Wow, to watch that again so many years later….goodness! Saw it the first time during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Just as sickening now as it was back then!
The version by Trump and his rioters is nauseating. They took a National Anthem about defending the Capitol against an attack by the British and turned it into a tune that praises an attack on the Capitol by Trump and his rioters who portray themselves as victims. 42% of the U.S. still having a favorable view of Trump is pathological. So is the fact that the GOP turned over its entire party to him. It calls into question the general mental health of the country and where it may be heading in the upcoming years.

People are captivated by a charismatic person like Trump, Koresh, or Jones. With big smiles, they will pose with someone who has no interest in their well-being and will take them into ruins. Trump in that photo-op could have been with two smiling farmers who lost their farms because of his trade wars. They're proud of it because Trump did it to them.

Trump supporters are horrified that their truth social stock is evaporating. Trump Supporters Horrified as the Value of Their "Truth Social" Stock Evaporates excerpt: "Analysts have been shouting from the rooftops that Trump's cash grab was nothing more than a "scam" and that investors should stay far away. Yet plenty of the former president's most diehard fans have yet to be dissuaded. "I know good and well it’s in Trump’s hands, and he’s got plans," 71-year-old Oklahoma City native Jerry McClain, who invested in the stock, told WaPo. "I have no doubt it’s going to explode sometime.""
Currently, Truth Social is an empty decorated Easter egg shell, like Trump. Money can be made short term on it by buying and selling at opportune times, but that's not investing . Some traders nearly doubled their money when they purchased at the opening price (near $37) when it first went on the market and sold it at the end of the first week (near $65). This week, more shares have been introduced into the market which has diluted the price, at least temporarily. It's possible to make a short term gain by buying shares now at the currently diluted price and selling later if and when a bump occur like it did during the first week of public trading.
To make his public Truth Social successful long-term, Trump would have to make it compete within the highly competitive social media market, like he tried to do with his casinos in the highly competitive casino industry where he incurred multiple bankruptcies with his public companies. Trump has a poor record with his businesses that were in the public domain. Most of his businesses have been private. It's not easy to hide issues in a public company. It requires quarterly reporting of various parameters that aren't required to report for a private company. Also, someone like Trump doesn't have nearly the ultimate control he likes to have in a public company that he enjoys in a private one.
During an interview, Trump blamed his casino bankruptcies on too much competition in the casino market.

Trump billionaire gala raises $50 million. During the 2016 campaign, Trump accused Hillary of making her campaign money for the billionaires while bragging that he (supposedly) financed his campaign with his own money. He portrayed himself as being an outsider not influenced by the big donors of the corporate world. Trump relied heavily on big-time donors in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. He's relying on it even more in 2024. Trump's campaign said it raised $50.5 million at a high-dollar Florida fundraiser
Four Years Out, Some Voters Look Back at Trump’s Presidency More Positively excerpt: "But other voters said that while they disapproved of Mr. Trump’s inflammatory style, they wondered whether they had placed too much emphasis on his personality in past elections. While 70 percent of participants said that Mr. Trump had at one point said something they found offensive, those statements were a distant memory for many. Nearly half of that group said he had not said anything offensive recently. Young voters were especially likely to say it had been a while since Mr. Trump said something they found offensive."
That's an about-face. Young people were the ones who seemed most repelled by Trump's bigoted remarks when he entered the presidential race in 2015. People have become numb to nine years of his caustic remarks.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/08/politics/trump-criminal-trial-nears-analysis/index.html excerpt: "During his barnstorming Republican primary campaign, Trump was effective in turning his four indictments to his advantage, wielding the idea that he was a victim of politicized justice to gather the GOP base around him and squeeze out his rivals. One of the biggest questions of this campaign will be whether the reality of a president on trial has a similar impact among a general electorate or whether it will spark a backlash against Trump, especially if he is found guilty."
