Trump to get intelligence briefings despite classified documents criminal trial

    excerpt:

"U.S. intelligence agencies plan to provide briefings to former President Donald Trump this year if he secures the Republican presidential nomination, even though he faces federal criminal charges that he mishandled classified information after he left office.

The intelligence community is likely to adhere to past practices for nominees and has no plan to cancel the briefings if Trump becomes the GOP nominee, two sources with knowledge of the matter said. Scrapping the briefings for Trump could open President Joe Biden up to accusations of politicizing access to intelligence, one of the sources said."

    Followup.

    Lambert was already indicted.

A bench warrant has been issued for Lambert.

    https://michiganadvance.com/2024/03...la-after-failing-to-comply-with-court-orders/

    excerpt:

"Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jeffery S. Matis issued a bench warrant for Attorney Stefanie Lambert Junttila, granting a request from the prosecution after she repeatedly failed to provide fingerprints and a DNA sample as required by law.

Lambert Junttila did not appear at the Thursday show cause hearing and will have 24 hours to turn herself in, with prosecutor Tim Maat requesting that the warrant not be executed until 5 p.m. Friday in line with a previous agreement he had made with Lambert Junttila, where she asked that Maat not send officers to her home to arrest her."

As expected, Trump has taken over the RNC.

RNC votes to install Donald Trump's handpicked chair as former president tightens control of party

    excerpt:

"HOUSTON (AP) — The Republican National Committee voted Friday to install Donald Trump’s handpicked leadership team, completing his takeover of the national party as the former president closes in on a third straight presidential nomination.

Michael Whatley, a North Carolina Republican who has echoed Trump’s false theories of voter fraud, was elected the party’s new national chairman in a vote Friday morning in Houston. Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, was voted in as co-chair.

Trump’s team is promising not to use the RNC to pay his mounting personal legal bills. But Trump and his lieutenants will have firm control of the party’s political and fundraising machinery with limited, if any, internal pushback.

“The RNC is going to be the vanguard of a movement that will work tirelessly every single day to elect our nominee, Donald J. Trump, as the 47th President of the United States,” Whatley told RNC members in a speech after being elected."

Trump keeps saying without evidence that the Presidential Records Act gives him the right to make government property his personal property.

Special counsel asks Judge Cannon to label Trump’s immunity claim in classified documents as ‘frivolous’ | CNN Politics

    excerpt:

"And while Trump’s attorneys have argued that as president, he could designate records as “personal” and lawfully keep them after leaving office, prosecutors said Thursday that, “Nothing in the PRA remotely suggests that the President can lawfully convert presidential records into personal ones simply by removing them from the White House at the end of his term.”

The PRA says the moment a president leaves office, the National Archives and Records Administration gets custody and control of all presidential records from their administration. Personal records are described in the PRA as things like personal notes, materials relating to private political associations or materials relating exclusively to the president’s own election to the White House."

Special counsel asks Judge Cannon to label Trump’s immunity claim in classified documents as ‘frivolous’ | CNN Politics

    excerpt:

"Special counsel Jack Smith is forcefully opposing former President Donald Trump’s sweeping claim of presidential immunity in the criminal case over his handling of classified documents, urging the judge to cut off Trump’s ability to appeal the issue in a way that would delay his trial.

The “immunity claim here is so wholly without merit that it is difficult to understand it except as part of a strategic effort for delay,” Smith’s office wrote in one of a host of legal filings Thursday afternoon."

Trump gained some leverage, at least temporarily, in his other criminal cases when the Supreme Court agreed to hear his absolute immunity claim after the federal district court rejected it unanimously and wrote a scathing response to Trump.

The Supreme Court's action gives the impression that Trump's immunity claim might have merit and further delays his cases because the parties involved want to see what happens with the SC ruling first before advancing.

He's using it to his advantage with Judge Cannon, who gave Trump a break in 2023 by issuing him a special master in the documents criminal case (which was overturned unanimously in a conservative federal appeals court with a scathing response to Cannon).

Out of options, Trump will pay $500M cash bond to appeal his NY fraud case, experts predict. Not paying will hurt even more.

    excerpt:

"One fiscal kick-in-the-gut down, one more to go for Donald Trump.

On Friday, Trump posted a bond in his E. Jean Carroll defamation case — it's backed by $93 million experts say he most likely pulled out of his own wallet in the form of ready or borrowed cash.

This small fortune will now sit in a bank, untouchable, until Trump exhausts his appeals and the ultimate winner takes all.

His next appeal bond will cost him far more.

The presumptive GOP presidential candidate still owes a $455 million fraud penalty to New York Attorney General Letitia James — a debt that comes due March 25, the same day as jury selection for his Manhattan hush-money trial."

Out of options, Trump will pay $500M cash bond to appeal his NY fraud case, experts predict. Not paying will hurt even more.

    excerpt:

"Once the money's parked, Trump's bank or banks would give the bond underwriter — Chubb or any other carrier — what's known as an "irrevocable letter of credit."

That's a guarantee from the bank saying Trump has the judgment money set aside with them, and he can't touch it until the appeal is decided. Whoever wins the appeal gets the cash.

"You want cash, you want an irrevocable letter of credit, you want anything but real estate," when underwriting bonds of this size, said Pedersen.

Because if Trump loses his appeal in the fraud case, he'll have only 10 days to turn the judgment over, in cash, to the state.

"How do you turn real estate into cash in just 10 days?" Pedersen said."

Trump has reached the point where the rubber meets the road for at least some of his situations. Bluster and delay are no longer options.

After producing $91 million for the Carroll case judgment this week, the next hurdle for him is to produce about a half-billion dollars for the NY civil fraud case judgment against him, which is due March 25, the same day his criminal trial starts in NY for the hush money case.

In the midst of all of this, Trump has taken control of the RNC by installing a political crony and stolen-election promoter, Whatley, as chairman and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair.

The GOP should have ejected him from the party after the riot on Jan. 6. Instead, Graham and McCarthy visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago a couple weeks after the riot to console him and renew their loyalty to him.

The remnant of Congressional authority against Trump, McConnell, endorsed him this week.

GOP member and frequent critic of Trump, Sununu, endorsed Trump this week after previously endorsing Haley.

Why it will be tough for Biden to defeat Trump

    excerpt:

"The 2024 presidential general election is here, for all intents and purposes. Joe Biden and Donald Trump are set to face off in the first presidential rematch since 1956. It’s also the first rematch between a current and a former president since 1892.

But unlike in 2020 when he was favored over Trump for the entirety of the campaign, Biden faces a rougher road this time around. Indeed, he has no better than a 50-50 shot for reelection, and fans of the current president should be aware that Trump has a real chance at retaking the White House."
