It's never known if Trump will follow through on his words. Had he been able to delay the second Carroll trial by a week, he might not have shown up in court anyway.

He pulled such a stunt when he was in Europe at his golf course and said he was trying to make it back to NY just in time before the first Carroll trial ended so that he could bravely face his accuser. He never attended, even after the judge, upon hearing his statement in the news, graciously extended the trial an extra week to give him a chance to attend.

To try to protect his immunity claim, Trump's stance has shifted again to saying that the 2020 election was long over and he was simply executing his duties as president to make sure the 2020 election was fair.

Trump’s latest about-face: He now says 2020 election was ‘long over’

    excerpt:

"As he seeks to derail special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal charges, Trump’s strategy suggests he believes his immunity argument can only succeed if courts agree that his efforts — which included leaning on government officials and spreading false claims of fraud — were official presidential responsibilities rather than political self-interest. That’s why Trump now claims he was merely investigating election integrity as president in December 2020, not trying to seize a second term."

In a similar vain, Meadows is still trying to wiggle out of his criminal charges in GA by trying to have his case moved to federal court. The attempts have failed. He's currently trying it again by requesting that a full-panel appeals court hear is claim.

Meadows hopes that moving it to a federal court would offer him protection by being able to cite executive privilege when he was Trump's chief of staff.

Moving the case to federal court would effectively cheat the state of GA out of its rights to hold him accountable for alleged violations of state laws. It would also give Meadows the opportunity to be pardoned for federal crimes by Trump or another GOP president.

GA doesn't have a simple pardon system where the governor can simply pardon a person with a wave of his hand. The GOP in GA have been trying to change this to rescue Trump but governor Kemp says he won't oblige.

PA senate member Mastriano admitted to a crime when he acknowledged he was on restricted Capitol property without permission and following police lines as they retreated as a result of his presence and others in the mob who were encroaching on them.

He called internet sleuths disingenuous for stating the fact that he committed a crime.

Mastriano was endorsed by Trump for governor of PA in 2022 and lost to Shapiro.

He's still a member of the PA state senate.

    excerpt:

“Even disingenuous internet sleuths know that police lines did shift throughout the course of the day. I followed those lines as they existed,” Mastriano said.

Don will fix that by lining up another tax break for the 1% that you and your grandkids can finance.

But none of them can pinpoint what was better then....I mean besides being a controversy over twitter all day...if they could simply say what was quantitatively better, I could comprehend the following.

Most Iowa Republican caucus-goers say Trump fit to be president if convicted

    excerpt:

Following are highlights from the Edison Research poll based on interviews with 1,628 Iowa Republicans.

    * 65% said they decided who to support in the presidential nomination contest before this month.

    * 65% said Trump would still be fit to be president if he were convicted of a crime. 31% said he would be unfit if convicted.

    * 61% said they favor a federal law that would ban abortions nationwide.

    * 53% of white caucus-goers who considered themselves evangelical or born-again Christians supported Trump, while 27% backed DeSantis.

Trump vows to boot MILLIONS out of the US after romping to victory in Iowa

    excerpt:

"Trump made hefty promises for his planned deportation programme, saying the country will not have seen the like since Dwight Eisenhower’s presidency.

As many as 1.3 million people were deported during ‘Operation Wetback’, something Trump said he is hoping to emulate.

“We’re going to have a deportation level that we haven’t seen in this country for a long time”, he said."

Reactionary centrism: The toxic force that could elect Trump — and kill off democracy

    excerpt:

"One serious challenge to Biden that could help Trump win is the potential promotion of a “moderate” third-party alternative. The most obvious threat is No Labels, a donor-driven group that pretends to represent "the commonsense majority," basically meaning the broadly unpopular combo of modestly liberal social views and staunch economic conservatism. The No Labels sales pitch is all about image: It claims “independence” from both parties, portraying them as equally insular, intransigent and extreme, and claims that No Labels will give voters “a choice,” even though voters will play no role in choosing the group’s potential presidential ticket, which could feature program-killer Joe Manchin and will have no chance of winning the election. To be blunt, it’s a reactionary centrist’s wet dream — and it would only need to draw off a small percentage of voters in a few key states to hand the election to Trump."

Trump wins historic landslide in Iowa caucuses as DeSantis edges Haley for second

    excerpt:

"Despite lower-than-usual turnout due to weather, an estimated 120,000 Iowans still braved snowy, subzero conditions to caucus — and the lion’s share caucused for a figure who faces four criminal trials on 91 felony charges ranging from election interference to hoarding classified documents.

Why? According to the AP's VoteCast survey, a full three-quarters of Iowa caucus-goers said the charges against Trump are political attempts to undermine him rather than legitimate attempts to investigate alleged crimes.

Nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents to the National Election Pool entrance poll said that Trump would still be fit to serve as president if convicted of a crime — double the number who said the opposite (32%). And among white evangelicals, Trump’s support — just 22% in 2016 — soared to 53% this time around."

Vivek Ramaswamy, Wealthy Political Novice Who Aligned With Trump, Quits Campaign

    excerpt:

"That would mean immediately eliminating the Department of Education, F.B.I. and Internal Revenue Service by executive order, cutting the federal work force by 75 percent in a mass layoff, without Congress’s approval, and pulling back America’s foreign military commitments, first in Ukraine but also eventually in Israel and Taiwan.

His isolationist foreign policy gave rivals a ripe target to attack him on, but his bleak vision of millennial and Generation Z voters “starved for purpose, meaning and identity,” with a black hole in their hearts had surprising resonance with older voters."

    Ramaswamy drops out of race.

Vivek Ramaswamy, Wealthy Political Novice Who Aligned With Trump, Quits Campaign

    excerpt:

"By then, the Harvard-educated Mr. Ramaswamy had embraced increasingly apocalyptic conspiracy theories; spoke of a “system” that would block Mr. Trump from office and install a “puppet,” Nikki Haley; called the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol an “inside job” orchestrated by federal law enforcement; and begun trafficking in the racist theory of “replacement” that holds falsely that Democrats are importing immigrants of color to supplant white people.

The theory, which has fueled white supremacist rampages in Buffalo, N.Y., Pittsburgh and El Paso, Texas, “is not some grand right-wing conspiracy theory,” he said in one Republican primary debate, “but a basic statement of the Democratic Party’s platform.”"

They want to go back to the good old days of the Trump administration when he was promising them the good old days that he didn't deliver (a better life for farmers and coal miners, big beautiful inexpensive healthcare for everyone, etc).
