    E. Jean Carroll seeks to prevent another Trump 'circus' in defamation damages trial

    excerpt:

"Lawyers for Carroll pointed to Trump's remarks in a Friday court filing. Judge Arthur Engoron had initially said Trump wouldn't be allowed to speak at the closing arguments unless he agreed to stick to the facts and the law of the case.

However, when a Trump lawyer asked at the actual proceedings, Engoron entertained the possibility, while still trying to impose the same conditions. Without agreeing, the former president began a tirade, accusing New York Attorney General Letitia James of being an election-interfering Trump hater, and accusing the judge of having his "own agenda.""

And Roger Stone. My goodness. Complete anarchy, mayhem, chaos and anything else that’s NOT GOOD, is sure to happen. I’m truly hoping and praying that this doesn’t happen- that it doesn’t come to fruition. This would be worse than any horror movie coming to life!!

Cannon's decision potentially gives Trump a couple extra months worth of delay in the trial.

Trump could pull another delay tactic by claiming his attorneys gave him bad information just before the documents trial is to begin. It would require another round of discovery that in itself could delay the trial a couple months, in addition to the two-month wait Cannon is giving Trump to disclose whether he would use such a tactic.

Trump looks like he just woke up and was whisked to the Iowa event.

He will go out in weather like that if it's for his own benefit. but when he was president he declined to visit a cemetery in France with buried American troops because it was raining.

In contrast to his rants about other judges, Trump doesn't appear to have made any public complaints about Judge Cannon.

Judge Cannon hands Donald Trump much-needed delay in blow to Jack Smith

    excerpt:

"In the Mar-a-Lago case, Judge Cannon has just refused to enforce a routine deadline & it's entirely clear she has no intention of letting this case go to trial before the election or possibly ever," Vance posted on X.

Others also criticized Cannon for not helping Trump's case move forward towards its scheduled deadline.

"His luck in drawing Cannon for this open-and-shut case cannot be overstated," posted the Scary Lawyer Guy social-media account. "While [Judge Tanya] Chutkan *may* be able to get his other trial in before November, a more experienced (+ less biased) judge would have had the MAL [Mar-aLago] case on the calendar months ago. Instead, she's slow walking things."

The mystery of how Trump ended up with Judge Cannon for the documents case.

    Article from Octber 2022.

The Incredible Mystery of How Trump Got Judge Cannon

    excerpt:

"When Donald Trump’s legal team filed their court paperwork protesting the Mar-a-Lago raid, a lawyer took the rare step of actually filing the paperwork in person. At a courthouse 44 miles from Mar-a-Lago. And they got a judge to oversee the case that was outside both West Palm Beach—where the raid took place—and the district where they filed.

Those incredible coincidences have led lawyers and legal experts to suggest that something may not be above board with how Trump’s team filed their lawsuit, which serendipitously ended up in the MAGA-friendly hands of Judge Aileen Cannon.

For one, Trump’s team blamed a “technical issue” with the court’s computer system. But The Daily Beast has discovered that the system was working just fine for dozens of other lawyers making hundreds of filings that day.

For another, lawyers typically file lawsuits at the district where an issue took place. Trump’s lawyers filed at a courthouse in a neighboring division."

The Incredible Mystery of How Trump Got Judge Cannon

    excerpt:

"Questions continue to swirl over how exactly Trump managed to get Cannon, who has shocked legal scholars by issuing mind-boggling orders that always favor Trump. She has temporarily halted the FBI investigation, appointed a “special master” to slow down the probe, and kept the case far from its natural home in Washington, D.C.

“It was basically a home run to get her,” said Loyola Law School professor Jessica Levinson. “They clearly made the correct calculation, because Judge Cannon’s rulings legally don’t make sense. They only make sense if you’re trying to help the former president.”"
