The Supreme Court Helped Trump’s Delay Strategy. By How Much Remains to Be Seen.

In a last-minute attempt, Trump is asking a federal appeals court for a 90-day delay in the Carroll trial that is scheduled for January 2024 so that he can ponder modes to further delay it, including possibility taking it to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump's team is using last week's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to reject Jack Smith's request for it to fast-track Trump's immunity claim in the federal election subversion criminal case to support his attempt to further delay the Carroll trial.

Trump's team is saying that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of him to let his presidential immunity claim work its way fully through the appeals court system; therefore, the same type of consideration should apply to him for the Carroll civil fraud case.

Jack Smith has been anticipating Trump using another delay tactic in the federal criminal election subversion case.

Smith wants Trump's legal team to declare now whether it intends to blame Trump's attorneys for his alleged criminal behavior in the election subversion case. Smith is anticipating Trump will pull this stunt right before the scheduled March 2024 trial.

The criminal trial will likely be delayed due to the Supreme Court last week rejecting Smith's request to fast-track Trump's immunity claim which will probably go through the full appeals process.

It could be delayed once again for months if Trump tries to blame his attorneys for his conduct just before the trial is set to begin. That would require both sides to re-evaluate the case in a different context which could take months for the extra discovery process related to exchanges between Trump and his attorneys in 2020 as they planned to thwart Biden's win.

His incessant use of social media makes it easy for adversaries and everyone else to know when the situation is out of the ordinary.

As much as Trump's staff like to praise the visit to Iraq, he snubbed American troops a month later by canceling the military flight that a bipartisan Congressional delegation was to use to visit troops in Afghanistan.

The flight was canceled last-minute by Trump as the delegation was on its way to the aircraft because he was upset that Pelosi indicated she wouldn't permit the State of the Union address to take place while Trump's government shutdown, to try to coerce Congress into giving him taxpayer money for his border wall, was still in progress.

Trump was consistent at snubbing American troops. It was part of why his approval rating with them gradually dropped from an initial 55% to about 45% by the end of his term and contributed to his loss of the 2020 election that he claims was stolen from him.
