The judge shouldn’t have granted a special master, and trump doesn’t have executive privilege which is why this case will head to the Court of Appeals. The DOJ is filing the brief as we speak
I have several relatives - all but one Republicans, and only a couple of whom I would call conservative - who are all die-hard Trump supporters. Most of them I thought were sane, rational people...until Trump ran for President. One of the conservative ones is constantly spouting off the usual MAGA/die-hards bs. Even said the "Trump has done more than any President of the past 20 years" crap straight to my face. I just let it slide rather than countering with "Yes, Trump has done more to fuck up things than any President of the past 20 years", which is what I wanted to say. And the relative who isn't a Republican? I'm convinced she's batshit insane. My belief - because its the only plausible explanation I have other than mass stupidity/insanity - is that at some point in the past (70s or 80s), Trump made a deal with the Devil, and the bill hasn't come due yet. Forget John Gotti; Trump is the real "Teflon Don", it seems.
It seems like a thin argument that a former president, currently under a criminal investigation by the DOJ, is claiming executive privilege against the executive branch itself (to which he no longer belongs) to thwart the DOJ (which is part of the executive branch) from continuing its investigation and justifying that claim by saying that the former president's reputation is at stake.

Sen Ron Johnson is trailing in the polls so now all of a sudden he's the great savior of Social Security when it's become clear he wants to end it Sen. Ron Johnson Tries To Squirm Out Of Threats He Made To Social Security Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson has angrily denied that he ever threatened the Social Security program — even though he has. Johnson, a devoted Trump ally who is trailing in the polls in the upcoming midterms, last month proposed that funding for Social Security (and Medicare) be decided year by year as part of “discretionary” spending programs. That would subject funding to a potentially fierce partisan political battle annually, jeopardizing a predictable income for some 69 million Americans — most of whom have paid into the program their entire working lives. Johnson insisted Sunday on “Fox & Friends” that claims he’s out to gut Social Security are a “lie.” “All the Democrats can do is lie about me,” said the testy senator. “The most outrageous lie they’re telling about me right now is that I want to cut or end Social Security ... what elected official would ever want to cut Social Security? It is absurd on its face. I want to save Social Security.”
He’s not too bright. There are millions of MAGA heads that rely on it- and you better believe that GOP congressmen and senators will be standing in line for THEIR goddamn checks!!!
They have the mistaken idea that it will be "those other people's" social security that will be going away, but not their's.
The privilege issue Trump has raised over the secret documents will have to go through the court system like it did with Nixon against the Watergate investigation and Trump against the Jan. 6th investigation. Both Nixon and Trump lost those battles all the way through the Supreme Court. Trump made a mess by interleaving personal property with top secret government documents that he shouldn't have had in the first place. The special master issue will work to his advantage in the upcoming weeks and perhaps months in his effort to try to stymie the DOJ investigation until the 2024 election season.
Trying to end social security in a state with a large elderly population who rely on it as their primary means of income isn’t going to get you re-elected.
Newly obtained surveillance video shows fake Trump elector escorted operatives into Georgia county's elections office before voting machine breach | CNN Politics image:
Some of the sympathetic individuals were sheriffs and other people who had guns and body armor to intimidate local election workers and dupe them into letting them have unauthorized access to voting equipment.
Election officials all over the country now have to be on guard against being duped by nefarious actors operating on behalf of Trump.
