GOP commission refuses to certify New Mexico primary results over distrust of voting machines

    excerpt:

"SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Votes in a New Mexico community are at risk of not counting after a Republican-led commission refused to approve primary election results over distrust of Dominion vote-tallying machines.

Democratic Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver on Tuesday asked the state Supreme Court to order the three-member Otero County commission to certify June 7 primary election results to ensure voters are not disenfranchised and that political candidates have access to the general election ballot in November.

On Monday, the commission in its role as a county canvassing board voted unanimously against certifying the results of the primary without raising specific concerns about discrepancies, over the objection of the county clerk.

“I have huge concerns with these voting machines,” said Otero County Commissioner Vickie Marquardt on Monday. “When I certify stuff that I don’t know is right, I feel like I’m being dishonest because in my heart I don’t know if it is right.”"

Rice, who voted to impeach Trump, is ousted.

Tom Rice: South Carolina ousts Republican who voted to impeach Trump

    excerpt:

"A Republican congressman has lost his bid to cling on to his seat, after a furious backlash to his vote to impeach former US President Donald Trump.

Tom Rice, a five-term South Carolina incumbent, was beaten in a primary election by Trump-backed challenger Russell Fry, a state legislator.

But another Republican in the state who had criticised Mr Trump, Nancy Mace, comfortably won her vote.

Ms Mace had later visited Trump Tower in a show of loyalty.

Congressional votes were held on Tuesday in Maine, Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina and Texas.

Mr Rice had been a reliable supporter of Mr Trump until the US Capitol riot on 6 January 2021, when he became one of 10 Republicans who sided with Democrats days later to impeach the outgoing president for inciting insurrection."

There was talk last year of people failing to remove the check mark in recurring payments, then mysteriously getting locked out of their accounts,.

Some simply forgot their passwords, while others were mysteriously locked out of their account. Each month their credit card was billed until they called to cancel any further donations.

A GOP congressman who voted to impeach Trump was trashed in his primary race by a Trump-endorsed 'pro-Life, pro-God, pro-Gun' candidate

    excerpt:

"In his endorsement of Fry in February, Trump called Rice a "coward who abandoned his constituents by caving to Nancy Pelosi and the Radical Left" while lauding Fry as a "leading fighter on Election Integrity." Trump also described Fry as being "pro-Life, pro-God, pro-Gun, and very importantly, pro LOW Taxes."

Trump rejoiced on Truth Social at Rice's loss, writing that Fry's win over "Impeach mater Tom Rice" was the "biggest News of the evening."

In January, Rice joined nine Republican colleagues in voting to impeach Trump over the Capitol riot. Following the vote, Rice received death threats during his campaign, per Politico. His wife, Wrenzie Rice, told the outlet that she no longer felt safe living in South Carolina, where her husband has served for five terms."

Trump takes down his first impeachment victim: 5 takeaways from a big primary night

    excerpt:

"House Republicans made huge inroads in their effort to turn South Texas red, capturing a heavily Latino — and historically Democratic — district on Tuesday night. Republican Mayra Flores will become the first Republican to represent her South Texas district in modern history.

Democrats’ nightmare here is twofold. They have lost a crucial seat in their razor-thin House majority, putting the squeeze on their ability to pass legislation for the rest of the year. But Republicans have also gained crucial momentum in a region they are targeting seriously in the fall. South Texas took a hard swing to the right in 2020, buoyed by Trump’s popularity in the region. This race demonstrates that that was not a fluke. Even though Biden carried this district by 4 points in 2020, Flores has built a comfortable edge over Democrat Dan Sanchez."

WA donors gave $2.7M to Trump ‘defense fund’ that didn’t exist

    excerpt:

"The part about the Donald Trump era that I’ll never understand is the ease with which he separates his own supporters from their money. And is enabled by fellow Republicans who know better.

These are everyday supporters — like the Woodinville babysitter who responded to Trump’s appeals for an “Official Election Defense Fund” in the charged weeks after the 2020 vote by sending twelve separate donations totaling $522.

Or the cashier in Renton who gave $287. The school bus driver from Kitsap County who donated $300, the custodian in Port Orchard who gave $85 or the Costco clerk in Everett who plunked down a hefty $860.

These contributors are just a few on the 45,000-long list of Washington state residents who responded to Trump’s calls. They gave more than $2.7 million from our state, between Nov. 3, 2020 and Dec. 31, 2020, according to Federal Election Commission records."

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...office-confrontation-three-days-before-jan-6/

    excerpt:

"Donoghue urged Trump not to put Clark in charge, calling him “not competent” and warning of “mass resignations” by Justice Department officials if he became the nation’s top law enforcement official, according to Donoghue’s account.

“What happens if, within 48 hours, we have hundreds of resignations from your Justice Department because of your actions?” Donoghue said he asked Trump. “What does that say about your leadership?”

Clark’s letter and his Oval Office meeting set off one of the tensest chapters during Trump’s effort to overturn the election, which culminated three days later with rioters storming the U.S. Capitol. His plan could have decapitated the Justice Department leadership and could have overturned the election."

Poll: Half of Americans now predict U.S. may 'cease to be a democracy' someday

    excerpt:

"A new Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows that most Democrats (55%) and Republicans (53%) now believe it is “likely” that America will “cease to be a democracy in the future” — a stunning expression of bipartisan despair about the direction of the country.

Half of all Americans (49%) express the same sentiment when independents and those who do not declare any political affiliation are factored in, while just a quarter (25%) consider the end of U.S. democracy unlikely and another quarter (25%) say they’re unsure.

At the same time, however, a large number of Americans seem indifferent to the high-profile hearings by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol — an effort to get to the bottom of one of the most dramatic assaults on the democratic process in U.S. history.

In fact, the new survey of 1,541 U.S. adults — which was conducted from June 10 (the day after the committee’s first hearing) to June 13 (the day of its second) — found that fewer than 1 in 4 (24%) say they watched last Thursday’s initial primetime broadcast live. Only slightly more (27%) say they caught news coverage later. Nearly half (49%) say they did not follow the hearings at all."

Poll: Half of Americans now predict U.S. may 'cease to be a democracy' someday

    excerpt:

"In part as a result, less than half of Americans (45%) say they believe the Democrat-led committee’s central claim: that the Jan. 6 attack “was part of a conspiracy to overturn the election.” The rest either say it was not (35%) or that they’re unsure (20%).

Likewise, just 37% of Americans believe there was a conspiracy and that “Donald Trump was at the center of [it]” — the committee’s other major argument.

Again, partisan affiliation defines these views: 84% of Biden voters and 77% of Democrats believe the attack was part of a conspiracy to overturn the election; 71% of Trump voters and 59% of Republicans believe the attack was not part of such a conspiracy. Independents are evenly split — 39% yes versus 41% no — on the question."
