Could you even imagine if a Democrat got up there, hammered, like these two doofs?

S.C. Republicans showcase different routes to survival in Trump era: The Note

    excerpt:

"10. That's the number of key races to watch in Nevada, South Carolina and Texas on Tuesday during primary night (we're not expecting any close races in Maine or North Dakota). And as FiveThirtyEight's Nathaniel Rakich and Alex Samuels write, Tuesday will once again be a test for Trump, especially in South Carolina given the two non-incumbent challengers he has backed. Nevada, though, will likely be the most important state of the evening as who advances in the Republican primary for both the Senate and governorship could have big ramifications come November. Three of Nevada's House races should be competitive, too. Read more from Nathaniel and Alex on the key races to watch on Tuesday -- including Texas's special election for a House seat! -- and be sure to follow along at FiveThirtyEight's live blog."

Primaries in Nevada and South Carolina highlight Tuesday's races to watch

    excerpt:

"Nevada is another swing state where Republican candidates who've repeated baseless claims about the 2020 election are now running to oversee elections.

The most notable candidate in the GOP field is Jim Marchant, a former member of the state Assembly who's said the 2020 election was stolen from him (in a congressional race) and Trump. He's also pushed for doing away with voting machines, returning to hand-counting ballots — something election experts say is a bad idea."

Sean Hannity is still claiming Trump ordered 20,000 national guard troops and Pelosi rejected it.

PolitiFact - No evidence Pelosi ‘rejected’ Trump’s authorization for ‘20,000 National Guard’ before Jan. 6 attack

    excerpt:

"No congressional official, or body, has the authority to activate the National Guard to the U.S. Capitol. Only the president," added Jane. L Campbell, president and CEO of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society. "If the president calls the National Guard to the U.S. Capitol, no congressional official has the authority to decline its service."

In fact, about 20 minutes before Hannity went on air, the House committee noted that then-Vice President Mike Pence had called for the National Guard on Jan. 6 — not Trump.

Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Trump made a video statement the day after his insurrection contending that he activated the national guard on the day of the riot at the Capitol. There doesn't appear to be any record supporting that claim.

Pence made requests for the national guard during the riot while standing for hours on a cold floor in the basement area of the Capitol while Trump did nothing to stop the riot.

Members of Congress in the midst of the riot were also trying to have the Pentagon give permission to deploy the national guard.

Fact Check: Did Trump call in the National Guard after rioters stormed the Capitol?

    excerpt:

"Numerous reports and statements from defense officials show Trump was not involved in the deployment of the D.C. National Guard to quell the riot at the Capitol.

Acting Defense Secretary Miller used vague instructions that Trump have given days before the riot to "take any necessary steps to support civilian law enforcement requests in securing the Capitol and federal buildings."

Reports show Trump initially was hesitant to get the DCNG involved, forcing officials to look to Pence for White House support.

The deployment of the National Guard was not "immediate." It took multiple requests for troops from D.C. and out-of-state law enforcement to gain authorization from federal defense officials to assist at the Capitol."

Ginni Thomas associates stunned she has been ‘sucked into a cult again’ after 'deprogramming'

    excerpt:

"Revelations that Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, has been one of the biggest and most influential proponents of Donald Trump's election theft conspiracies has stunned some of her former associates who remember her work opposing cults in the 1980's.

Thomas has been under increasing scrutiny over texts she sent to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows imploring him to listen to fringe lawyers pushing legal strategies that would have allowed the former president to remain in the Oval Office. Then, last week, it was reported that she had been emailing GOP lawmakers in Arizona to "Stand strong in the face of political and media pressure,” and overturn Joe Biden's win in their state.

According to Smith and Seitz-Wald, people who knew Thomas back then are appalled by seeing her go down the election fraud conspiracy rabbit hole."

Trump's baseless claim about 'Indian people getting paid to vote' appears to have originated with Peter Navarro aide

A former Justice Department official raised eyebrows when he testified that Donald Trump complained that Native Americans were paid to vote against him, but the claim appears to have originated with a White House staffer.

Richard Donoghue, who served as Trump's acting deputy attorney general in December 2020 and January 2021, told the House select committee the former president claimed voter fraud had deprived him of re-election, and many observers were surprised by some of the baseless allegations

Melissa Carone was running for a MI state house seat in the 2022 primary. She was disqualified.

The MI Macomb County Republican Party endorsed her.

A Michigan election denier who was parodied by ‘S.N.L.’ is disqualified as a candidate.

    excerpt:

"The office said that Ms. Carone, along with 10 other legislative candidates, had made false statements on an affidavit that candidates were required to submit to election administrators. On one of the forms that was signed by Ms. Carone, she had attested that she did not have any unpaid fines for election law violations and that all of her public campaign filings were up-to-date. The county clerk where Ms. Carone was running for office said on Wednesday that had not been the case.

It was the second time in recent months that Ms. Carone had been disqualified as a candidate: The Macomb County Clerk & Register of Deeds barred her in March from the Aug. 2 primary for state representative.

When she signed the affidavit, Ms. Carone had owed at least $125 in late fees for missing the deadline twice for quarterly campaign filings in 2021, according to a letter from the clerk that was obtained by The New York Times. She had also failed to file an annual statement for 2022 for her campaign and an amendment to a quarterly report last October, the letter said."

Trump made a last-ditch effort by appealing to the NY supreme court and lost.

NY high court nixes Trump appeal, clearing way for testimony

    excerpt:

"New York’s highest court rejected former President Donald Trump’s last-ditch effort to avoid testifying in the state attorney general’s civil investigation into his business practices on Tuesday, clearing the way for his deposition next month.

The state’s Court of Appeals said there was no “substantial constitutional question” that would warrant its intervention in the matter following an intermediate appellate court’s ruling last month enforcing a subpoena for Trump’s testimony.

The court also dismissed a motion by Trump’s lawyers to stay the subpoenas, saying that doing so would be “academic,” since it wasn’t taking up the former president’s appeal in the first place.

Trump and his two eldest children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., agreed last week to answer questions under oath starting July 15 unless the Court of Appeals decided to step in."

January 6 committee teases next hearing with video of Trump lawyer warning John Eastman - CNNPolitics

    excerpt:

"Thursday’s hearing is expected to focus on the pressure campaign applied to former Vice President Mike Pence to stand in the way of the certification of the election. Eastman was the architect of the plan, and the committee plans to show that he pushed it to former President Donald Trump despite the insistence from his top lawyers that it was not sound legal advice.

“He started to ask me about something dealing with Georgia and preserving something, potentially, for appeal,” Herschmann says in the video. “And I said to him, ‘Are you out of your effing mind? Because I only want to hear two words coming out of your mouth for now on: orderly transition.’ I said ‘I don’t want to hear any other effing words coming out of your mouth no matter what, other than ‘orderly transition.’ Repeat those words to me.”

He then goes on to warn Eastman that his actions could potentially be against the law.

“Eventually he said ‘orderly transition.’ I said, ‘Good John. Now I’m gonna give you the best free legal advice you’re ever getting in your life. Get a great effing criminal defense lawyer. You’re gonna need it.’ And I hung up on him.""
