DeSantis beats Trump in conservative group straw poll for 2024 nomination

"The former congressman, favorite to win a second term as governor in November, has played down the speculation but has been fundraising in a number of other states, most recently South Carolina.

“There are other candidates and politicians that people like ideologically here, but none have the excitement that DeSantis does,” Republican activist Wesley Donehue told Politico. “DeSantis has almost transcended politics to become a celebrity.”

Critics, however, have accused him of focusing on “nonexistent issues” at the expense of problems facing his state.

The Colorado poll almost exactly mirrors last year’s result, when DeSantis beat Trump 74%-71%. This year’s distant third place choice, Cruz, drew only 28%.

And DeSantis also won a May straw poll of Wisconsin Republicans with 38% to Trump’s 32%. No other candidate reached double figures in that poll."

 

That's the playbook of many in the GOP.

Be the biggest jackass celebrity possible, even at the cost of damaging your own state by billions of dollars by trying to stick it to groups you don't like.

Gov. Abbott's useless, extended border inspection is an example.

 

Trump has shown that money doesn't buy genuine respect.

It's a black hole in him that will never be filled.

 

Maybe the sane people will now leave that insane club.

A candidate for the GOP nomination for governor of Georgia refused to concede defeat even though she received only 3.4% of the vote on Tuesday.

Kandiss Taylor, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, came third in the race.

She received significantly fewer votes than David Perdue, who had Trump's formal endorsement, and incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, who won by 73.7% and secured the nomination.

After the results were clear, Taylor complained that the election was "rigged" against her, The Daily Beast reported."

An accused U.S. Capitol rioter left her children at home to take part in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

As flagged by CBS News' Scott MacFarlane, federal prosecutors allege that accused MAGA rioter Rachel Powell shared custody of six minor children with her ex-husband but left them unattended while she traveled from her home in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, to take part in efforts to overturn Donald Trump's election loss, which she believed might trigger a civil war.

"I agree with the possibility of civil war happening," Powell posted on social media in October 2020, according to prosecutors. "I can see that too. Unfortunately, the only way this is probably capable of being fixed is bloodshed because I’m not so sure our government can be fixed the political way anymore."

Powell also posted on social media in 2020 about "surveillance of a public official’s home & questioned how to confirm, without entering a courthouse to seek records, that she had the official’s correct address," according to a new court filing.

"(AP) - The former top leader of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group and other members have been charged with seditious conspiracy for what federal prosecutors say was a coordinated attack on the U.S. Capitol to stop Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory, authorities said Monday.

Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the former Proud Boys chairman, and four others linked to the group are charged in the latest indictment against them. All five were previously charged with different conspiracy counts.

Tarrio, the group’s top leader, wasn’t in Washington, D.C., when the riot erupted on Jan. 6, 2021. Police arrested Tarrio in Washington two days before the riot and charged him with vandalizing a Black Lives Matter banner at a historic Black church during a protest in December 2020. Tarrio was released from jail on Jan. 14 after serving his five-month sentence for that case.

The new riot-related indictments against Proud Boys members are among the most serious filed so far, but they aren’t the first of their kind.

Eleven members or associates of the anti-government Oath Keepers militia group, including its founder and leader Stewart Rhodes, were indicted in January on seditious conspiracy charges in the Capitol attack.

More than three dozen people charged in the Capitol siege have been identified by federal authorities as Proud Boys leaders, members or associates."

It’s also a question that Hope would like answered.

“I have no idea why he made the request and why that precinct,” Hope told the Michigan Advance, “especially nearly 19 months since the November 2020 election has passed. My only guess can be that he wants to conduct another audit, in addition to the hundreds of audits that were conducted statewide. Those audits showed that the Election Day results were accurate.”

Hope, who is married to state Rep. Kara Hope (D-Delhi Twp.), says that in his 24 years of experience as a municipal clerk, he knows that voting tabulators are more accurate than whatever process Berman plans.

“Hand counts by humans are more likely to result in errors,” said Evan Hope. “Especially by people who don’t know the rules of counting votes. I would question if he knows how to correctly count overvotes, overvotes caused by invalid write-ins, or ambiguous marks. I’d guess he knows very little about that or how elections work at all. I don’t think someone who knows how elections work would be making this request. But, I’ll admit I’m making an assumption, because he did not tell me what his ‘mini-investigation’ is about. Nor did he ask me any election related questions.”"
