Capitol rioter pleads guilty. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article261839785.html excerpt: "Over the last month, U.S. Capitol riot defendant Matthew Wood had mounted a particularly vigorous defense. In a series of rapid-fire court filings, the 25-year-old Greensboro-area man, who is charged with six crimes tied to the violence of Jan. 6, 2021, had asked a judge to: ▪ Move his trial moved out of Washington, arguing that he could not get a fair hearing from a D.C. jury; ▪ Suppress some comments he made to the FBI as well as the information agents scraped from his cell phone; ▪ Throw out all or some of the charges. On Friday, however, Wood dramatically changed course. He pleaded guilty to all counts listed on his indictment, including a felony — obstruction of an official proceeding — that carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison."
Another alibi: Climbing into the Capitol through a smashed window to avoid being trampled by rioters. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article261839785.html excerpt:: He later falsely claimed to the FBI that he entered the building only to avoid being trampled. The filing by his attorney states otherwise: “When (Wood) entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, he did so with the intent to disrupt the certification proceedings.”
Trump's lawsuit against Letitia James is dismissed. Trump’s Federal Suit Against New York A.G. Is Dismissed excerpt: "In the latest legal blow to Donald J. Trump, a federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit the former president filed that sought to halt the New York attorney general’s civil investigation into his business practices. The ruling, in federal court in Albany, was Mr. Trump’s second defeat related to the investigation in two days. On Thursday, an appellate court ordered Mr. Trump and two of his children to sit for questioning under oath from the office of the state attorney general, Letitia James. Together, the rulings clear the way for Ms. James to complete her investigation in the coming weeks or months. While Ms. James, a Democrat seeking re-election, does not have the authority to seek criminal charges against Mr. Trump or his family’s real estate business, she can file a lawsuit if she concludes that they committed fraud. Last month, one of her lawyers indicated that a suit could be coming soon, saying that the office was preparing an “enforcement action” in the near future."
Trump’s Federal Suit Against New York A.G. Is Dismissed excerpt: "Lawyers for Mr. Trump filed the federal lawsuit in December, arguing that Ms. James’s public criticism of Mr. Trump, and the subpoenas she had issued him and his company, violated several of his constitutional rights, including those to free speech and due process. In the ruling on Friday, Brenda K. Sannes, the federal judge, rejected Mr. Trump’s claim that Ms. James’s investigation was politically motivated and that she had violated his rights. Mr. Trump’s suit had cited a litany of Ms. James’s public statements criticizing Mr. Trump, including a 2017 tweet declaring that she was “leading the resistance against Donald Trump in NYC.” While Ms. James’s public statements could reflect political or personal animus toward Mr. Trump, the judge said, her comments were not enough to prove that the attorney general had infringed upon Mr. Trump’s rights."
Nazi sympathizer and Trump rioter convicted. Timothy Hale-Cusanelli: Alleged Nazi sympathizer convicted for role in January 6 US Capitol riot - CNNPolitics excerpt: "A January 6 rioter and alleged White supremacist was convicted Friday on all five charges he faced after hitching his case to the claim that he didn’t know Congress met at the United States Capitol. “I thought there were several buildings called ‘Capitol building,’” Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, an alleged Nazi sympathizer and Army reservist, told the jury Thursday, adding that he was “from New Jersey” and was “idiotic” and ignorant. “I did not realize that Congress met in the Capitol.” Several jurors rolled their eyes during this explanation and Hale-Cusanelli later said he was knowledgeable regarding the workings of the Electoral College process and American politics generally, which he took classes on in college. Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during the American Freedom Tour at the Austin Convention Center on May 14, 2022 in Austin, Texas. The national event gathered conservatives from around the country to defend, empower and help promote conservative agendas nationwide. Judge Trevor McFadden said he found the claim “highly dubious” following the verdict, suggesting that he was opened to an enhancement against Hale-Cusanelli for obstructing justice. Sentencing is scheduled for September 16."
Two men from Ohio charged with rioting at Capitol. Wooster man, his brother-in-law, latest to be charged in Jan. 6 Capitol riot excerpt: "CLEVELAND, Ohio— A Wooster man and his brother-in-law are the latest to be charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Devin Steiner, 40, is accused of entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct and demonstrating in the Capitol. FBI agents arrested Steiner early Wednesday on the charges. He was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond after his initial court appearance in Akron federal court. Court records did not list an attorney for Steiner. His brother-in-law, Adam Miller, who authorities say is a follower of QAnon conspiracy theories, has not been arrested. He faces the same charges as Steiner. Miller, 39, is from Smithville, also in Wayne County, according to a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C. Both cases will ultimately be transferred to a federal courtroom in Washington for the remainder of the proceedings. The two are among more than 700 charged so far in the on-going investigation. Forty-six are from Ohio, according to federal prosecutor’s statistics."
They have been investigated and prosecuted. Most of the guilty in the 2020 election cycle have turned out to be Republicans. Some used the most underhanded and unethical approaches for committing voting fraud.
Knudson abruptly resigned from the Wisconsin election commission. It's possible that Gableman could become the chairman. Gableman has been pursuing stolen election conspiracy narratives at taxpayer expense for the past year with no meaningful results. Gableman has recommended that WI decertify Biden's win even though no legal avenues exist to do it. Elections Commissioner Dean Knudson abruptly resigns, citing 'deep desire' from Republicans that he not chair the panel excerpt: "The Wisconsin Elections Commission has delayed a vote to pick a new chair after Republican Commissioner Dean Knudson abruptly announced his resignation from the six-member panel, saying it had been made clear to him "from the highest levels of the Republican Party" that they didn't want him to lead the body. Knudson, a former Republican state lawmaker who was appointed to the WEC by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, made the announcement Wednesday, just moments before commissioners were scheduled to vote on a new chair. Knudson said he would put his conservative record up against anyone in Wisconsin, but said he'd been branded a "RINO" for his work on the commission, referencing the acronym that stands for "Republican In Name Only." Knudson said that was partly because of the way he values personal integrity."
McCarthy doesn't plan on cooperating. McCarthy, GOP lawmakers escalate standoff with Jan. 6 panel excerpt: "McCarthy has acknowledged he spoke with Trump on Jan. 6 as Trump’s supporters were beating police outside the Capitol and forcing their way into the building. But he has not shared many details. The committee requested information about his conversations with Trump “before, during and after” the riot. His defiance presents a new challenge for the committee after lawmakers decided to take the extraordinary and politically risky step of subpoenaing their own colleagues. The committee now must decide whether to enforce the subpoenas even as it looks to wrap up the investigation and prepare for a series of public hearings in early June. It could refer the lawmakers to the House ethics committee or take steps to hold them in contempt."

Trump dings Republicans for pulling out NRA meeting after shooting in Uvalde excerpt: "Former President Donald Trump mocked other Republicans for pulling out of the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Houston after the shooting in Uvalde killed 21 people earlier this week. Mr Trump addressed the annual meeting at the George R Brown Convention Center just three days after Salvador Ramos opened fire and killed 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. “And unlike some, I didn’t disappoint you by not showing up,” Mr Trump told the crowd to applause. Many Texas’s top Republican officials were slated to address the annual meeting. But many--including Senator John Cornyn, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Representative Dan Crenshaw--wound up not speaking."
McCarthy won't admit a reported shouting match he had with Trump during the riot when the windows in his Congressional office were being smashed by rioters. He evaded a question about it asked by Wallace on Fox News Sunday. A recorded call revealed that McCarthy had planned to tell Trump to resign after the riot. McCarthy said after the riot that Trump was to blame for the riot and that he went too far with his antics this time. After all of that, McCarthy visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago in late January 2021 after he had left office. Since then, he has downplayed the riot and praised Trump. McCarthy claimed he wasn't aware of a photo that was taken of him standing next to Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The two are looking right at the camera and smiling. PolitiFact - What happened during the Jan. 6 call between Donald Trump and Kevin McCarthy?
Gov. Abbott of TX changed his mind and didn't appear at the NRA gathering in TX. He presented himself via a pre-recorded video. Ted Cruz literally ran away from reporters when asked why the U.S. is so plagued with mass shootings like the one in TX. Cruz accused the reporters of having an agenda as he ran away. Trump had the opportunity to visit victims of the TX mass shooting the same day that he attended the NRA gathering in TX. All that's needed now is for some of the mass shooting victims to hobble into an NRA gathering or for the NRA officials to visit victims at the hospitals.
