    "The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

    The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

    “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”"

    "A Georgia district attorney probing Donald Trump’s attempts to steal the 2020 presidential election says she is also looking into fake Electoral College certificates submitted by Trump supporters. In comments to CNN late Monday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said the phony certificates are “of interest” in the investigation. “We’re going to look at anything connected with interference with the 2020 election,” she said, noting that the investigation has a “broad scope” and will include “fake electorates.” Federal prosecutors are also looking into the bogus documents, which were sent to the National Archives by Trump backers proclaiming his victory in seven states that he actually lost. The documents, which had no bearing on the outcome of the election, were created in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, and New Mexico, according to American Oversight."

    Trump Settles Suit Over Payments to Hotel for 2017 Inauguration

    "WASHINGTON — The Trump family business and President Donald J. Trump’s 2017 inauguration committee have jointly agreed to pay $750,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the attorney general for the District of Columbia, who claimed that the Trump International Hotel in Washington illegally received excessive payments from the inauguration committee.

    The settlement in the civil suit came with no admission of wrongdoing by the Trump Organization, the former president or the inaugural committee.

    But the payment amounted to nearly three-quarters of the $1.03 million that the lawsuit, filed by Attorney General Karl Racine of Washington, said had been paid to Mr. Trump’s hotel by the nonprofit inaugural committee to rent out space at what Mr. Racine asserted was an above-market rate and then use it in part to host a private reception for Mr. Trump’s children on the evening he was sworn in as president.

    The settlement also came just days before the Trump family was slated to formally close on the sale of the Trump International Hotel, which will be converted to a Waldorf Astoria after Mr. Trump’s name is stripped from the landmark building on Pennsylvania Avenue, a few blocks from the White House."

    It's the usual tactic of Trump. Delay for years until a public trial is about to occur and then settle before trial to avoid being seen explicitly as a loser.

    Not just Democrats but Independents too. Most polls show that some 70-80% of Americans think abortion should be legal, meaning all the Dems and probably all the Independents. Republicans are patting themselves on the ass right now, but I think they just kicked a major hornet's nest. And with only months to go before midterms.......

    Recent history shows us the best way to get Dems & Independents to vote is to piss them the F off. Aaaand I think this'll do it lol

    In the court’s first public reaction since the scoop by Politico, Roberts said: “Although the document described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.”

    In a statement, he added: “To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed.”"

    "Sen. Susan Collins is shocked, stunned, and astounded that two conservative, Trump-appointed Supreme Court justices may have deceived her regarding their position on abortion rights.

    According to a reported draft majority opinion leaked to Politico, both Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Bret Kavanaugh have voted to overturn established precedent, protecting abortion rights, a precedent Collins has repeatedly said they told her they believed was “settled law.”

    “If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office,” Collins said, adding, “Obviously, we won’t know each Justice’s decision and reasoning until the Supreme Court officially announces its opinion in this case.”

    Collins was a key vote for Kavanaugh’s 50-48 confirmation. She also voted to confirm Gorsuch.

    Collins even defended Kavanaugh in 2019 when he dissented on a case regarding abortion access. She said that Kavanaugh “said under oath many times, as well as to me personally many times, that he considers Roe to be ‘precedent upon precedent’ because it had been reaffirmed in the Casey v. Planned Parenthood case.” And when asked by Jake Tapper if Gorsuch would overturn Roe, Collins replied, “I actually don’t.” She added that she had a “very long discussion with Justice Gorsuch in my office and he pointed out to me that he is a co-author of a whole book on precedent.”

    Collins and fellow Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski have introduced a bill that would protect the right to abortion, but it has not been passed and would certainly face a filibuster from fellow Republicans. On Monday, Biden called on Congress to codify abortion rights into federal law, and he urged voters to elect a Democratic majority this November that could make that happen."
