'Any' 'use' of Nukes will be the end ... for Putin.
He is more likely to use his arsenal of Rockets and Missiles to flatten the land ... he is claiming to liberate
If he does that , then even his supporters will find that a hard pill to swallow - and then the consequences will see Moscow become (ironically) a Chenobyl - I fear

    FYI
    THOMAS PAINE:

    upload_2022-2-27_19-47-23.jpeg

Thomas Paine was born on January 29, 1736 , the son of Joseph Pain, a tenant farmer and stay-maker,and Frances (née Cocke) Pain, in Thetford, Norfolk, England.
Despite claims that Thomas changed the spelling of his family name upon his emigration to America in 1774 he was using "Paine" in 1769, while still in Lewes, Sussex.

A possible positive spin on this mess...

I was just reading Putin's comments about escalating things to nukes. Buried in those comments is his acknowledgement that the sanctions are working against him. My biggest fear had been that Putin wouldn't give a rat's ass and would call EU/USA's bluff by ignoring the economic front. But his latest comments make it clear that he's feeling the sanctions (especially since we know his personal accounts have been targeted).

Now let's take a flower power leap of logic if we may. Suppose this conflict gets resolved without further violent escalation. Then this would be the first time in earth history that a major war was defused with economic unity. I think it's pretty impressive that the financial powers all came together, even including facebook & youtube for demonetising Russia's propaganda channels (not to mention certain alcohol distrubutors refusing to carry Russian vodka :p). And if this financial campaign is indeed successful, this will literally change the face of warfare forever.

I hope the world leaders are taking notice that this is the new, efficient, non-explosive way to fight wars. If we live through this with a positive outcome I think we'll have just witnessed something pretty amazing.

That's my question too. All Ukraine did was to be alive. They never did join NATO or the EU ... both worry Putin. Ukraine has a big Muslim minority; but they voted for Zelensky who is Jewish. They have a very modern and progressive population. Everyone in my Muslim circle likes Zelensky.

Do you remember that Russian chick who was on Oleg Deripshka's yacht and was in a Thai jail for a while? I would like to hear what she has to say now?

  11. Russia can’t afford a costly drawn out war. The state of Texas alone has a bigger economy than Russia. I’m watching for more protests and runs on banks in Russia. Putin will have to save face somehow, and that’s a scary thought.

Little while ago on CNN the retired US Army General who was Commander of NATO Forces Europe (forgot his name for a moment) pointed out some statistics.

The Ukraine capital city is as big as our Chicago in the US, the country itself is almost as large as our state of Texas. To try to assault that area with 200,000 troops, 40% of which are support types, medical, cooks and food, general supply types, and then to try to occupy a city that large, and others, which have an inspired civilian resistance, is frankly, dumb.

Or as he put it, "We in NATO spent years planning for such as this", and "I don't think the Russian commanders thought this idea through very well."

And that a Main Battle Tank has a 250 gal fuel tank with a consumption of about 1gal/mile. Where are the fuel supply trucks? Once out of fuel, it becomes a sitting duck.

Putin is tough and smart. He is not the only one running Russia. There are thousands in his government running things. I don't think we should reduce Russia to just a one man show. Putin is not Gadafi. I did see that Russia said they don't want to occupy Ukraine. I'm thinking they might to install a Russia friendly puppet government there, just like the USA has in Egypt, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

I heard an analyst say that Russia has forgot how to fight a war because they haven’t fought one since Afghanistan .

The supply trucks are in this military convoy which is about 3 miles long . This is the main body I have been harping on about which contains the nasties . At the time I post this it will be nearing the capital ready for deployment

Thank you, Wolf. As I'd noted, "...upon his emigration to America in 1774..."

    Very true

They are very much a conscripted army and have no battle experience .

That is why the Russians tied down the best of the Ukrainian troops ,many battle hardened veterans supported by their newest tanks the T84 in the Donbas Region with the Mercenary Russian Separatists already there . Whilst this was happening these regular conscripted Russian troops were able to bypass them .

A classic bit of military strategy using a feint attack . This for me was the only bit that went the Russians way .

There is more chance of Putin being toppled as I am hearing through the western media that there is disquiet from his generals of this Ukraine crisis . It hasnt been achieved in the 48 hour period they had anticipated . Possbly the last throw of the dice when the main force is in position around the Capital .

  20. I’m old enough to remember the duck and cover drills in elementary school during the Cold War. The kids would joke- OK we’re going to die in the hallway instead of our classroom.
