Yes you are correct about the West . Mirrors the 1930s .

These sanctions we have just being imposed today should have been introduced when Russia land grabbed the Crimea . We never know for sure but possibly this invasion may not have happened if the West had toughened up .

 

The Ukrainian President is seeking a cease fire . Doing the right thing so no more civilian or military casualties .

Beginning of the end for a free Ukraine .

Moldova I guess is next on Putins shopping list

 

A cease fire would buy some time for the rest of the world to formulate an effective deterrent to further aggression.

 

I think its a prelude to surrendering if being honest . They just dont have the equipment to resist such an invasion and the West will not assist militarily .

He has been cornered and needs to do the best for his people .

No that's not what I meant, NATO;- It seems, believed that the strategic movement of it's Chess pieces would be sufficient to disuade - but this was not the case.
This being said, only someone; knowing what the potential consequences could be, and of a particular mindset would chance the wrath of a major military opposition and act in this way.
Putin has now made his play, and this (IMO) can only see two outcomes
- His Rise, and Strength increases, and with it his dictatorship
- His Fall, either internally - or - more worryingly externally

The latest on the talks is that they have been called off . Russia wanted them to be held in Minsk and the Ukraine President wanted them to be held in Warsaw.
