"Hawaii was a new state in 1960 holding its first presidential election — a concept that’s also worth remembering as the possibility of adding Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia to the union is portrayed as somehow outrageous.

Turnout topped 93 percent in Hawaii. The state’s result was close, just as the nation’s was overall. Nixon initially appeared to be the winner by 141 votes, and the Republican governor declared him the winner. But a judge granted the Kennedy team’s request for a recount. As it dragged on, the judge rejected GOP attempts to stop the count. When the mid-December date came for the Electoral College to meet — this year it’s Dec. 14 — both Republican and Democratic electors sent their votes to Washington to be counted.

Kennedy eventually was declared the winner in the Hawaii recount by 115 votes, but the two sets of certifications were waiting when the joint session of Congress convened. Democrats, including Rep. Daniel K. Inouye, were ready to lodge an objection if the GOP slate was counted, but the presiding officer — the Senate president, who also is the vice president: i.e., Nixon — pushed the issue aside.

“He resolved it in a rather statesmanlike way by using parliamentary procedure,” State University of New York professor James A. Gardner said in a recent webinar organized by the New York State Bar Association. “He asked for unanimous consent that the votes of the Democratic electors would count. So he resolved this against himself.”"

"Nixon wasn’t the first vice president who had to preside over the opening of electoral votes that declared his opponent the winner, and he wasn’t the last. The most recent was Al Gore, who had conceded the 2000 election after the Supreme Court stopped a recount in Florida, effectively handing the state’s electoral votes, and the presidency, to George W. Bush. At that joint session in 2001, House Democrats in the Congressional Black Caucus tried to object to the acceptance of Florida’s electoral votes. But their complaint did not have a Senate co-sponsor as required by law, and it was dismissed by Gore."

 

Trump ‘Confused’ That Staff Didn’t Enjoy Him Rewinding Capitol Riot Highlights, Says Report

"Donald Trump didn’t get why his White House staff wasn’t enjoying themselves as much as he was when he rewound his favorite bits of the Capitol riot to watch them again, according to a new report. The Associated Press has uncovered more claims about the chaos in the West Wing on Jan. 6, based on testimony given to the House panel investigating the riot. The report repeats a previous claim from Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary, that Trump was reveling in the riot so much that he rewound the footage at several points to watch it over again. Grisham claimed Trump told his staff to “look at all of the people fighting for me” and the report says Trump was “confused” about why staffers weren’t as excited as him while watching the insurrection. Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg has reportedly told the House panel investigating the riot that staff urged Trump to take immediate action, but he refused."

 

In Trump's mind, it's always about him.

 

What does Ivanka Trump know about Jan. 6? Congress is asking

“Is someone getting to potus? He has to tell protestors to dissipate. Someone is going to get killed,” Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House communications official, texted Ben Williamson, an aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

“I’ve been trying for the last 30 minutes. Literally stormed in outer oval to get him to put out the first one. It’s completely insane,” Williamson wrote back.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., then called Ivanka Trump, pleading that the president “ask people to leave.”

“We’re working on it,” she replied.

At that point, staffers acknowledged that despite efforts by Meadows, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Kellogg, the only person who could get through to him would be his daughter.

Ivanka Trump, according to testimony, went on to make at least two “tenacious” attempts to reason with her father as staffers were bombarded with messages from Trump allies begging him to quell the violence.

“Can he make a statement. I saw the tweet. Ask people to leave the (Capitol),” Fox News host Sean Hannity texted Meadows.

 

And yet Trump is upset that his daughter Ivanka is being asked to talk to the Jan. 6 committee, as if she's an innocent minor (in her forties) being persecuted.

 

GOP lawmakers in Congress and some of Trump's own staff had difficulty contacting Trump during the riot and pathetically had to resort to using his daughter Ivanka as a proxy.

 

One of the most twisted remarks Trump made was to accuse the lawmakers, that his rioters were attacking, of luring his rioters into their hands to take advantage of them.


What does Ivanka Trump know about Jan. 6? Congress is asking

“This was a fraudulent election, but we can’t play into the hands of these people,” Trump said in the video. “We have to have peace. So go home. We love you; you’re very special.”

 

The situation with Trump's rioters was so volatile that he and his staff had to try to address them in the most apologetic language, while at the same time telling them to stop rioting, to avoid making them even more violent.

 

It's reasonable to assume that Trump's staff didn't want him to go on TV live with his uncontrolled mouth that could make his rioters explode even more.

The use of a prerecorded video that he posted during the riot was a way of controlling his mouth.

 

Bottom line is Trump is mentally ill. Ivanka should call him on it, but she is afraid she will be disowned.

Prado’s husband was similarly effusive of Prado’s participation in the Capitol breach.

“Please meet the new Congresswoman…she was in the Capitol…She stormed the Capitol… She’s the Speaker of the House,” her husband said in a video posted to Instagram after she left the Capitol building.

Prado, who now lives in Florida, was arrested in June. She pleaded guilty in November to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, a misdemeanor that carries a potential 6 months in prison and $5,000 fine."

"NEW YORK — A Chicago banker was sentenced on Monday to a year in prison for his conviction in a scheme to make $16 million in loans to Paul Manafort to gain influence in the Trump administration.

Manafort served as a campaign manager to former President Donald Trump for a key stretch from June to early August 2016.

The banker, Stephen Calk, was convicted last year on financial institution bribery and conspiracy charges in Manhattan federal court.

Before hearing the sentence, the 57-year-old Calk told the judge that the case has left his life “in shambles.”

“I sit here deeply, deeply humbled,” he said, fighting back tears. He added: “I never sought to gain fame or power.”

Defense attorney Paul Schoeman had argued for a non-prison sentence for Calk, calling him “a good and decent man who led a law-abiding life. ... It’s an aberration that he’s in this courtroom.”"

Young MAGA rioter who bragged about being a 'stormtrooper' at Capitol pleads guilty

"A Georgia man who at 20 years old was among the youngest rioters at the January 6 insurrection has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of illegally demonstrating at the U.S. Capitol.

Nolan Harold Kidd of Crawford, GA, had been charged along with Savannah Danielle McDonald with the help of online posts in which the two boasted about their part in the riot. McDonald, 21, of Elberton GA, pleaded guilty January 19.

“Prosecutors said the two posted photos of their exploits on social media soon after returning from the riot,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

“Just made it home,” Kidd allegedly wrote on Facebook, “I have tons of photos and videos to share with you guys."

 

If you're going to be totally wrong... May as well really fucking go for it.
