‘Cowboys for Trump’ founder’s Jan. 6 case highlights challenges facing prosecutors

"A New Mexico county official charged with two misdemeanors for breaching Capitol grounds on Jan. 6 lashed out Monday after a federal judge set a March 2022 trial date to resolve his case.

“I broke nothing, I didn't fight with anybody,” Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner and the founder of “Cowboys for Trump,” said during a video hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden. “My life’s been turned upside down. … I'm being punished every day I don't have a trial.”

Griffin’s case has become an early test for the thicket of challenges confronting prosecutors and courts as they continue processing the 600-plus Capitol riot defendants. Investigators say Griffin followed the Jan. 6 mob to the foot of the Capitol and stood on the steps but did not enter the building. He faces two charges for entering a restricted area without authorization and committing disruptive conduct while he was there."

"GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - On Friday, Sept. 17, Mesa Co. Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters presented the Mesa Co. Board of Commissioners with alleged evidence of a significant loss of data found within the Mesa Co. voting systems.

The evidence Peters gave to the board is a 83-page report of forensic examination and analysis. According to Peters, it was prepared by Doug Gould, the cyber forensic expert retained to advise her in accordance with her duties as the county’s Chief Election Official.

The Sec. of State has stripped Clerk Peters of her election supervision authorities. In Aug. the Mesa Co. Board of Commissioners appointed Wayne Williams as the county’s Designated Election Official.

The report claims, “forensic examination found that election records, including data described in the Federal Election Commission’s 2002 Voting Systems Stands (VSS) mandated by Colorado law as certification requirements for Colorado voting systems, have been destroyed on the Mesa County’s voting system, by the system vendor and the Colorado Secretary of State’s office.” The report then continues by naming concerns for possible data destruction in other counties.

The report also claims a total of 28,989 logfiles were deleted. According to the report, these logfiles are required to reconstruct the function of and events taking place on the voting systems, and based upon information provided by legal counsel, must, by law, be preserved."

 

Ummmm... Let me guess. She deleted them, hung out with pillow guy for awhile, resurfaces and is now reporting somebody deleted them.

Tina Peters lied about a consultant being an employee of her office. Someone turned off the security cameras. Someone stole data from the voting machines that later surfaced on the web.

After all of that, Peters says she was just doing her job.

Trump planted much of this false suspicion in the minds of his following with his months long 'stolen election' campaign.

Trump won't endorse GOP Ohio U.S. Senate candidate Dolan because his father owns the Cleveland Guardians baseball team and Trump is upset that the name was changed from the Indians.

That's akin to Richard Nixon hiring a crew to burglarize Watergate and justifying it by saying it allegedly revealedcriminal acts by groups he didn't like who were competition in a presidential election.

 

He's reaching for anything sensational he can use to get people's attention. Nobody's interested in another civil war, with at least half of republicans considering his first civil war to be successful, but overblown and taken too far. There's no way he can wag the dog of the Tea Party if he can't up the rhetoric and get their attention, while the rest of the republican party is burnt out already.

Never say die is Donald Duck's motto, because he has nothing whatsoever to lose.

Trump's success rate in promoting retaliation candidates for the 2022 election remains to be seen.

The caustic nature of Trump and the current state of the GOP in general has been a variable in the equations of whether to seek reelection for GOP members who could be considered respectable.

Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio has decided not to run again in 2022 after two terms, citing the atmosphere created by Trump as one of the reasons.

The 27-year-old New Jersey man is an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He was arrested by Capitol Police for illegally possessing a gun on the grounds of the Capitol after people in the crowd reported seeing him with a handgun and notified nearby officers."


"A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Washington said prosecutors were "not moving forward with charges" but did not provide additional information about the decision.

Two law enforcement officials said the officer was not at the rally in any official capacity. The officials could not discuss the matter publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity. The Department of Homeland Security's inspector general was also notified of his arrest."
