Well, there's a big secondary market for coal, to use as snowman decorations. Oh, wait, soon we won't have any snow.....

Seems the only thing coal sells as anymore is barbecue briquets, and they're getting replaced more and more by propane.

Well yes, coal is becoming obsolete all on its own.

Garbage like that used to really bother me but for all the time I've spent wondering how he can come out with statements like that, there's always one factor standing in the way.......: why shouldn't he lie?

I mean, why not? Whatever he says is believed and approved of by tens of millions of people, right? He speaks off the top of his head, inventing statistics like the one quoted above. He can lie through his teeth, be proven wrong, come back with an even more outrageous lie, misrepresentation or incorrect statement......and his supporters tell us he's the greatest American president in history.

When Trump supporters are asked if they find him to be a honest person, they say that he is.They're happy to forgive .....or remain willfully ignorant of.....all his lies and deceit.

Why should Trump stop lying? It works.

Coal operation ends at Drake Power Plant - KRDO

    excerpt:

"Yes, Drake is considered by most nowadays to be an eyesore, a relic from a different time when people had different priorities, but it did provide decades of service to the city of Colorado Springs, providing both jobs and reliable energy.

It was 1925 when the plant first opened on Conejos Street downtown, named after longtime city councilman Martin Drake, who was also a strong supporter of city-owned utilities.

At that time, coal was the modern and preferred fuel to generate power, and few were concerned about greenhouse gases, or what development could have occupied the property instead.

Just a few years ago, the plan was to close Drake sometime after 2030, despite public demand to shut down coal operations as well as the desire among city leaders to clear the space for more modern development.

In the end however, it wasn’t public outcry nor future projects that drove the decision to end coal burning.

The biggest driving force was the fact that coal is no longer the most economical option."

If he runs in 2024, Trump probably won't try to make his platform about farmers, coal miners, and auto workers like he did in 2016.

He can't boast about national debt reduction (that he mistakenly thought he could reduce by reducing the trade deficit), immigration reform, infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He didn't even start to tackle those issues in a meaningful manner that involves passage of significant legislation.

On foreign policy, his negotiations with the Taliban left a mess for the next administration that his own former officials admit.

On the virus front, he is trying to mitigate the embarrassment of his constituents and numerous high-profile anti-vaxxers dying in large numbers by changing course and publicly encouraging people to be vaccinated.

It leaves for his platform the corporate tax cut of 2017, spreading lies about election fraud, and bigoted culture wars involving race-baiting, sports teams kneeling for the national anthem, immigrant bashing, and rants against mask mandates. That's a shallow platform.

He has to carry the excess baggage of his insurrection at the Capitol that will haunt him forever.

There's nothing delusional about Fox News, because they don't think, they're fucking lawyers grabbing that cash with both hands, and making Papa Scrooge proud. The idea these idiots actually believe anything, or care about anything, belies the fact they would steal candy from a baby, and gladly stab each other in back for a promotion. They forced them to remove the comedy show "Soap" from the air, because it depicts reality too closely, and could cut into profits.

Did Fox News mention that Assad was told before hand and the missiles did so little damage the airfield was operational the next day?

No? They forgot to mention that?

Seems an important bit of info to just forget like that... Fair and balanced and all that jazz...

Trump launches military strike against Syria | CNN Politics

    CNN —
The United States launched a military strike Thursday on a Syrian government airbase in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier in the week.

On President Donald Trump’s orders, US warships launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the airbase that was home to the warplanes that carried out the chemical attacks, US officials said.

Initial indications are that this strike has severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and support infrastructure and equipment at Shayrat Airfield, reducing the Syrian government’s ability to deliver chemical weapons,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

A US defense official told CNN Friday morning that an initial battle damage assessment from the strike was that 58 of the 59 missiles “severely degraded or destroyed” their intended target. The official cautioned that this is just the earliest assessment using radar and that more robust assessments using satellites and other surveillance is still pending.

Trump is obviously a seriously stupid fucker, but what does that indicate about 74 million of our countrymen/women. They are the reason Fox, the other right wing media including all the lying conservative talking heads on tv, blogs and radio exist. If the repubs take back ANY OF THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCHES--WE'RE DONE AS A PRETEND DEMOCRACY!

    Don’t Negotiate With Trump’s Disease-Spreading Zombie Army

    excerpt:

"What will it take for the American majority to stop being hijacked by the bad-faith politics of an increasingly radicalized GOP that will stop at nothing to promote death and achieve minority rule?

Most of us in this country, who have chosen life during a pandemic, are asked to coddle the unhinged temper tantrums and violent extremism of a conservative base that continues supporting the Jan. 6 violent insurrection and attacking our voting rights, and is willing to sacrifice our children as canaries in the COVID coalmine to fuel their endless culture war during a pandemic that has killed over 600,000 Americans."

    Don’t Negotiate With Trump’s Disease-Spreading Zombie Army

    excerpt:

"Welcome to the Upside Down. Democracy might not survive, but the ratings will be great as the GOP base has become so unhinged and radicalized on a feed bag of disinformation to the point that Crenshaw, a slavish MAGA man, got heckled for refusing to say the election was stolen. Even Trump, their god-king, was booed by his adoring cult at a recent rally in Alabama. Did he praise Muslims? Hug an undocumented immigrant? Compliment Obama? Nope. He simply gently recommended that they take a life-saving vaccine, like he did, that will protect them from suffering a tragic, unnecessary death.

You can’t “win over” these folks anymore. They are too far over the bend to get brought back around by Hillbilly Elegies, FDA vaccine approvals, sympathetic profiles of voters in rust belt diners, or town halls with undecided voters. Facts, common sense, and good-naturedness will not sway their fragile, terrified hearts.""

I think that all that you mentioned above in post 44485, shows just how serious it is when cult type behavior becomes so prevalent in a large population. It is now embedded in a large segment of our citizens and is self perpetuating. Woe is us---pogo was right on as was Barnum.:( I agree totally with 44486.

I really believe that. Most will never admit to being horn-swaggled by Trump, and I believe that 90% of the people who are going to get vaccinated already have been - and the rest will roll the dice on pride and stupidity.

My idiot Alabama boss is now on his second week of covid recovery. Dumb ass anti vaxxer.
