Trump knows how to drag an issue through the courts.

He will try to drag the executive privilege battle into 2023 with the hopes that the GOP will regain control of the House and change the subject of the Capitol riot investigation from Trump to Pelosi.

Undocumented Polish workers who were working on Trump Tower in 1980 filed a lawsuit in 1983 for being cheated out of wages and benefits.

    Trump settled privately in 1999.

I'm starting to get concerned, really concerned.

Are the Republicans sending us a message they're willing to die for what they believe in?

Conservative Lawyer for Jan. 6 Defendants Who Formerly Represented Kyle Rittenhouse Is Reportedly on a Ventilator Due to COVID-19

John Pierce, a high-profile conservative lawyer who previously represented Kyle Rittenhouse
in his homicide case but was eventually fired, is reportedly on a ventilator due to COVID-19.

One week ago, Piece said he would never be vaccinated.

We're witnessing one sacrifice after another, school teachers, conservative radio talk show hosts, pastors, legislators, and now a highly intelligent attorney with years of experience laying in bed in a hospital, completely non-responsive, and on a ventilator near-death.

They are forced into taking that position.

I take a number of positions contrary to liberal democratic doctrine, they can do the same.

Can Trump continue to out-crank the cranks he helped create?

Trumpism Has Entered Its Final Form

    excerpt:

"In a right-wing movement that is home to a growing assortment of cranks and kooks—Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz, Paul Gosar and Lauren Boebert, Mo Brooks and Madison Cawthorn, Ron Johnson and Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lindell and Michael Flynn, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, Cyber Ninjas and QAnon, anti-vaxxers and insurrectionists—Trump looks rather ordinary. He wants credit for the vaccines that were developed during his administration, which mark a genuine medical milestone, but in some quarters of today’s Republican Party, that makes Trump suspect, too closely aligned with the hated Anthony Fauci, a dumbass."

Trumpism Has Entered Its Final Form

    excerpt:

"What was seen as shocking in 2017 is now anodyne. The ethical lines that existed then turned out to have been drawn in sand. When you cross into territory devoid of moral axioms or epistemic standards—the kind of world you would find in a Turgenev novel—things can get very ugly, very quickly. Even Trump—whose derangement now includes turning a violent Capitol Hill rioter who was shot and killed by a police officer into a martyr, falsely accusing the police officer of murder, and issuing yet another barely concealed incitement to violence—can begin to look like a mainstream figure within the party. At some point in the future, the same may be said of Marjorie Taylor Greene.

All of this is not only worrisome but deeply dispiriting, especially for those of us who were loyal Republicans for our entire political life, until 2016. To watch an entire party bend and then break and stay broken, to witness it become what it once claimed to loathe, to see it move in an even more frenzied direction after Trump’s presidency than during it, is painful. But not nearly as painful as staying silent or becoming complicit with those who continue to cause grave damage to conservatism, to truth, and to our republic."

A political cartoon shows the GOP taking another swig from a liquor bottle with Trump's name on it while saying, "I can quit anytime I want."

Trumpism has become worse than that, like mixing alcohol with barbiturate pills to elicit a stronger high.

Trumpism Has Entered Its Final Form

    excerpt:

"Republicans who assumed that the party would return to sanity after Trump left office never understood how deforming the effects of his presidency would be. For many, Trump’s behaviors were initially a bug; eventually, they became a feature. Republicans ignored his corruptions and reveled in his cruelty. They entered Trump’s hall of mirrors, and they rather enjoyed it.

To better understand what’s happening in the GOP, think of a person with addiction who over time develops a tolerance; as a result, they need more potent and more frequent doses of the drug to get their desired high. And sometimes even that isn’t enough. They might turn to a more potent drug, which offers a more intense experience and a longer-lasting high, but at the price of considerably more danger."

Trump could have settled 16 years earlier, but he is hellbent on not being perceived as a loser.

He settled the Trump University lawsuit much sooner, but that was because he had become president. He likely would have had to appear at a public trial which would have been embarrassing for him, and he would have run the risk of losing in a spectacle.

Jim Banks thinks that Republicans investigating Trump's abuse of power is an abuse of power.

GOP Rep. Jim Banks: Republicans Have A 'Duty' To Punish Members Investigating Jan. 6 Riot

    excerpt:

“When we win back the majority next year, we have a duty as Republicans to hold every member of this committee accountable for this abuse of power, for stepping over the line, by preventing them from being in positions of authority,” Banks told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday. “Take them off any committee, get them as far away from positions of power as you can because they’ve shown us that by threatening to do this that they abuse their power, wherever they are.”

Trump's audit in AZ turns uglier.

Arizona AG threatens Maricopa County funds over election audit

    excerpt:

"Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is threatening to withhold millions in state funds from Maricopa County if it doesn't comply with the state Senate's partisan audit of the 2020 election, according to a new report sent to the County Board of Supervisors reviewed by Axios.

Why it matters: Nine months after Election Day, this represents an escalation of a fight by Donald Trump-aligned Republicans — in this case, backed by state laws involving taxpayer funds and the power of the Attorney General's office — to continue baselessly questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 election.

Between the lines: Brnovich is running for Sen. Mark Kelly's (D-Ariz.) seat next year. Keeping the audit alive could curry favor among some Republican voters ahead of a crowded primary."

Trump rioter from Georgia arrested in connection with Capitol insurrection.

Clayton man latest arrested from Georgia in Capitol riot probe

    excerpt:

"Federal authorities say Blas Fabian Santillan stood on the Capitol steps on Jan. 6 and screamed at the crowd to storm the building, bragging that he had already done so.

“I’m the only one that was willing to kick that door. Who else is willing to storm in there?” Santillan, 26, said, according to the criminal complaint which quotes a video of the incident. “You do not know what freedom is. ... Freedom is doing what you want.”

The FBI arrested Santillan Monday at his home in Clayton, about 100 miles northeast of Atlanta in Rabun County, on a four-court criminal indictment. He was charged by a federal magistrate judge the same day, assigned a federal public defender and released on his own recognizance.

Under the terms of his release, he cannot possess firearms or other weapons; has to check in with a parole officer regularly; and cannot leave North Georgia except for work. He is specifically forbidden from traveling to Washington for any reason other than a court appearance.

He is the 15th Georgian arrested as part of the nationwide investigation into the insurrection. He did not respond to requests for comment from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution."

Leave it to Trump to promote a cocky kid from a wealthy and powerful real estate family in Ohio.

‘He’s a Great Guy’: Trump’s Favored Aide Has Troubled Past

    excerpt:

"Just about everybody at Shaker Heights High School knew Max Leonard Miller.

He was born an heir of two of the most important families and arguably the most important company in the modern history of Cleveland, the grandson of business kingpin and political power broker Sam Miller and Ruth Ratner Miller, the oldest of the two sons of Abe and Barb Miller and a namesake of Max and Leonard Ratner—the original president and chair, respectively, of Forest City Enterprises, the colossal real estate firm and a font of the clan’s riches, privilege and prestige. Miller lived on a lush corner lot in a large tan home with first-rate real-estate-listing features like a grand foyer and a greenhouse and a sauna and an indoor pool.

He drove a black BMW SUV equipped with a subwoofer, schoolmates recalled, blasting along the leafy streets of the well-to-do town to the thumps of the beats of Lil Wayne mixtapes. “That thing was so loud … down-the-block loud … super, super, super, super loud,” a person who was a frequent passenger told me. “That,” said River McWilliams, who played with Miller on Shaker Heights High School’s baseball team, “was the typical kind of way he kind of rolled up to everything.”

I’ve thought for awhile that some of these people were common criminals who saw an opportunity to be on television.

Perhaps not as big as the de-wormer pills for horses that Trump's followers are swallowing to try to treat COVID.
