Taliban’s spoils of war include US weapons and technology The report detailed the inventory of the Afghan air force: Twenty-three usable A-29 “Super Tucano” turboprop ground-attack aircraft, 3 usable C-130 transport aircraft, 33 usable UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, and 43 smaller MD-530 choppers, among others. It's unclear how many have been seized by the Taliban. The U.S. provided Afghan forces with a minimum of 600,000 infantry weapons, 162,000 pieces of communication equipment, and 16,000 night vision goggles since 2003, according to Reuters.
Even though the Afghan Defense forces received all this equipment over all these years, there’s a ground truth to the actual current condition of all this equipment.Except for the infantry weapons, I doubt the Taliban know how to use any of the other items- i.e. aircraft, helicopters, communications systems, etc. all of those items require a maintenance program, updated software, batteries, replacement parts, fuel- it won’t do them any good even having this stuff after awhile. The weapons will require specific types of ammunition they won’t be able to replace, because I’m sure there will be embargoes in place. More than likely, a large percentage of that stuff is unserviceable, deadlined, destroyed from combat, destroyed from the natural elements and most importantly, they probably don’t have anyone around to train them on how to use all this stuff because they are fucking KILLING the ones that know how to use it! But this is where China and Russia can quickly step in and provide the training, in exchange for some real estate and other agreements. They have special operators who are trained in using US weapons, just as we have experts trained on using Russian and Chinese weapons and equipment.
Kind of like the $$ billions of equipment left in the gulf that will finance Haliburton for the next century. I'm sure they have some kind of disabling mechanisms for the aircraft, time bombs in the software. If nothing else, they will no-maintenance themselves out of commission. I think you can get like 30 hours of air time on a black hawk before you need some kind of tear down.
Good points. And to add to what you said, I think the aircraft that the US sells or gives to other countries are not outfitted with the same specifications and sophisticated systems that are in our versions of those particular aircraft. I think we went in knowing damn well that at some point this can turn into a great big doo-doo sandwich (as it has), and that we must reserve that advanced technology for the inevitable. Sigh..smh…same ol shit, different century!
With out question, the people that will be arriving to help will be making millions supplying knowledge, training those that are repairing equipment providing supplies etc.
UK is working 'full speed' to rescue 4,000 Brits and Afghans STILL stuck in Kabul | Daily Mail Online The UK Government is now in a race against time to airlift nearly 2,000 Afghan interpreters and other staff who worked for Britain out of Kabul as the evacuation operation enters its final desperate days. Those people are understood to have been deemed eligible to come to the UK and have passed security checks but remain on the ground. The Pentagon briefed this afternoon that there are currently 10,000 people in total waiting at the airport for a flight out of the capital.
If the Taliban does anything when the efforts to get out of Afghanistan goes past 31 August, rest assured- they will pay dearly……..
I hope you are right, I have my doubts All it would take to stop the rescue efforts is one man shooting at a plane etc to stop all the progress in its tracks Americans and our allies will be stranded, found/captured ——-
Makes me really wonder, what kind of massive aid deal was struck with the Taliban to allow this big escape?
CIA director held secret meeting with Taliban leader in Kabul Washington — CIA Director William Burns met with the Taliban's de facto leader in Kabul on Monday, a source familiar with the situation said, in what marks the group's highest-level encounter with the Biden administration since the fall of the Afghan capital. A Taliban spokesperson told CBS News that extending operations beyond August 31 would be a "violation" of the U.S. commitment to withdraw. "The response depends on the decision of our leadership," the spokesperson said.
Puff the Magic Dragon. Its a C130 cargo plane, with auto miniguns, grenade launchers, etc. and can easily level every inch of a football field in 30 seconds, and make enough noise to wake the dead. The US told the Taliban, in no uncertain terms, don't fuck with our retreat, or you will regret it! The Taliban is a bunch of stone age assholes, with AK47s and grenade launchers, but they have friends. Believe it or not, the country is so insane, it would criminal for the US to take away all their weapons.
