"In February 2020, Trump unveiled an agreement with the Taliban. The deal was an utter embarrassment, one of the worst ever negotiated by an American president. Under its terms, the United States not only agreed to withdraw by May 2021, it also committed itself to obtaining the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners, and another thousand in subsequent months, fortifying the Taliban’s fighting force. The US also promised to help lift all international sanctions against the Taliban.

In exchange, the Taliban promised not to attack Americans until they left, and agreed to start talks with the Afghan government.

The supposed negotiations with Afghan representatives went nowhere, but the Americans started leaving. Trump kept tweeting he was pulling out the troops, removing any incentive for the Taliban to compromise.

Afghan civilians were not fooled by Trump’s so-called peace deal. Watching the signing, 28-year-old activist Zahra Husseini told AFP, “Today is a dark day…I had this bad feeling that it would result in [the Taliban’s] return to power rather than in peace.”

She was right. But Trump was excited."

Why the Right Is So Obsessed With Comparing Afghanistan to the “Fall of Saigon”

 

LOL, only Americans are clueless about how their own politics work. Despite modern science insisting there's no such thing as common sense, anywhere in the world, some 90% of Americans are so stupid they ignore anything they believe contradicts common sense and conventional wisdom, and they all believe they are better than average at detecting bullshit. They are a culture of compulsive liars, with Donald Duck credited with well over 4,000 blatant lies during his time in office, and half the republican party still insisting the sun revolves around the earth, and spreading misinformation all the time.

The only reason they are comparing Afghanistan to Saigon is because its good marketing. Donald Duck is fantastic at marketing exactly the kind of stupid bullshit his fans demand, and the chickens will peck at anything except the kitchen sink. In this case, the similarity of the photos is more than enough incentive for republicans to declare the moon is made of cheeze.

 

There’s something wrong with that woman.

A bodybuilding Trump fan photographed dragging a police officer during the Capitol riot has been arrested after a months-long hunt by internet sleuths

More than seven months after a mob of pro-Trump rioters attacked the Capitol building, authorities have identified and arrested a high-profile suspect who was photographed dragging a police officer down a set of stairs during the siege.

Logan Barnhart, a 40-year-old Michigan bodybuilder, faces multiple charges, including assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, according to the FBI.

HuffPost, which first reported Barnhart's arrest, said Barnhart became a "white whale" for online internet sleuths searching for information on unidentified insurrectionists in the aftermath of the attack. The "Sedition Hunters" community gave Barnhart the nickname "CatSweat" because he is alleged to have worn a Caterpillar brand sweatshirt to the Capitol on January 6.
