DOJ delivers a 'significant' blow to Trump as Capitol riot hearings open excerpt: "Former president Donald Trump's alleged efforts to get Justice Department officials to overturn the results of the 2020 election constitute an "extraordinary circumstance" and are not protected by executive privilege, the DOJ wrote in a letter this week. In the letter obtained by the New York Times, the DOJ advised officials who served in the Trump administration that they can give "unrestricted testimony" to committees investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, including the House panel that will meet for the first time Tuesday. "The decision runs counter to the views of former President Donald J. Trump, who has argued that his decisions and deliberations are protected by executive privilege," the Times reported. "It also sets up a potential court battle if Mr. Trump sues in a bid to block any testimony."
POLITICO Playbook: Is McCarthy prepared for Trump’s wrath about the Jan. 6 committee? excerpt: "For the first time across dozens of high-profile Trump-related oversight hearings, Republican leadership and allies will have no voice on the panel. (It’s going to be weird for us Hill watchers who are used to Rep. JIM JORDAN (R-Ohio) lobbing procedural grenades into proceedings to start fights. McCarthy’s rather abrupt decision last week to pull his members from the Jan. 6 committee means that Democrats — and their two GOP allies on this issue, LIZ CHENEY (Wyo.) and ADAM KINZINGER (Ill.) — will have free rein to set the narrative. (This is why several folks on McCarthy’s own leadership team thought that pulling out was a bad idea.)"
POLITICO Playbook: Is McCarthy prepared for Trump’s wrath about the Jan. 6 committee? excerpt: "— Meanwhile, where will some of the most vocal pro-Trump House Republicans be instead? Reps. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE (R-Ga.), MATT GAETZ (R-Fla.), PAUL GOSAR (R-Ariz.) and LOUIE GOHMERT (R-Texas) will head to the Justice Department to protest the “treatment of Jan. 6th prisoners.” (Note the language: not “rioters” charged with violent acts; “Jan. 6th prisoners,” as if locked up for their political views.) This comes as some of the most hardcore Trumpies in the House have sought to cast the siege as a peaceful protest — a rewriting of history that McCarthy, frankly, has done little to push back on publicly. — Meanwhile, McCarthy wants to focus attention on Speaker NANCY PELOSI’s unprecedented power move last week to block two Republican lawmakers from the Jan. 6 committee. House GOP leaders will have a press conference this morning before the hearing, no doubt looking to try and frame the day’s proceedings. — But ask yourself this: Do you think McCarthy’s complaints about Pelosi will mollify DONALD TRUMP when he turns on his TV and sees no Republicans on the dais defending him?"
That's just it, he as the money and lawyers to tie this shit up in court until they finally close the lid on him.
I can already predict the Republican response to the Capitol policeman’s testimony. Gym Jordan, MTG, Paul Gosar, Lindsey Graham, Kevin McCarthy: But you didn’t die. Ashley Babbitt died.
Four of Trump's protesters died on the day of the riot. A police officer died the next day of a stroke. In the days following the riot, one of Trump's protesters and two police officers committed suicide.
The physical appearance and aggressive behavior of some of Trump's protesters are reminiscent of scenes in Night Of The Living Dead when people were trying to protect themselves from a mob of goons. It was sufficiently devastating to two police officers that they committed suicide.
Leaks from the White House say that the optics-obsessed Trump didn't like the way his rioters looked on TV. They weren't exactly the photogenic type. Some looked like those who auditioned for the cast of goons for Night Of The Living Dead but were rejected... because they were too ugly.
McCarthy gave Fanone the cold shoulder when he met him. McCarthy said he would bring up the issues Fanone raised but in private.
I just don't know how people like McCarthy can sleep at night. I guess the rush from power is like heroin.
'It is a pathetic excuse': Police officer rebukes Trump's defense of the Capitol rioters excerpt: "Gonell responded, "It was upsetting. It is a pathetic excuse for his behavior for something that he himself helped to create — this monstrosity. I'm still recovering from those hugs and kisses that day.""
Really too bad that Gym Jordan is not there on this committee. It would be exquisite to see that fool squirm like the worm he is trying to justify / lie / deny and try to blame BLM, democrats, Antifa, etc---and you know he would.
2 Capitol rioters plead guilty while House hearing unfolds; judge calls their behavior 'reprehensible' - KESQ excerpt: "A married couple who stormed the US Capitol on January 6 and later downplayed the level of violence pleaded guilty on Tuesday in federal court, where a judge pledged to use the case to send a message that their behavior was “reprehensible.” The plea hearing for the two Donald Trump supporters, Lori and Thomas Vinson of Kentucky, took place while the select committee hearing about the attack was underway in the House of Representatives. The Vinsons, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of demonstrating in the Capitol. This has become the standard deal that the Justice Department has offered to nonviolent rioters. The charge carries a potential maximum sentence of six months in jail, though they’ll likely get less than that, and could even receive probation and avoid incarceration. As part of the plea agreement, both agreed to pay $500 in restitution for damage done to the Capitol. Judge Reggie Walton said he will weigh what sort of sentence will send a message to the public that this type of “reprehensible” behavior won’t be tolerated. “It’s very troubling to me that a group of Americans will do what happened that day. It made us an embarrassment,” Walton said during the hearing. “I teach in various countries and I’m always touting the greatness of America. It’s going to be difficult for me to convince people in other parts of the world that we are that shining light upon a hill because of what happened that day.”"
Another Trump rioter arrested. He appeared in various photos with Mastriano of PA who wants an audit of the PA election and who is threatening subpoenas. Trumper Who Wore ‘Back The Blue’ Shirt To Rally Arrested For Assaulting Officers On Jan. 6 | HuffPost excerpt: "Federal authorities have arrested a Donald Trump supporter caught on video bragging about macing police at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Samuel Lazar, who was arrested in Pennsylvania on Monday, spent the months after the Capitol attack attending political events in support of the former president and his political allies. The case against him was unsealed on Tuesday. Lazar faces felony charges, including assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers as well as obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder. He also faces a charge of knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds. Lazar has been featured in at least half a dozen photos with Doug Mastriano, a Pennsylvania state senator who helped spread Trump’s lies about a stolen election and even chartered buses to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 using campaign cash. Mastriano and Lazar were pictured together on numerous occasions before the Capitol attack and were most recently photographed posing together at an event for Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani in May (at that time, Lazar’s photograph was featured on the FBI’s website)."
