Lawyers retreat from pro-Trump election suit

    excerpt:

"The City of Detroit, which intervened as a defendant in the suit to defend the election results, triggered the sanctions process about six months ago by complaining that the case was frivolous and littered with untruths. The city’s motions asked Parker to impose monetary penalties on the lawyers in the case, to require them to pay the attorneys’ fees of the city and other defendants in the case, and to refer the lawyers for potential disbarment proceedings.

An attorney for the city, Herschel Fink, said the initial filing in the case was garbled and unprofessional.

“What they filed in the first complaint in this case was an embarrassment to the legal profession,” Fink said. “It was sloppy. It was unreadable and it was mocked.”

In a motion last December urging punishment of Powell, Wood and others, the city’s legal team wrote: “If sanctions are not deserved in this case, it is hard to imagine a case where they would be.”

“In a case involving the election of the President of the United States, the parties and their attorneys should be held to the highest standards of factual and legal due diligence; instead, they have raised false allegations and pursued unsupportable legal theories,” the city argued. “It is time for this Court to send a message back: lies and frivolous claims will not be tolerated. This abuse of our legal system deserves the strongest possible sanctions.”"

Unlike 90% of the US, Seattle actually has something that resembles politics. Those police officers knew damned well they were crossing the line.

"THE VOTING SYSTEM COMPANIES HAVE DENIED THE VARIOUS ALLEGATIONS MADE BY PRESIDENT TRUMP..."

So basically they're saying the voting system companies, not Fox News, deny them. Nice way to walk that thin line.

Trump and Giuliani haven't been seen together in public for a while.

Trump seemed to have lost interest after the feds raided Giuliani's apartment in late April.

Banker Sought Trump Cabinet Job With Manafort Loans, U.S. Says

    excerpt:

"A Chicago banker “hungry for power” traded $16 million in bank loans to Paul Manafort for the chance at a top Trump administration post, a prosecutor told jurors at the end of a federal bribery trial in Manhattan.

Stephen Calk wanted to be former President Donald Trump’s treasury secretary, defense secretary or a top ambassador and approved the loans to Manafort, then Trump’s campaign chief, with that goal in mind, federal prosecutor Paul Monteleoni said in closing arguments on Monday.

“Calk was the one with the money,” Monteleoni said. “What Manafort offered to Calk was the chance to use some of that money to buy power.”

The founder and longtime chief executive of Federal Savings Bank, Calk is charged with financial institution bribery and with conspiring with Manafort, who was “desperate for money,” Monteleoni said.

Calk denies the charges and blames Manafort for lying about his finances to win the loans. The defense will give its closing argument later on Monday, and the jury could begin deliberations by day’s end."

We'll ready the Bankers' suite at Sing Sing for you, Mr. Calk. Cucumber water, or citrus infused?

Goofy just declared war on anti-trusts, and if they start locking up all the bankers, they'll have to first pardon the nonviolent pot offenders, and make room for them. How much do you want to bet, US courts have become reality TV, and part of the greatest show on earth!

Damn!! The American people can tolerate the usual amount of rigging in favor of the rich / well connected---but this trump crime family and anyone connected to them / honoring them --has relinquished any claim on having an iota of morals / scruples / common sense -- at all!!! The curtain has been pulled back on republican / right wing thought and what's revealed is NOT PRETTY!!!

It's been difficult, especially for us that have been around for decades and decades , to imagine a wastrel, a consummate liar, a life long con man crooked in every way, a guy who was gifted vast amounts of money, who constantly failed at business dealings with that money, who has never done an honest days work in his life, who has raised his own children to be as crooked as he is-----to --right in front of everyone in the world---continue to insist that he won an election that he clearly did not win!!! The dumb and dumber will follow this evil fuckhead to wherever he wants them to be led--that's now obvious. We've not heard the last of his gun toting sycophants at all. Or the legislators in thrall to his base of ignoramuses. Or the danger to a society free of those that would welcome authoritarian rule against those with whom they vehemently disagree.

Wood and Powell are talking like they aren't even sure how Wood's name was put on the suit as a plaintiff.

Once again, they are proving their incompetence to the judge.

Lawyers retreat from pro-Trump election suit

    excerpt:

“I played absolutely no role in the drafting of the complaint, just to be clear,” Wood told Parker. “I did not review any of the documents with respect to the complaint. My name was placed on there, but I had no involvement.”

Parker asked Wood directly whether he’d given permission for his name to be placed on the suit.

“I do not specifically recall being asked about the Michigan complaint, but I had generally indicated to Sidney Powell that if she needed a quote-unquote trial lawyer, I would certainly be willing or available to help her,” Wood said. “Would I have objected to being included by name? I don’t believe so.”

Under questioning from the judge, Powell said she believed she did get Wood’s consent to put his name on the suit. “I can’t imagine I would ever put his name on any pleading without understanding that he had given me permission to do that,” she said. “Might there have been a misunderstanding? It’s certainly possible.”

He can't seem to get her off the brain,

I Never thought I'd say this but Michael Cohen, Trump's former attorney and longtime fix-it man is the only person to grow a spine over the past few years.

WASHINGTON — A Northwest D.C. man rejected a plea offer from the government on Monday – setting him up to go to trial on a dozen counts in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot.

Mark Ponder was indicted in March on 12 counts, including assaulting federal officers using a dangerous weapon and obstruction of an official proceeding. Federal investigators say Ponder used a metal pole to repeatedly assault officers attempting to hold the line at the West Terrace on January 6.

In court documents, the Justice Department says Ponder was arrested during the riot, but was released when the arresting officers were needed to reinforce other parts of the Capitol complex. Investigators says Ponder left the Capitol temporarily, but came back two hours later.

Ponder was taken back into custody on March 17, and has remained in pretrial detention since then.
