    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...umps-case-explained/?variant=116ae929826d1fd3

    excerpt:

"Often, people being accused in such cases aren’t aware they’re the subject of a grand jury investigation. But in some cases, the person being investigated can choose to testify before the grand jury, though they’re not required to. They’re allowed to bring their lawyer — but the lawyer can be present only during their testimony and doesn’t get to sit in on the jury during the rest of the investigation.

That means Trump could, in theory, testify behind closed doors to a grand jury, with his lawyer present. But lawyers in these situations aren’t allowed to ask questions, object to proceedings or address the jury in any way. It would seemingly be a risky gambit to allow Trump — notorious for his long-winded, sometimes ranting defenses of his own conduct — to freely testify before a grand jury and a prosecutor who has been investigating him for several years.

The jury could also ask Vance to call people in Trump’s orbit or those who work for the Trump Organization as witnesses. In that case, testimony becomes compulsory because witnesses are issued a subpoena."

The republicans will argue that Sicknick’s mother, and Mr. Fanone are too emotionally involved to make rational comments.

Trump should represent himself. He knows more about law than any lawyer.

Oath Keepers respond to Capitol riot lawsuit, say they didn't interrupt Congress' duties

The Oath Keepers argued that the Constitution and federal law do not specify what individual House members are to do when the electoral votes are counted. Therefore, they had no formal role or official conduct that could be the target of interference, the lawyers said.

Ha, ha, ha...that's like trying to argue, "your honor, yes he tried to knock-over a liquor store but there was no money in the cash register, so technically he didn't rob the store"

If they lose another 2 - 3% it's significant. Little by little we're chipping away at it.

Ohio suspect in U.S. Capitol riot arrested in Huntsville

    excerpt:

"An Ohio man was arrested in Huntsville on Wednesday for crimes related to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Kenneth Joseph Owen Thomas, 38, of East Liverpool, Ohio, is charged with federal offenses that include assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers; obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder; and engaging in physical violence on Capitol grounds, among other charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice

Thomas made his initial court appearance in the Northern District of Alabama on Wednesday.

According to court documents, Thomas was on the Upper West Terrace at 4:22 p.m. where he was captured on Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) body-worn camera (BWC) footage advancing toward a line of law enforcement and pushing against their shields."

Hundreds of Trump's rioters have been arrested by the FBI and still no Antifa arrested. Trump's supporters have contended that the violent part of the riot at the Capitol was done by Antifa.

The closest that Trump's supporters have come is to cite a person who filmed the Capitol riot and who was also at a BLM protest.

Even that person was a carpetbagger. He filmed BLM protests. When those simmered down at the end of summer he turned his attention to Trump's supporters who were protesting and rioting.

Rep. Clyde describes it as a routine tourist event at the Capitol.

Ohio suspect in U.S. Capitol riot arrested in Huntsville

    excerpt:

"Images and video taken at the Capitol show Foy attacking officers guarding the doors. The scene is chaotic, graphic, and brutal. Rioters hurled projectiles at the officers and physically assaulted them, often using weapons like poles, bottles, and in Foy’s case, a hockey stick. Several officers were dragged into the crowd, stripped of their protective gear, and beaten. Other rioters used crowbars and other tools to knock the windows out of the Capitol so rioters could enter. At one point, before the worst of the melee began, Foy threw what appears to be a sharpened pole at the officers," attorneys argued in the filing.

This BULLSHIT from the "party" that claims to be all about "law & order" and "the rule of law." And then they have the festering, decayed B-A-L-L-S to accuse Dems of playing politics!!!!

Don't worry folks ............. the REPUBLICAN PARTY won't let ethics, morals, or a "sense of right and wrong" get in the way of their political ambitions to turn the U.S.A. from a democracy into an autocratic, fascist, dictatorship. We should all view them as jack-booted Hitler-disciples .............. because they are ACTING in the same seditious, counter-democracy fashion as the takeover in Nazi Germany.

How - in the name of GOD - can anyone support the insurrection, or look the other way (and hope the publicity goes away) when violent, insurrectionist, terrorists storm our U.S. Capitol ............ and then "claim" to be about "the rule of law" and our U.S. Constitution?????

ANYONE ............ repeat - ANYONE - who supported the insurrection and it's denial / cover-up .............. should be thrown in prison for a minimum of 25 years - no parole. This is a bold-faced attempt to overthrow our freely and fairly elected government - and our Constitutionally guaranteed form of democracy. WTF does it take to constitute a crime against the U.S. Government???

This is EXACTLY why any country MUST HAVE at least 2 political parties, - probably more - to avoid a complete takeover and power-grab by any one party - resulting in autocratic dictatorships. Do any of us want our country to be like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Belarus, Syria, Afghanistan, or any such single-person, 100% total rule over all the people and ALL the laws???? Those countries' rulers stifle, imprison, or KILL any & all dissenters & political opponents / challengers.

This is what Trump and THE REPUBLICAN PARTY attempted / are attempting to accomplish by spreading lies and conspiracy propaganda about so-called "election fraud." It's to infect .............. yes - INFECT ............. the population with doubts about the fairness of our elections now and going forward. The majority of the population in the U.S. (proven by several Presidential elections in the POPULAR VOTE) has rejected REPUBLICAN IDEOLOGY and it's "rich-person / corporate welfare" pampering in favor of DEMOCRATIC, ALL- PEOPLE - GET -THE - SAME -TREATMENT goals.

Other Trump rioters from Michigan who have been arrested.

    https://www.wxyz.com/news/brownstow...n-connection-to-riots-insurrection-at-capitol

    excerpt:

"A Taylor man, 25-year-old Jeramiah Caplinger, was charged with violent entry and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds.

James Allen Mels, 56, from Shelby Township, was arrested and charged with one count of Knowingly entertaining or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds.

Michael Foy, a former Marine from Wixom, was also arrested and charged for allegedly hitting a police officer at least 10 times with a hockey stick during the riots. He was arrested in January due to publicly shared video, photos and a Facebook page belonging to his father.

Foy “swung and appears to have struck officers with his hockey stick no fewer than 10 times,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Hank Moon said in a court filing Sunday."

Believe me, Scratcho, - I take no pleasure in pointing out what should SURELY seem obvious to all U.S. citizens. Anyone who paid attention in civics class ought to see what Trump and his LEMMING MINIONS have been - and are still - attempting do do in our country. Anyone who's a student of world history, and especially since the year 1900, should PLAINLY see what is happening here in the U.S. Those people who say, "Oh - that'll never happen HERE" should take a very close look at world history since 1900, and take an even closer look at what's been transpiring here in the U.S.A. in the last 20 years. The people in those countries that succumbed to autocratic dictators probably thought it would never happen there either.

"Laissez-faire" (hands-off) attitudes toward governments is just handing the reigns over to someone only too eager to abuse that power. History continues to repeat itself. The U.S.A is NOT IMMUNE to autocratic pursuers. If the violent / deadly insurrection at our U.S. Capitol isn't proof of an attempt at autocracy, I don't know what could convince anyone.

I agree erofant. I take no -pleasure in realizing the offhand, casual and startling way that so many citizens are disregarding the abuses of power that could actually bring this country into the realm of autocracy / dictatorship. By the people, for the people is not a credo that the current right wing / republican faction of our political scene recognizes any longer. We are not out of "the woods " yet by any means. I love the fact that people from every country in the world have come here seeking that which every human desires--a fair shot at establishing a decent life for themselves and their families. The idea of America and those results of most migrants reaching our shores have been upheld. The struggle for native Americans and black and brown folks to achieve equity of treatment is and has been a long and hard struggle. But progress had been made, albeit with not much help from the right in our political scene. The current edition of the right wing , as can be seen daily ,has not only set those moral struggles back, but has proven that when it comes to maintaining a democracy ,as much as it has been twisted to favor the super rich, they could not care less as long as they retain power. They write the laws that favor the rich, and the corporations and then harvest the money as quid pro quo to gain and stay in office. That's obviously why so many republicans are deathly afraid of offending a wastrel like trump ---the money could dry up and the 74 million trump cultists could vote them out of those cushy jobs.

The fact that these spineless cowards are still in love with trump and elect nut cases like MTG, Boebert, et al means to me--that they will do ANYTHING to stay in power up to and including allowing and abetting the establishment of a fascist, authoritarian government. ---------------What if next time , an insurrection includes 1000 morons with 1000 guns??
