Plus, I could care less who sees me naked or what they might think. It's the legal consequences I'm concerned about. They'll either deem you mentally unstable and confine you for analysis, or charge you with a serious crime of a sexual assault nature resulting in jail time and registry with sexual offender. Free country, indeed! It's okay to peacefully protest with burning and looting though, as long as a violent criminal died as a result of trying to fight off the police. Interesting times...
Since this has been brought up, while enjoying the environment in the nude don't draw attention to yourself. If you need to cover up just do it and continue on like you are supposed to be there. Don't stand there looking like a deer in the headlights. I've been out in the neighborhood early mornings and haven't covered as a car passed by. Just didn't get the wrap on. Oh well. I got caught, maybe. Like I reasoned earlier what are they probably looking for as they are driving down a dark street. Not some nude guy walking along. I remember one time I was driving while nude, in the rain, and missed the turn getting stuck in mud a few blocks from the house. I had no cover with me and ended up hiking back to the house, in the rain, totally naked and pissed. At least I didn't get my clothes soaking wet.
I completely agree with the sentiments expressed above and when I’m nude hiking, I am completely nonchalant about my nudity and have never had a problem of any type. Folks are even friendlier than normal, I find. But something freaks me out about approaching vehicles when I’m nude ... something I just have to get over I guess. If ever caught during my middle of the night walks, I suppose I could just play it off like I’m sleepwalking. Anyway, in my state “exposure of a person” absent any lewdness or sexual connotation is a very low grade offense. Would be a non-custodial arrest in the worst case scenario.
Yeah, fuck yeah, if I wasn't worried about what the justice system would do to me for being out and about naked, I would definitely take advantage of that situation!
Y'all shoulda seen me in Cuba - I took two pairs of shorts, one white and one black, that showed the head and veins on the outside of the fabric, plus everything inside when backlit. I also shortened the legs for easy access and visibility. When I'd raise one knee above my waist I'd hang out the other leg. I'd often sit in places where everything was visible just inside the wide leg opening. And I took only those two so couldn't be tempted to put on something more opaque. I figured I could feign ignorance if ever called out on it. While I definitely got noticed a lot, the reactions were either favorable or neutral, never bad. I use the same shorts going out here sometimes. I was shopping when a police officer came the other way. My first thoughts were omg they called the cops on me. But he looked and I was like hey how's it going. Turned out he was just shopping, too. He didn't show any concern for my minimal attire. Just another guy out trying to make ends meet.
^^^ Love that, Tundra! Still thinking out the kilt part of it as suggested by Barry. Have been obsessing about it all day actually. On one hand, it would take the whole legal complications variable out of the equation. Very logical solution. But it would also take out the whole thrill of possibly getting caught variable ... which is definitely a thing. A very important consideration, to be sure. I mean, I’m not going to stop doing it. I realize that. It’s just a question of how I choose to manage it. Lots to consider.
Tore down my raised bed garden. 18'x 24". Garage door sections. The others are going to be torn down as well. It looked too industrial for my naked hippie self. It needs to flow,be more natural. The Orange Devil kept me company today.Six more gardens to go.
I get it, balance risk vs adventure. Where to situate on the safe-to-fun continuum. If I push it, it'll be more fun, but if I push it too far and fuck up, that will be the least fun. That can apply to most anything in life. As I envisioned you out walking, I morphed to me riding motorcycle. My take on the nude in public thing, where your overlords have declared that you will be punished if you go around acting as if nudity were a completely natural state of being, where they don't want their women to be able to see that other men's dicks are larger than theirs, let's pretend and call that "civilization" -- just one of the multitude of freedoms we give up in order to be protected -- well, we're here... And we're not fighting to get more freedoms within this framework of protection (in fact most people are trying to do the exact opposite by pushing for enacting more and more restrictions on people, usually on people doing things they themselves are unable or afraid to do, inventing "reasons" they hope sound believable to those not directly involved) so since we're accepting being a part of this community then we owe it to those we live around to give due respect to the established laws. That doesn't mean I'm against "bending" the laws, but I try to keep it within the limit of elasticity. I'm a "spirit of the law" kinda guy; many others are "letter of the law" types. They're masked up out in an open area when nobody is within shouting distance. Maybe they're busy too busy to think; I shouldn't judge. But it illustrates what we're working with. People like that are intolerant of individual thought and choice, you are to simply do as you're told and follow the rules. But even these rigid rule followers (beware of them) know people aren't perfect and can have accidents, especially if they tend to be scatterbrained, which opens the door to letting people in public see us naked, with relative impunity, as long as we appear viably unintentional and unaware. The real problem faces us when we blatantly disregard the established laws and expectations with no regard for them, thumbing our nose and challenging authority. I hope that helps you figure it out.
So I sit nude in the backyard pool area on a perfect late spring evening as midnight approaches. 73 degrees or so with a light breeze and a hint of humidity in the air. No plans for a nude walk tonight. Just gonna sit and enjoy some wine and snacks. Really enjoyed Tundra’s post above and will respond to a bit of it. I find the simple illegality of nudity to be fascinating from both a human and societal point of view. As a species, we have chosen to literally make ourselves illegal. Anti-nudity laws are very similar throughout the world with some very cool exceptions ... like Vermont. There are, of course, nude beaches and resorts where nudists are free to interact with other nudists. But they are the exception. To participate in society, you must not only wear clothes but the right kind of clothes for whatever job you have. But is being naked away from official nudist areas actually illegal in itself? Are my nude neighborhood walks unlawful? I would argue no. It is not the act of being nude in a public place that is illegal; it is the act of been seen by someone who may take offense at the sight of a naked human body that is unlawful. My nude neighborhood walks are perfectly legal whether they last for 100 yards or two miles ... as long as nobody sees me. Perhaps that’s where part of my instinct to dive for the trees at the sight of an approaching car originates. If I act nonchalant and allow myself to be seen, it is in that moment that I cross the barrier from legal activity to a prosecutable offense. Also, consider this. Would lawmakers of today write the same anti-nudity laws that are generations old but remain on the books unchanged? I think not. If there were forced to be open debate on statehouse floors with representatives from the AANR and other pro-nudist organizations allowed to present arguments, I think it would be hard to find a simple majority agreeing that the human body is offensive and should therefore be illegal. There is much greater acceptance of human nudity today than say 100 years ago when all of these Puritanical anti-nudity laws were written. But that’s not where we are. We are instead in a place where we nudists need to create enough energy to overturn anti-nudity laws ... which is a massive undertaking. Difficult but not impossible. In my lifetime, both gay marriage and marihuana usage have shifted from banned to accepted by society at large. So there is hope. At least a little. Back now to my naked poolside relaxation.
I was thinking marijuana when reading that but then you hit on it at the end. I definitely think we should challenge the "lewdness" of being naked in public, but it'll be a long, arduous ride due to the psychological conditioning from generation to generation. And people's insecurities with their own bodies. The motivations for these two laws we're comparing is different. Nudity has to do with comparison to others and marijuana has to do with money. We sometimes hear things like nobody wants to see all these imperfect bodies, but I think that the reality is that those people don't want to see prime bodies because then they tend to feel bad about their own. Plus there's no pressure by anyone to disrobe if it's illegal, so they can comfortably hide in their clothes. Marijuana was effectively demonized by a large corporate entity which developed an alternative to hemp rope, and wanted to dominate the industry. The patent has since run out so the pressure is off. The damage was done but we're overcoming it. As a person who spotted hypocrisy from childhood and noted how most people follow the herd like sheep, I've always been a non-conformist. It doesn't make me popular but I'm true to myself. I have always pushed back on proper and faddish dressing, and the older I grew the more I focused on comfort and practicality over "style". I've known people whose motto is "la moda no incomoda" which I've found patently false. (the current style doesn't cause discomfort) There's plenty examples of things in style being uncomfortable. It's a psychological trick to avoid feeling stupid about blending in with the masses. 73 at midnight in May in the NE... Thanks Mr Jetstream! Looks like a toasty one later today.
Laws in the United States concerning nudity in public and if it relates to indecent exposure or disorderly conduct are quite varied from state to state. Even from locality to locality within the state the laws vary widely. The Supreme Court ruled that public nudity cannot be protected under the Freedom of Expression claim within the First Amendment. States have the right to govern themselves and the determination of public nudity versus indecent exposure is left up the them. Certainly sexual activity in public is illegal throughout the country but states differ on where the line is drawn between simple nudity and indecency. There are states that must prove a defendants motive was clearly intended to cause shock, offense, or sexual gratification. Vermont does not prohibit nudity in public. But does not allow open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior. So if you were caught walking along the sidewalk at 3 am you might not be arrested. Then if you're seen touching your genitals in any manner that may be considered lascivious behavior and put you behind bars wrapped in a blanket. California requires proof that the defendant acted willfully and lewdly except that only applies when the defendant intended to arouse themselves or another person. How is that proven when seen walking along the sidewalk at 3 am? I'm not going to challenge it though. Other states follow the same line and some require just being nude for a violation to exist. Now, could it be that the act of being nude is determined to be disorderly conduct? An individual who is naked in public with no unlawful intent may still violate the law. In some states, Texas for one, conduct laws when public exposure of the genitals where anyone would be offended or alarmed by the sight apply. So, if he or she is considered to cause a public disturbance, then arrests can be made for such a violation. Where I live there is no law against nudity in public. But like other states there are statutes where nudity borders on other points where violations can occur. Since that is the case there is still a risk that being naked outdoors will cause you to have to answer charges that may be brought against you. I think I'll still carry my cover with me when I go for an early morning walk like I did this morning.
I concur. I have it on supposedly good authority that there's a public park in Austin where nudity is allowed. I don't know that for certain, though.
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I just know that general societal intolerance towards nudity has backed me into a corner where my only options based on existing laws and life circumstances are to either “go out walking after midnight” or hiking in Vermont where it’s legal. If fellow nudists want to tell me I’m somehow doing it wrong, then fine. You do you and I’ll do me. Had a good nude walk after all last night. Cheers.
There is. It's on Lake Travis west of Austin. The park is called Hippie Hollow. It is open to nude sunbathing for persons 18 and older. Children are not permitted in the park area where nudity is allowed.
I missed something. Did anyone say you're doing anything wrong? What are we disagreeing about? You're sane, conscientious, and prudent (or so it seems) so manage your own risk/reward profile. I see people offering useful information to help with that, but if there's been any judgement then it wasn't evident to me. Anyway I'm happy to hear you're enjoying your walks. And would never knowingly presume to tell you what to do or how to do it. ☮️
I was filling up at the gas station when a passing car did a double toot. I looked around to see what at and nothing, then I realized. I was leaning way over my car to wash the entire windshield from one side and had extended my outer leg for counterbalance. I then realized that the raised leg had lifted my shorts up and with me leaning so far I was totally exposed in the direction of the road. Well, I made sure that windshield was doubly clean just in case I missed something. No additional honks though.
i took a bike ride on some trails that lead to a small beach on the bay. It looked like I had the place to myself so I quickly stripped off and walked to the water's edge naked. Started to wade out then noticed a guy fishing only about twenty yards away just around a slight curve in the beach. No idea who was more surprised but I stayed and ended up going for a swim. He left about a half hour later and we chatted as he walked passed. Finally I dressed and rode back out!
