The goal of Trump and the Republicans was to first reduce Biden's electoral votes to less than 270 via objections to a sufficient number of electoral votes of states that Biden won (the process that was occurring in Congress as Trump's insurrection was unfolding on January 6). That would invoke a process whereby state legislatures would determine the winner of the presidential election, with one electoral vote per state.

Since there are more states controlled by Republican legislatures than Democrat, Trump could potentially have been elected president for a second term by the state legislatures.

Trump was attempting this type of maneuver before formal objections to the electoral votes were raised in Congress on January 6. He met with state legislators Shirkey and Chatfield of MI at the White House to try to pressure them to have their legislatures cast their own slate of electors (for Trump) instead of those determined by the public votes (which would have required MI state laws to be altered because they don't permit such a maneuver).

His pressure call to Raffensperger of GA was even more blunt. He tried to convince Raffensperger to outright give him another 12,000 votes out of nowhere so that he could win the state.

That was after GA had already certified its electoral votes and the Electoral College had already voted weeks earlier. It shows Trump's desperation.

It was a foolish desperation because it was futile and put Trump at risk for criminal prosecution. It invoked a criminal probe of him in GA.

Yeah, I know every criminal ever prosecuted could make that same argument.

Well judge you see if you don’t release me from jail for robbing that bank, my wife will have to get a job or go on welfare to support our two children.
And btw I’m sorry for the bank guard who was shot during the commission of the crime.

This kind of delusional thinking goes to the very essence of white privilege.

They really can't wrap their brains around the fact that they did something wrong and illegal.

Yes, it's sort of like "We invaded your country so we can liberate you, if you like it or not."

If the judge allows this(I don’t think he will), it sets a precedent.
I think incarcerated POC would have an excellent chance of getting out of jail.

Trump once again provides evidence that he is delusional.

Trump says his supporters were 'hugging and kissing the police' during the 'zero threat' Jan. 6 Capitol siege

Trump says his supporters were 'hugging and kissing the police' during the 'zero threat' Jan. 6 Capitol siege

    excerpt:

"Former President Donald Trump on Thursday night presented a sunny view of the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, an event that left five people dead and led to Trump's second impeachment trial for fomenting an insurrection.

"It was zero threat, right from the start, it was zero threat," Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. "Look, they went in. They shouldn't have done it. Some of them went in and they're hugging and kissing the police and the guards. You know, they had great relationships. A lot of the people were waved in, and then they walked in and they walked out. ... They're persecuting a lot of those people. And some of them should be — some things should happen to them," he conceded, adding that, in his opinion, far-left anti-fascists are getting off easy in comparison."

Video shows that officer Goodman distracted the group of protesters and led them up to a higher floor. They became preoccupied with him and didn't notice that they had passed the entrance to the Senate chamber where Mike Pence and the senators were located. Pence was ushered out by Secret Service near the time when the protesters passed the entrance door.

Huffington Post political reporter Igor Bobi happened to be near Goodman and recorded the video.

And if rioters did make it in there, I wonder if Mike Pence would have a change of view of the whole situation from his hospital bed(possibly his death bed)- would he STILL support Trump?!!

Black men are commonly reporting they avoid public places. They are 8x more likely to be thrown in prison, and after half a century of being stomped on in every way imaginable, the cops are ready to make it official.
