FBI pinpoints a single suspect in the death of US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick

    excerpt:

"Sicknick was among the Capitol Police officers who defended the US Capitol against a pro-Trump mob on January 6. He succumbed to injuries sustained during the riot a day later, on January 7.

Officials initially said Sicknick was struck by a fire extinguisher, but later said there was no evidence to suggest that he died from blunt force trauma. Federal investigators then launched a probe to look into whether bear spray - a chemical irritant used by rioters during the insurrection - could instead have played a role in Sicknick's death.

After questioning dozens of people, investigators zeroed in on a single suspect after a video showed the individual using bear spray on other officers, law enforcement officials told The Times. Another video also showed the suspect discussing plans to assault officers with bear spray, according to one of the officials."

Can you do commentary on Yahoo articles? I haven't been able to do that since before the election.

Some of the posts by Trump supporters in the Yahoo news comments section after the 2020 election became extreme. Their frustration and anger was obvious. It gave the impression that an event like the riot at the Capitol might occur.

On various forums after the election, pro-Trump trolls who hadn't been active for a while showed up with a vengeance. They continued to reappear with new accounts after being banned repeatedly.

On a lighter note, a few posters who had been pro-Trump changed their minds about Trump after the Capitol riot. They're comparable to the small minority of Republicans in DC who publicly show a sense of ethics and appeal to the rule of law and who opposed Trump's behavior.

Golden Trump statue turning heads at CPAC was made in … Mexico

    excerpt:

"Now the artist behind the huge statue of Trump – Tommy Zegan – has revealed that the object was made in Mexico; a country that has been the target of much Trump racist abuse over his political career, and somewhere he has literally sought to build a wall against.

“It was made in Mexico,” Zegan told Politico’s Playbook newsletter. Zegan, who lives in Mexico on a permanent resident visa, described the transport of the monument to CPAC in full to Playbook.

Politico reported: “Zegan spent over six months crafting the 200lb fiberglass statue with the help of three men in Rosarito. He transported it to Tampa, Florida, where it was painted in chrome, then hauled it from there to CPAC.”"

Opinion | The simple legal strategy Trump is using to avoid criminal charges

    excerpt:

"The possible consequences of this Justice Department policy are disturbing: a sitting or former president would escape prosecution for any crime whose statute of limitations expired during his term as president. A president who serves a four-year term would be absolved of many criminal acts; a president who serves two four-year terms would escape criminal liability for almost any crime committed before or during his first presidential term.

The state of New York has taken common sense action to remedy this problem with respect to potential state prosecutions of former presidents. On Feb. 10, the New York state Legislature passed the “New York No Citizen is Above the Law Act,” sponsored by the Senate's Deputy Majority Leader Michael Gianaris. The new law provides that if a former president is charged with a New York state crime, the amount of time he was president is excluded from the calculation of the statute of limitations. Whether this law can apply to criminal conduct that predated the law’s passage remains to be seen, but there is a sound argument that it can be applied if the statute of limitations had not yet expired when the act was passed. This is why these laws must be passed as soon as possible."

I’m sure there’s a few voodoo dolls of him somewhere too, like in Haiti or somewhere he deemed to be a “shithole country” when he first got elected.

Former actor from Dallas identified as person wielding crutch at Capitol riot.

Former TV Actor Identified by FBI as Man Wielding Crutch During Capitol Riot

    excerpt:

"A former actor from Dallas has been charged on multiple counts for his participation in the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Luke Coffee, 41, has been identified by the FBI as the man photographed wielding a crutch as a weapon near the entrance of the Lower Terrace tunnel, the Daily Beast reported Friday.

A rep for Coffee did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

According to an FBI statement obtained by Deadline, Coffee allegedly "used a crutch to assault police officers from the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department" and was caught doing so in numerous photos and videos, including multiple police body cams.

The complaint said that Coffee was identified by people who know him, including a former college classmate who happens to now be an FBI Special Agent."
