It's not an objective experiment of the medicare system because there is no control group for comparison. But Trump managed to pressure SIGIS to approve it.

It's a way of skirting Congress by conducting a supposed objective experiment which is needed to tap into the Medicare trust fund.

The panel had come under pressure from the White House and Treasury Department to support the plan. After weeks of appeals from the administration, it did so Monday — stunning even some officials who were involved with the plan and believed the panel wouldn't budge.

“I am shocked,” said one person who had been briefed on SIGIS’ prior concerns and concluded that the cards were a nonstarter.

Representatives for SIGIS did not respond to a request for comment. Officials from the White House, Treasury Department and Medicare did not respond to requests for comment."


"This is an incredibly bad policy," said Stacie Dusetzina, a Vanderbilt University health policy professor who studies drug costs. "It is not a real or valid experiment, and we will learn nothing new from it."

 

Trump has been making last gasp efforts to cripple the ACA and damage his forgotten people who depend on such a program, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

In that regard, he hasn't completely forgotten his forgotten people.

They also wouldn’t have access to impartial advisers, so-called navigators, to assist them in making their choices.

Trump failed to kill President Barack Obama’s signature law in Congress, but is still attempting to do so in a case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court last month. "Crede Bailey, who heads the White House security office, lost part of his lower right leg, including his foot, and a toe of his left foot during a months-long battle with COVID-19, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

Bailey, whose office handles White House credentials and works with the Secret Service, contracted the coronavirus in September. He's been hospitalized for three months but is said to be recovering from the illness.

Friends of Bailey's have raised more than $35,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his rehabilitation and healthcare.

"Crede beat COVID-19 but it came at a significant cost: his big toe on his left foot as well as his right foot and lower leg had to be amputated," Dawn McCrobie, who organized the fundraiser, wrote in an update last week."

Bailey is an example of people who survive the coronavirus but are left with permanent morbidity and continuing high healthcare cost. Other survivors have had their lungs permanently damaged by the coronavirus.

Their long term compromised condition can go unnoticed when perusing cursory coronavirus data. They are listed as recovered and don't show up in the near-term death count. The possible shortened life spans won't manifest until later. A ripple of excess morbidity is expected to propagate from 2020 onward and further strain an already strained healthcare system that Trump has sabotaged.

The electoral college vote transpired peacefully. No electors defected.

“It is unacceptable for political candidates to treat our election system as though we are a third-world nation and incite distrust of something so basic as the sanctity of our vote,” Representative Paul Mitchell of Michigan wrote in a letter to Ronna McDaniel, the Republican National Committee chairwoman, and Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the party’s top House leader.

Mr. Mitchell, a member of his party’s leadership who is retiring, released the letter shortly after his state cast its 16 electoral votes for Mr. Biden. He wrote that he was leaving the Republican Party over its refusal to accept Mr. Trump’s defeat, and warned that his colleagues were risking “long-term harm to our democracy.”

“If Republican leaders collectively sit back and tolerate unfounded conspiracy theories and ‘stop the steal’ rallies without speaking out for our electoral process, which the Department of Homeland Security said was ‘the most secure in American history,’ our nation will be damaged,” Mr. Mitchell wrote.

 

Mr. Mitchell is being optimistic.

Nearly two-thirds of the Republicans in the U.S. House and Republican attorneys general from 18 states publicly supported Trump's truther narratives about the election. About 70% of Republicans in the general public believe him.

The damage has already been done.

Putin finally congratulates Biden on US election victory

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election Tuesday, six weeks after the vote and a day after the Electoral College officially affirmed Biden's win.

While many world leaders congratulated President-elect Biden within days of the election, the Kremlin said at the time that it deemed it "correct" to wait for the official results before Putin congratulated the winner.

 

Trump garnered $200 million from his truther narrative about the election (which isn't true) while flouting safety guidelines about the deadliness of the coronavirus (which is true). He should consider donating funds to Bailey who is a casualty of Trump's disregard for coronavirus safety measures at the White House.

Trump should consider donating the whole $200 million to coronavirus victims, considering the damage he has caused during the pandemic.

It would be better than spending the money to fund a role of being an outside Twitter troll agitator after he is out of office or to conduct a string of 'victory rallies' for a fair election he lost but thinks he won.

 

Mitch McConnell still hasn't acknowledged Biden's victory, even after the electoral college vote.

If Putin can acknowledge it, Moscow Mitch should be able to do it.
