Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to state legislators: Picking own presidential electors 'not an option'

"President Donald Trump, who lost the Nov. 3 election in Georgia by approximately 12,000 votes to Joe Biden, recently appealed to Kemp to convene a special session in hopes the Republican-controlled Legislature would designate Trump loyalists to award the state’s 16 Electoral College votes Dec. 14. When Kemp refused, Sens. Brandon Beach, Greg Dolezal, Burt Jones and William Ligon and House Reps. Colton Moore and Vernon Jones called for the special session.

Kemp told lawmakers Monday that doing so “is not an option” under Georgia law. A statute enacted in 1960 prohibits the Georgia General Assembly from choosing delegates to the Electoral College except in cases where an election cannot be held."

 

Trump thinks that the U.S. Supreme Court should overturn the election because he thinks the Biden administration will be a mess.

Supreme Court rejects bid to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory

The US Supreme Court has rejected a lawsuit backed by President Donald Trump to overturn Joe Biden's election victory.

The decision ends a desperate attempt to get legal issues rejected by state and federal judges before the nation's highest court.

The court's order was its second this week rebuffing Republican requests that it get involved in the 2020 election outcome.

The justices turned away an appeal from Pennsylvania Republicans on Tuesday.

The Electoral College meets on Monday to formally elect Mr Biden as the next president.

Mr Trump had called the lawsuit filed by Texas against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin "the big one" that would end with the Supreme Court undoing Mr Biden's substantial Electoral College majority and allow him to serve another four years in the White House.

In a brief order, the court said Texas does not have the legal right to sue those states because it "has not demonstrated a judicially cognisable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections".

Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, who have said previously the court does not have the authority to turn away lawsuits between states, said they would have heard Texas's complaint.

But they would not have done as Texas wanted pending resolution of the lawsuit, and set aside those four states' 62 electoral votes for Mr Biden.

Three Trump appointees sit on the high court.

In his push to get the most recent of his nominees, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, confirmed quickly, Mr Trump said she would be needed for any post-election lawsuits.

Justice Barrett appears to have participated in both cases this week. None of the Trump appointees noted a dissent in either case.

Eighteen other states won by Mr Trump in last month's election, 126 Republican members of Congress and Mr Trump himself joined Texas in calling on the justices to take up the case that sought to stop electors from casting their votes for Mr Biden.

The four states sued by Texas had urged the court to reject the case as meritless. They were backed by another 22 states and the District of Columbia.

Analysis: The election is over; Trump's attacks will linger

The willingness of Republicans in Texas to try to overturn results of other states after Trump's loss leaves to the imagination what would happen if a Democratic presidential candidate won Texas.

Trump is interested in another election fraud investigation like the one he tried to do in 2017 to find the alleged 3 million illegal votes that supposedly went to Hillary instead of him.



Trump inclined to tap special counsel to probe election loss to Biden

"President Trump has expressed interest in pursuing the appointment of a special counsel to investigate allegations of fraud in the November elections and issues related to Hunter Biden, according to people familiar with the matter.

In recent days, the president has directed advisers to look for people who could serve in such a position, one of the people said, as lawsuits and other efforts by Trump and his campaign to reverse the election results founder.

White House officials and allies of the president on Capitol Hill and elsewhere have also pushed for the appointment of a special counsel, another person familiar with the discussions said.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has told people that the president is interested in pursuing a special counsel to investigate election fraud and wants to act quickly, one of the people said.

Senior White House officials have also discussed the possibility of pursuing a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden, expressing frustration over Attorney General William Barr’s handling of investigations into Biden’s business and financial dealings."

 

I don't get it, In 40 days Biden can simply pardon his son.

Hypocrite for sure but you know trump will pardon his entire family and inner circle before

I agree most Trump supporters at this point don't care about Hunter Biden, they only cared when his actions could reflect poorly
upon then candidate Joe Biden.

After the electors meet on Monday and confirm Joe Biden as the next President. Look for trump to go ballistic and
continue his efforts to weaken our democracy over the next 40 days.

The Russian government couldn't have planned the last four years any better if they appointed their own candidate,
and as a matter of fact they did.

 

Last night on MSNBC they had a clip of CRUZ saying Trump is a pathological and compulsive liar who lies about everything. Ted was upset because Trump was saying on during the Republican primary that Ted was born in Canada, his father participated in the Harvey Oswald deal, and that Ted's wife thinks he is a pussy. Yes, Trump actually said that! In the next clip, they showed Trump praising Ted for being so loyal and saying "Ted is great! Ted has really come around! He's going to argue this big case in front of the Supreme Court! ..................LOL!

Trump's followers and worshipers are very upset this morning. After getting smacked and booted out of the Supreme Court; this morning, they have started to talk about leaving the Union. In Texas, legislators are calling for cession. Rush Lamebutt has been talking about the matter all this week. And really, this has been the heart throb wet dream of these Confederates for years. In 1972 they infiltrated the Republican party by marching behind Jerry Falwell all the way to Richard Nixon's White House. They did so because they were very upset about the 1964 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT. After that they started shooting and killing Black leaders. They laughed when Ronald Reagan said Black men didn't know how to walk in shoes like a white man. They got behind Trump, because they were infuriated by the fact a Black Muslim man named Obama was in the White House. They started saying they need to "Take America Back" and that meant they want to take it back from the Blacks. To appease this morbid and hate-filled voter base, Trump has told them he was opposed to taking Confederate monuments down, opposed to removing Confederate names from American military bases, opposed to reparations for Black people, opposed to Civil Rights Laws which provide equality to minorities; and, he is very much in favor of a White guy grabbing a woman by the pussy any time he takes the notion. That's what he means by Making America Great Again!
