This how democracy fails. Sewing doubt about the ballots, the press, the opposition party, the election itself. They are going to say that the election is rigged when he loses and he, his republican sycophants and the millions of his cult members won't accept the results. They will take it to the supreme court and the majority will the give him another 4 years. What in the hell has happened to this country?
And if Biden is actually installed as president and the senate remains in republican hands--it will be impossible for him to get ANYTHING done. Just as Obama faced from McConnell and the other cowards/ obstructionists.
You gotta wonder when the madness will end- it’s becoming a never ending vicious cycle with the American public left to deal with the outcome, and even having the misfortune of suffering from the outcome as well.
About the only act more sleazy that Trump could have done would have been to portray his Supreme Court pick as a feminist at a glitter show right next to the casket of Ginsburg.
It's not the type of news Trump needs in the swing state of Wisconsin for a coronavirus he is contending affects almost no one. Wisconsin cases, hospitalizations balloon – and it's not just young people USA Today Natalie Brophy September 27, 2020 COVID news: NC voting rules; mass vaccinations; WHO; NYC schools excerpt: "The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin is climbing at an alarming rate: The state health department reported another single-day record of new cases on Saturday. The 2,817 positive cases made up 22.4% test results reported by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services – anything over 5% is considered high. The average number of new daily cases over the last seven days was higher than ever Saturday at 2,012. Hospitalizations are also rising. And the increasing numbers aren't just about young people returning to schools, experts say. “The surges are in Green Bay, in northeastern Wisconsin, and there’s a little evidence of an uptick in Milwaukee,” Ajay Sethi, an epidemiology professor at the University of Wisconsin, told The Atlantic. “A lot of these counties are where older individuals live, on average.”"
Nixon resigned because of the thought of being convicted in a Senate impeachment trial. After the resignation, Ford addressed the public and said that the Constitution had worked and that the U.S. abides by rule of law, not rule of men. In today's world, McConnell would protect Nixon by not permitting evidence in a Senate trial.
In one word: Putin. This is everything the KGB wanted. They are defeating America from the inside by using Trump like a marionette. They are ruining every government agency and service to leave us without a government we could count on. This is everything Putin wanted. He is laughing his rear end off!
Short answer: Trump. The real test is yet to come. If he does lose the election and takes it to the Supreme Court, what will be the outcome? Since he's appointed three of the Justices and there would be a conservative majority, he's expecting it will be in his favor. I'm not so sure. In the past, Presidents have been surprised when their hand picked Justices have bitten the hand that fed them. Any Justice who thinks ahead will be aware that the move would de-legitimize the Court and possibly be the straw that broke the republic's back. Justice Barrett seems to be a flinty-eyed right wing Catholic ideologue, but a principled one--something Trump couldn't begin to understand. At minimum, she might do the ethical thing and recuse herself for such a decision. I'm not sure what Gorsuch would do, but I don't think it's a slam dunk. And if the Supreme Court should decide against Trump, it might give his hotheads something to think about before they take to the streets with their AR-15s.
I posted the above before Storm, but Putin might be the better answer. It's hard to separate the two of them.
We need to write letters to the top Democrats and point out that Trump's appointments were intended to corrupt out courts and government agencies and should be regarded as federal crimes against the Republic. After that, his appointments should be declared null and void on the same grounds. After that, these appointees should be removed from office. When a judge takes an appointment for the purpose of tossing out our ballots as Trump has claimed, I say it is a crime against the Republic.
Remember Mike Pence accepted a half million in donations from a butt hole sex lubricant manufacturer in his own home town.
Because of this Biden has been told not to concede. The Republicans only see that and not Trump's comments. Someone had to start this and the other guy has to defend democracy with what is perhaps the last shot at a real election in American history. Biden was a respected VP with no scandals. Trump has 4 years of corruption, sexual assault, and disrespect for American law. Gee I wonder who is the real threat to democracy?
The swing states with significant electoral votes and whose legislatures are controlled by Republicans would be the prime target for Trump if he chooses to try to overturn the results of public voting if he loses in those states to tilt the electoral college count into a win for him. The Trump campaign is reportedly planning a way to bypass the 2020 election results in key swing states John L. Dorman, Grace Panetta September 23, 2020 The Trump campaign is reportedly planning a way to bypass the 2020 election results in key swing states excerpts: "The Trump campaign is weighing a postelection strategy that would bypass the results in key swing states by installing electors who would vote for the president in the Electoral College even if he loses, The Atlantic reported. Using a rationale of baseless claims about widespread voter fraud and other irregularities with mail ballots, President Donald Trump "would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly," The Atlantic's Barton Gellman wrote, adding that "the longer Trump succeeds in keeping the vote count in doubt, the more pressure legislators will feel to act before the safe-harbor deadline expires."" "The Trump campaign's plan would focus on swing states with Republican-led legislatures, including Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, The Atlantic reported."
