Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dead at 87 By Joan Biskupic and Ariane de Vogue, CNN Updated 8:04 PM ET, Fri September 18, 2020 Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died - CNNPolitics excerpt: "Ginsburg died surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., the court said. A private interment service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Ginsburg had suffered from five bouts of cancer, most recently a recurrence in early 2020 when a biopsy revealed lesions on her liver. In a statement she said that chemotherapy was yielding "positive results" and that she was able to maintain an active daily routine. "I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam," she said in a statement in July 2020. " I remain fully able to do that." She told an audience in 2019 that she liked to keep busy even when she was fighting cancer. "I found each time that when I'm active, I'm much better than if I'm just lying about and feeling sorry for myself," she said in New York at the Yale Club at an event hosted by Moment Magazine. Ginsburg told another audience that she thought she would serve until she was 90 years old. "

Mitch McConnell Said The Senate Will Vote On Trump’s Replacement For Ruth Bader Ginsburg McConnell vowed to vote on Trump’s pick to replace Ginsburg, despite blocking a vote on Obama’s nominee before the 2016 election. Paul McLeod, BuzzFeed News Reporter Zoe Tillman, BuzzFeed News Reporter Reporting From Washington, DC Posted on September 18, 2020, at 8:59 p.m. ET Will Trump Replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg Before The Election? excerpt: "Republican nominees already hold a 5–4 majority on the Supreme Court, but replacing Ginsburg would shift the court even further to the right; justices serve lifetime appointments and can only be removed through impeachment, so the next justice could spend decades on the bench. Trump has lashed out at Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. for siding with Ginsburg and the court’s liberal wing in rulings against his administration, suggesting he would try to fill the next vacancy with a more politically reliable nominee. According to NPR, before she died, Ginsburg told her granddaughter: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”"
Trump mistakenly thinks he's the best thing that ever happened to Puerto Rico. Trump makes promises as 4 states start early voting - CNNPolitics excerpt: "Even Trump's announcement today of $13 billion for Puerto Rico to help rebuild from Hurricane Maria, which hit the island three years ago, raised suspicion about its proximity to Election Day. In his announcement of the aid, the President did not acknowledge his administration's bungled response to the deadly hurricane, instead blaming past presidential administrations and Democrats for not supplying the funding his administration provided. Trump's relationship with Puerto Rico has been strained, at best. The President reportedly considered selling the island territory after the hurricane hit. Meanwhile, Florida, a crucial swing state where recent polls show Trump and Biden neck and neck, has seen an influx of Puerto Ricans who resettled there after the hurricane decimated the island. Trump defended the move, telling reporters on Friday, "I'm the best thing that ever happened to Puerto Rico.""
We'll soon see, unfortunately, if the Dems sit still for the Republican hypocrisy and bad faith in rejecting Obama's nation 267 days before the election because "the people should decide" and rushing through Trump's nomination 46 days before the election because--they can!
Redfield stated that 6 to 9 months would be required to vaccinate people in the U.S. for a vaccine that probably won't be available before the the end of 2020. Assumptions are being made that a vaccine will be effective and safe and that the public is willing to be vaccinated during an atmosphere of suspicion created by Trump. Trump's hope is to gain a psychological advantage by having a vaccine available to the public before the election, similar to his hopes of having a rosy 4th quarter financial report that will be released in late Octiber days before the election. Another hope is Barr's 'interim report' on Durham's investigation of the investigators, which Barr is expected to release in October in spite of what he might otherwise say. Trump is also resorting to the Santa Claus tactic of delivering goodies after years of neglect, such as the recent decision to give money to Puerto Rico three years after the hurricane. Bush Sr. resorted to similar desperation approaches by making wild promises of giving out money during the 1992 election, such as to the American farmers, when polls showed him trailing Clinton significantly in an election that the incumbent Bush lost. Majority of Americans believe political pressure will cause FDA to rush a coronavirus vaccine, new poll finds - CNNPolitics excerpt: "More women than men -- 70% compared to 55% -- said they worried the FDA would rush approval of a vaccine, the poll found. If a Covid-19 vaccine was ready and available for free before the upcoming election, just over half of respondents, 54%, said they would not get one, while 42% said they would. Breaking down the numbers: A majority of independents (56%) and Republicans (60%) said they wouldn't get a Covid-19 vaccine, but half of Democrats said they would. However, 81% of those surveyed said they don't believe a coronavirus vaccine would be available before November 3."
Ah, such an articulate and golden throated genius! Such a morally upright, saintly fellow! I do wonder how many abortions he has paid for. A few, I'll bet. I read that there were 8, but so far that's unproven... Where there is a Stormy, though, there are bound to be plenty who give it away... We all know how Trump loves a bargain! You can only be lucky for so long. And he's sure to get rid of Obama care and replace it with that wonderful healthcare plain he's had over 5 years to come up with!
Former Trump Administration Official Claims President Wanted to Swap Puerto Rico for Greenland By Ryan Chatelain Nationwide PUBLISHED 3:25 PM ET Aug. 19, 2020 Former DHS Official: Trump Wanted to Swap Puerto Rico for Greenland excerpt: "“Not only did he want to purchase Greenland, he actually said he wanted to see if we could sell Puerto Rico,” Taylor said. “Could we swap Puerto Rico for Greenland because, in his words, Puerto Rico was dirty and the people were poor? “The president expressed deep animus towards the Puerto Rican people behind the scenes. These are people who were recovering from the worst disaster of their lifetimes. He is their president. He should be standing by them, not trying to sell them off to a foreign country.” The Times reported the suggestion to sell Puerto Rico was never seriously pursued. Taylor has been in the news this week after endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in a video produced by the group Republican Voters Against Trump. In the video, Taylor says the behavior he witnessed from Trump “was terrifying.” He says the president had no interest in hearing about pressing national security threats and wanted to restart — and expand — his controversial family-separation policy at the border after it was shut down. Taylor also says Trump told the Federal Emergency Management Agency to stop giving money to people in California whose homes had burned in wildfires because voters in the state largely did not support him."
Trump accused Redfield of the CDC of being confused because he didn't agree with Trump's rosy anticipation of a vaccine being ready by mid-October. Trump Again Overstates Speed of COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout - FactCheck.org excerpt: "Trump also moved up the timeline for distribution beyond what any expert or official has previously suggested, indicating a possible start as early as mid-October. “We’re on track to deliver and distribute the vaccine in a very, very safe and effective manner,” he said. “We think we can start sometime in October. So as soon as it is announced, we’ll be able to start. That’ll be from mid-October on. It may be a little bit later than that, but we’ll be all set.” As we have written, experts are doubtful that the ongoing phase 3 clinical trials will have progressed enough to be able to conclude a vaccine is safe and effective by the end of October or early November, let alone begin distribution."
Trump Again Overstates Speed of COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout - FactCheck.org excerpt: "Notably, neither Slaoui’s estimates nor the CDC numbers fit with Trump’s other claim that “we’ll be able to distribute at least 100 million vaccine doses by the end of 2020.” The Department of Health and Human Services issued a press release the same day as Trump’s remarks and quoted Redfield as using the number, but in a different context. “Through the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, CDC will play a vital role in deciding, based on input from experts and stakeholders, how initial, limited vaccine doses will be allocated and distributed while reliably producing more than 100 million doses by January 2021,” he said. But having 100 million doses produced by January is different from having those doses distributed by the close of 2020 — and distribution assumes the vaccine is approved, which is still unknown. Neither HHS nor the White House responded to our inquiry asking about the dose projection."
They I think have us cornered. As democrats this is a staggering blow to everything we stand for. Losing Ginsburg is a sordid tragedy at any time. In this context it fuels the opposition. I read today that female justices top the President's short-list. I only wish that it were representative of his true standing position in office. But it's posturing - a facade meant to garner votes that I'm afraid will work all to well.
