Congratulations you’re the first person to notice that. Strange because I usually pick up on things like that - must be getting old. …lol..
It's funny to me how much of a controversy showing his hips on TV was. Compare that to a song like WAP or Marilyn Manson. He stole black music and made white people love it. Without him maybe there is no modern rock music but I don't think he was the genius other people claim. He was at the right place at the right time and he looked good enough to capitalize.
Musicians influence each other. I don't like to divide it too much because music is for everyone. Like oh you are white you can't play this style but at the time a black a man would not be allowed on TV. Just white kids listening would be the controversy not hips.
I'm no musicologist, but didn't Elvis blend two different musical styles: "rhythm and blues", which was black, and country western, which was backwoods white? This fusion was called "rock a billy" and Elvis by no means invented it, but he did popularize it.
King of rock n' roll? Nah. I'll not name those who were kings of R and R-----cuz'this is an Elvis thread. I liked Blue Christmas. (remember-I was a teenager in the 50s)
Ex girl friend of mine was on a show called Fridays and she was in a skit with Kaufman seated at a table and he refused to do the lines of the skit and started improvising. She got pissed and threw some food at him. He was an odd dude.
BEFORE there was rock and roll--I used to sit in my grammas 49 Ford at night and listen to black preachers in church sing their asses off and it was R&R BEFORE R&R!!! Man , they were good. Might have been the Mighty XERB on the dial.
