In the stories about New Zealand's latest mini outbreak, this most important paragraph exists, far away from the headlines, buried half way into the article

"Six of the seven new cases have been linked to the cluster responsible for all the previous community cases."

New Zealand working with Victorian authorities to trace source of outbreak

If it's about latency, the virus surviving for months in parts of the body protected from the immune system, then we are all screwed

Eastern China, Taiwan, Fiji and New Zealand; these were the only places left in the world with a low number of cases

Well, doomsday, but only 0.03% of us die

(0.03% if "us" is the whole world, 0.3% if "us" is people that live in large first world cites and for the most part really love cheeseburgers and soda or are as old as all hell)

    :)

I'm not sure if you have me confused with someone else or are making baseless assumptions about my position on masks but I've been one of the earliest proponents of masks from the US on this forum. Off the top of my head, I'm guessing I was probably the first US member to post anything referencing scientific research about masks here.

That being said, in keeping with objectivity, this is obviously a fluid situation, both in the sense that aspects of protection against the virus are not completely understood and that viruses can mutate.

I've not seen anything here that would suggest there is a nuanced perspective in the effectiveness of different types of mask other than N95 and everything else, granted, I'm not around as much these days. The amount of cloth masks worn around my area would suggest many people haven't got the memo of their ineffectiveness, I'm assuming that's fairly prevalent in other areas as well.

China and COVID-19: "They lied to us and we're going to make them pay"
A number of law firms and conservative think tanks are demanding financial compensation from China for its mishandling of the outbreak.

A Chinese doctor who fled her home country under threat has claimed COVID-19 originated in a military lab and China and the World Health Organisation covered up facts about its human contagion early on.

Li-Meng Yan, whose family and friends have been interrogated and threatened by communist party officials since she left China in April, has become a coronavirus whistleblower in the US.

She was working as a virologist last December at Hong Kong University’s public health laboratory sciences division, a World Health Organisation infectious diseases research centre.

Her boss, Professor Leo Poon, asked her to investigate a mysterious cluster of SARS-like virus cases in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Professor Poon was one of the scientists engaged in identifying the genome sequence of the 2003 SARS coronavirus epidemic.

What Dr Yan found would be ignored by Beijing and further suppressed by the regime and its scientists.

Early in January she knew from the family clusters among the Wuhan cases there was human-to-human transmission and that other scientists in China had sequenced the COVID-19 genome.

She knew Wuhan had more cases than the Chinese government was admitting and she would come to believe Beijing’s claim the virus came from a Wuhan wet market which was a deliberate lie.

“They didn’t want public discussion. They were telling people not to worry,” she said"

Has anyone contacted Poon? I'm guessing Poon's lips are sealed in fear of getting a CCP gang beating. It would be great if someone could have a private exchange with Poon, maybe get Poon on a nice Deck and have a discreet back and forth.

I think I've seen one interview with Yan, I don't recall her mentioning anything about Rona being created in a lab but that is an interesting (and scary) development if accurate.

Prototype air sampler used in a Covid ward to confirm live aerosol particles of the virus in the air, ward had triple filter HVAC air conditioning system

    Published 3rd August, 2020

"Air samples were collected in the room of two COVID-19 patients, one of whom had an active respiratory infection with a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab positive for SARS-CoV-2 by RT-qPCR. By using VIVAS air samplers that operate on a gentle water-vapor condensation principle, material was collected from room air and subjected to RT-qPCR and virus culture. The genomes of the SARS-CoV-2 collected from the air and of virus isolated in cell culture from air sampling and from a NP swab from a newly admitted patient in the room were sequenced. Findings - Viable virus was isolated from air samples collected 2 to 4.8m away from the patients. The genome sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 strain isolated from the material collected by the air samplers was identical to that isolated from the NP swab from the patient with an active infection. Estimates of viable viral concentrations ranged from 6 to 74 TCID50 units/L of air. Interpretation - Patients with respiratory manifestations of COVID-19 produce aerosols in the absence of aerosol-generating procedures that contain viable SARS-CoV-2, and these aerosols may serve as a source of transmission of the virus."

Only 305 coronavirus deaths in a country of 50 million and they’re protesting the government.
Well it’s certainly not over their response to COVID-19 which has been extraordinary

Coronavirus with us “for all eternity”: US epidemiologist

An infectious diseases expert has said that COVID will be “with us humans for all eternity”.

Director of the University of Minnesota’s Centre for Infectious Disease Research and Policy Dr Mike Osterholm said the coronavirus crisis was different to other pandemics likening it to a “super forest fire”.

There have now been 21,500,000 COVID-19 cases globally with 775,000 deaths according to Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Centre. The US alone has reported over 170,000 deaths from the virus.

"Hong Kong(CNN Business)Japan just reported its worst drop in GDP on record as the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak dented consumption.

The world's third-largest economy shrank 7.8% in the second quarter compared with the previous quarter, the country's Cabinet Office said on Monday. That translated to an annual rate of decline of 27.8%, the worst since modern records started in 1980 and the third consecutive quarter of contraction".

"Victoria’s coronavirus numbers are not falling as steeply as expected despite Melbourne’s strict stage 4 lockdown being in place for two weeks.

Cases have dropped in the past week from a record high of 725 on August 6, to less than 300 in recent days including 282 on Monday.

But Melbourne University epidemiologist Professor Tony Blakely told news.com.au that the numbers were not as low as hoped

On the five-day average graph, we reached a peak on July 30 and then plateaued one week to 10 days after mandatory masks were introduced,” he said.

“Cases fell quite quickly in the week following August 4, quicker than I expected but then in the last week — which is seven days after stage 4 lockdown — it’s actually slowed and that’s what I find odd.

“It’s still going down, which is good, but at this rate of progress we’ll be lucky if we are at less than 50 cases a day by the end of the six-week lockdown.”

The slower than expected decline could leave authorities with a tough decision to make at the end of the lockdown on September 13.

What? All of those things are done. I'm married to a nurse dude. You think she does not yell at me if I don't keep the house sterile? She's terrified of giving it to me. No matter how much she cleans at work I need to clean too. Kind of sweet she cares so much but yeah this has struck a nerve.

And in public places I go like the grocery store there are definitely people cleaning the areas people touch. Once again it's just America not doing this as they should.

Trying to blame me the guy who follows medical advice that is rich.

    Not what I remember

Perhaps I have confused your ignorant and hateful views from another topic. You do have some of those I don't agree with and maybe I associated anti-mask with the same kind of views on life.

It would be off topic to the thread to get specific but I'm definitely not on these topics. I got so mad it was one of the few times my posts were removed by a mod and I believe some of your as well.
