I visited Cuba for a month, so I've seen and heard stuff in person. It's interesting. The people are great for the most part. Nobody I talked to wants the "regime" to continue, but they can only tell me that once they've learned to trust me and know no one else is listening. It's obvious infrastructure development stopped since the revolution. Those things aren't happening all the time nor across the island but choices are sparse. Plenty of homegrown tropical fruits and stuff though. Lots of potential there once they free it up. There's a small amount of capitalism type ventures gaining ground like casas particulares and "private" restaurants but they pay a hefty price to the govt for the privilege. I say let's make it the 51st state!

Its kinda like the problem of public education. Why should I pay tax for public schools if my kids are grown and gone on to college? The theory is that an educated populace benefits all of us in the long run. That may be just a theory, but probably has some substance behind it. Same with roads. Why should I pay for paved roads if I live in the country and use dirt roads? etc.

So are you saying that it's OKAY to say fuck off to the disadvantaged?

    My, that's rather unsettling.

Whatever system is in place I believe we should all pay a share of the cost.

What I remember from college is that many of these 3rd world nations were forced by the colonialists to become Mono-Crop nations, means a single export. Uganda was expected to be a coffee producer and exporter. Algeria was to become a grape grower and exporter, and Egypt a cotton grower and exporter. If any of these nations miss-behaved, their colonial masters would destroy their only source of revenue with sanctions and boycotts.

Sometimes Mister T gets in a bad mood and is hard to understand. He's real cool most of the time. I love Mister T very much.

For the vast majority of us we’d faint having 1or 2 % of our income be “thousands of dollars”. Seem like the % may be too low. A nice progressive tax may not totally level the playing field but it certainly a start to keep the obscenely rich from taking all of the pie.

One in thirty adults is a doctor. They are paid $300/mo by the govt. Many rent rooms to tourists and make much more not even working as a doctor. Many Cubans are running around with missing teeth. Free healthcare is worth every penny. I wouldn't go there to get treatment, would you?

I've seen Cuban doctors volunteering in other Latinoamericano countries. It's a govt program to get experience like interning. I wanted to like your post until you denigrated our president. Maybe you should talk about AMLO instead.

I suspect he's being sarcastic, and imputing that sentiment to VG.

If you stay nice he might let you kneel in front of him, maybe even wash his feet.

    Maybe. :flushed:

People have a lot of misconceptions about countries/people in the third world. It's often not your preconceived notion of what it's like.

Have you been to Cuba? I ask because you seem to have a very authoritative opinion about their life and times.

Happy to help young families with their health care costs, especially during these challenging times

Exactly it is an insurance scheme - in the UK you are not allowed to drive without having car insurance and to have a mortgage you have to have building insurance.

There are differing types of healthcare insurance schemes some bad like the US other good in the UK the NHS was one of the best schemes in the world until the neoliberals started defunding it and taking it apart, Germany and Switzerland I believe have good schemes.

It is about covering costs if something happens, nobody know the future and you can’t base it on the past, just because you haven’t had a house fire in the past does not mean there might be one in the future, just because you have not experienced a car accident does not mean you never will, and just because you have not needed a doctor does not mean you will never need one.

It also goes back to what I said earlier about priorities I’d rather live in a society that looked after its sick injured, old and frail than in one that allowed people to suffer even unto death.

The problem is that people are voting left simply because they think it represents their collective views, it doesn’t result in that, nor is it what they think or hope it is. To say you do not agree with them on everything you are cast out. Silenced. I am seeing this happening today and am disturbed by it.

murdering is a constant trait of socialism, has its beginning with the spiritual murdering of all dissenting from the Perceived dominant spirituality of one designated group, and ending, Resisting by the physical murder. All the murdering has been done under the pretense of defending the designated group from the others and the idea of a better world. The utopian society. We would all love one but do not believe it is possible, isn’t realistic. We are se Just a pipe dream.

we are seeing the left leaning heavily towards Marxist, and believe it or not, hitler too was a fan. In Public he denied it as his Russia, Stalin and Lenin followed Marxism too. Privately he said to Hermann Rauschning, a Danzig Nazi who knew Hitler before and after his accession to power in 1933, tells how in private Hitler acknowledged his profound debt to the Marxian tradition. "I have learned a great deal from Marxism" he once remarked, "as I do not hesitate to admit". He was proud of a knowledge of Marxist texts acquired in his student days before the First World War and later in a Bavarian prison.

in Marxism you MUST speak in a specific way to oppose the others. Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini were fans, so was hitler. Look how that ended up.

Who appointed you as the 'thought police ??? - what these people think and how they vote is their decision and you have no say in it whatsoever !!!
