I get your point. You're the exception. And it's understandable that you feel some guilt over this. Guys like Elon Musk, Jeff Besoz, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and the like don't need to feel that guilt because they didn't just step into that wealth, but instead worked to create it. You can alleviate some guilt by helping others. Instead of owning things you can't keep track of, do something bigger to help humanity. There's a lot of things you could do to make the world a better place for some people especially disadvantaged. How would it feel to help some Venezuelans not starve to death? Clean up waste in a trashed up area? Buy some tropical forest and donate it to a conservation effort to prevent it from being developed? Whatever. You can turn much of that dumb luck money into actual works of betterment, and be the better person for it. Your destiny and your legacy are in your own hands.

PS: your English is better than many people who were born into it. Cheers for sarcasm but there's still some reality to the concepts.

Seriously, is the term "churl" coming back into use in some subculture? I think of it as an Old English/Middle English term, denoting "a man of inferior class, peasant, rustic, commoner".churl - Wiktionary Sounds kinda snobby and archaic--in the same class with "knave" and "varlot". Do you think of yourself as an aristocrat and me as your social inferior, Six--a peasant commoner? That may explain a lot--why you are so distressed about the egalitarian ethos of progressives and Democrats. Behind all the libertarian rhetoric, we find a fear that the riffraff are taking over.

Bullshit, this is what socialism offers

Cuba's Lessons after 55 Years of Socialism
the sad reality of a socialism that exemplifies the biggest ideological fraud of modern times. These are the facts, the hard facts, that those who still advocate policies that only lead to oppression, misery, and inequalities should keep in mind.

Here’s What Life Is Like Living In Communist Cuba
Members of the student activist group Turning Point USA (TPUSA) traveled to Cuba to find out what a full generation of socialism has done for the once-thriving country.

“Everything you’ve ever seen about Cuba is a lie,” TPUSA’s Benny Johnson warned viewers in a video published Monday.

The activists explain that images of Cuba online do not portray the harsh reality of the situation in the communist country: that the “effects of socialism are everywhere,” as Johnson noted, and Cuba’s citizens are suffering.

‘Cuba sucks’: Reflections on socialism, behind the curtain
Among the eye-openers captured on video: Long gas lines — so long that people were pushing cars because they ran out of gas, while waiting. Grocery stores that are locked, until government bureaucrats give the OK to open them — after which swarms of people rush to the entrance, trying to beat the competition for that day’s essentials. Grocery shelves that have rows upon rows upon rows of, say, cans of one brand of garbanzos — but nothing in the way of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh meat or even choice. A city street that’s lined with broken, crumbling buildings — buildings that obviously had been beautiful mansion-size homes at one point. And piles of trash and garbage and more trash, overflowing into the streets.

Turning Point USA is a right wing student organization. So they traveled to Cuba and found that it sucked. Surprise, surprise! Actually, from everything I've read, I think it does suck. So if everything I've ever seen about Cuba is a lie, it must be a wonderful place. Of course, over five decades of U.S. sanctions contributed to its problems, but Socialism Cuban style surely played a part. And let's be clear, it's not just socialism: it's communist totalitarianism. Before that, it was Batista who also sucked. Neocolonialist authoritarianism. And your point is?

Socialism is good for some things, like maybe health insurance, parks, the military, police, the fire department, infrastructure... but you wouldn't want the government manufacturing cars and computers. A hybrid of socialism and well regulated capitalism is the best system. Unfettered capitalism leads to fascism or corporatism, which are very similar. Pure socialism or pure capitalism are both disasters, unless, of course, you're rich.

This thread seems to have been created to sow division and disharmony amongst the liberal free-thinking HipForums members.

As such it should surely be closed...shouldn't it? Seems to be the way of things here, right?

is it though as far as health care?
Atlantic Crossing: Why single-payer health systems spark endless debate

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...andemic-is-an-indictment-socialized-medicine/
If you think today’s pandemic bolsters the case for socialized medicine, then ask yourself a simple question: If you came down with a serious case of covid-19, would you rather be in an Italian hospital or an American one? Even presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden knows the answer. “With all due respect to Medicare-for-all,” Biden said during the last Democratic candidates’ debate, “you have a single-payer system in Italy. It doesn’t work there.”

What are the others? China? North Korea? Vietnam? These of course are Marxist-Leninist dictatorships--i.e., also communist. Whaddabout Laos? Is Venezuela on the list. You neglected to mention any that aren't Marxist-Leninist. Should we bring up Greece? Uruguay? Bangladesh? Bolivia? Tanzania? Most of these (Greece an exception) are also Third World countries, experiencing colonialist domination and lacking an indigenous capitalist class to speak of, so you have a maojr chicken-and-egg problem. Anyhow, thanks for narrowing it down to four. Once we get the list finalized, we can keep it on hand the next time Six or Beach Ball Lady Balls goes off on the U.S. or Canada.

In the old days there was a concept known as "come by it honest" and today most of the ultra rich come by it by hook or by crook with a little help from dishonest Republicans in government.

I have never heard a Democrat say that. It just sprouted out of your own mind, and sounds ridiculous.

Actually the original poster had no such intent, it started as a worthy discussion. The OTH.ER thread you refer to was created as a personal rant designed to inflame.

I don't live in Cuba. Your aim is way off... and to think there are only TWO socialist countries on the planet is another piece of disinformation your are posting. Keep it up and see where that gets you.
