Some of his campaign workers contributed to a public service organization that provides bail to those who can't afford it to deal with the overcrowding situation in our jails. In the absence of a preventive detention statute, there is no basis to withhold bail unless a judge believes that the accused is likely to skip. The person or group that provides the bail will, of course, forfeit it if the accused doesn't appear for trial. That determination is up to the judge. Do you have any information that the organization in question specifically provided bail for anyone who started fires?
