All it needs is worldwide television news channels to suggest that people walk on the same side of the road that they drive and it would be working within 24 hours. At times like this, 95% or people will comply with suggestions that make sense. Governments and laws are not required. In fact thy are more likely to make some people rebel.
The only problem I see with it though, is if you’re trying to get to a specific location, whether it’s to shop or to work, it becomes an inconvenience to have to cross a busy street to get to the other side. It could cause a lot traffic issues for vehicles and pedestrians. People will not want to go all the way to a crosswalk to cross the street, just to walk all the way back up the road again. I hope that makes sense, got a headache.
you can tell people anything. some will listen. some won't. and of course, none of us are any more nor less then another, that much is "the world" but then the human ego comes into it. and that has nothing to do with beliefs nor gods nor gender nor biological imperatives, though these are commonly used as excuses for hating logic or any kind of sense.
That was why I said that it should just be a general guideline, without people enforcing it at times when it is unnecessary, or when it would put people in danger. I don't know what it is like in your part of the world, but here even busy main roads are virtually deserted. I was working on our car in the drive last week and not a single vehicle passed by in more than an hour, normally the cars are nose to tail at busy times. Without the traffic and planes flying over at low altitude ever 40 seconds, it is kind of eerie. I have not heard a single sound in the time that it has taken me to type this message. Thinking about it, most of the houses are empty. I think that huge numbers of people living in London due to their work have returned to their family homes outside London to isolate as a family group. I spoke to the orders office at one of our major suppliers last week and all 600 of the staff are working from home. Life may change quite drastically when all this is over and much of it could be for the better. Up to now, few companies have taken on board the opportunities opened up by the internet. The girl who takes our orders said that logged onto her work server, their is absolutely nothing that she can't do from home that she could do in the office. Social staff interaction, meetings and training are obviously important, but when things get back to normal, this could be achieved by one day a week in the office, staggered into teams, cutting congestion crowded public transport and air pollution by 80%. Just a thought while I an sitting here. LOL.
Take a look at my reply to Eric, I feel that reducing congestion and crowding has already helped a lot of people relax and lead a calmer life. PS, I have just noticed that we are the same age. LOL.
Don't know how much longer stay home order will be in effect. But I notice others are dropping their guard, and socializing more. I still maintain my distance. Just me and wife, so easy for us. But children are out playing, and enjoying spring weather.
Yea. I caught myself yesterday. I typically order out quite a bit, and while that is relatively safe, going to the grocery store for snacks is less so. Well, that's exactly what I kept thinking about doing (going to get a snack). Ultimately, I know better & decided against it.
