"Collectively, governors have a 71 percent approval rating on how they have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, though the results vary widely from state to state, according to a Washington Post/Ipsos poll released Tuesday morning. President Trump's coronavirus approval rating is 43 percent. Broken down by party, Democratic governors had 75 percent approval ratings for their handing of the pandemic, versus 67 percent for Republican governors, but the governor with the highest rating — Ohio's Mike DeWine, at 86 percent — is a Republican.

After DeWine, the next eight governors on the list are Democrats, and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) sits at the bottom with 39 percent approval for his handling. Governors who emphasized containing the coronavirus over limiting the economic fallout fared better. DeWine, for example, "moved aggressively to close down his state and has been cautious about lifting the restrictions," the Post notes, while Kemp "moved less swiftly than some other governors to mitigate the spread and has been in the forefront of reopening the economy there."

The poll found, not surprisingly, that a large majority of Americans — 74 percent — said the U.S. should prioritize fighting the virus while 24 percent said the emphasis should be on reopening businesses."

Trump has released Paul Manafort from prison. He did so while claiming the danger of Coronavirus was the main reason to release his old friend and campaign manager who had lied to Bob Mueller and committed a large bundle of crimes. It seems to Trump, Coronavirus is only serious when he wants something in the cronyism department like this. When he speaks to the American people, Coronavirus is not serious enough to justify restrictions on business. Paul Manafort is out but Michael Cohen is still in prison.

 

Stormy, Cohen got out a couple of weeks ago.

"Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden's lead over President Donald Trump now stands at five points, but Trump has an edge in the critical battleground states that could decide the electoral college, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

In the new poll, 51% of registered voters nationwide back Biden, while 46% say they prefer Trump, while in the battlegrounds, 52% favor Trump and 45% Biden. Partisans are deeply entrenched in their corners, with 95% of Democrats behind Biden and the same share of Republicans behind Trump. The two are close among independents (50% back Trump, 46% Biden, not a large enough difference to be considered a lead), but Biden's edge currently rests on the larger share of voters who identify as Democrats."


"Trump's biggest advantage over Biden in the poll comes on his handling of the economy. Most voters, 54%, say they trust the President to better handle the nation's economy, while 42% say they prefer Biden. An earlier release from the same CNN poll found the public's ratings of the economy at their worst level since 2013, as a growing share said the economic damage wrought by the coronavirus outbreak could be permanent. But Biden does have the advantage as more trusted to handle the response to the coronavirus outbreak (51% Biden to 45% Trump) and health care (54% Biden to 42% Trump)."

Trump’s Lawyer Threatens Michael Cohen as He Remains in Jail

"The news of the Trump Org’s legal threat against Cohen came the same day that the prisoner, who was due to be released from federal prison to house arrest on Friday, found that he will in fact remain behind bars, two people familiar with the situation told The Daily Beast.

A person close to Cohen confirmed to The Daily Beast he was now not being released to home arrest.

It was unclear what prompted the last-minute decision to not release Cohen after he—along with other prisoners—had spent 14-days in quarantine at the minimum security facility in Otisville, New York, which had become overrun with COVID-19.

It had been reported that Cohen was preparing for release from the facility May 1, but late on Thursday, a Bureau Of Prisons spokesperson emailed The Daily Beast, “We can confirm that Michael Cohen is located at FCI Otisville, as found when searching his name on our website's inmate locator."

"Cohen adviser and friend Lanny Davis did not directly allege any political meddling in the handling of Cohen’s application to be released early on account of the coronavirus outbreak, but he appeared to signal that such a charge would be leveled if Cohen’s request to be sent home isn’t granted soon.

Cohen — who pleaded guilty and received a three-year sentence in 2018 on various charges including campaign finance violations related to Trump’s 2016 campaign and obstructing Congress’ investigation into ties between the campaign and Russia — had been told he was to be released from an Otisville, N.Y., federal prison camp to home confinement on Friday, but that did not occur, according to Davis.

“We are disappointed not only that there was this delay but that no explanation has been offered to him or his family as to the reason for the delay,” Davis said. “We also hope that authorities at the Justice Department and the Bureau of Prisons remain committed to implement the Attorney General’s humane policy during this Covid-19 pandemic crisis, and that no political influences are allowed to interfere that might lead to any further delay.”"

"“I know that people are frustrated and I am very disappointed the Capitol Commission didn’t take action today to keep legislators safe,” Whitmer said. “We’ve heard a lot of stories of legislators who are fearful of going to work after scenes we’ve seen play out here.”

Officials are becoming concerned with the violent rhetoric surrounding the stay-at-home order -- especially after Gov. Whitmer has received multiple death threats. Officials say the threats are being investigated.

Whitmer is standing by her actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state -- which still has the third highest numbers of COVID-19 deaths in the country.

The state has seen a recent decrease in the rate of growth of COVID-19 cases and deaths, but Whitmer warns that relaxing social distancing measures prematurely could lead to a “second wave”."
