Because the majority of American voters that want progressive change are not trying to get it. They're fighting against Trump or the Republicans and think the only way they can do that is by supporting the Democrat party.

 

That is not the immediate goal. The immediate goal is to repair the country. If that includes reducing polarisation, that's a benefit.

 

I think that is a long term mission. And if you want to start with it now (which I would applaud) it might be more useful to look further than Trump and the current Democrat candidate.

I don't have to. My country has a variety of left and right wing parties that have a chance on governing on a national level. If the biggest for the time being gets overly self assured there's no big problem for me. No party should have the monopoly on a whole political wing. That seems only slightly better than a one party state to me.
