Oh bagel, thy tongue speaketh such irrefutable truths that I must bow and thanketh the heavens for having been breathed life in such a time of unconceivable wisdom. My mind remains but a cave, shrouded in darkness, but with each word you bestow upon us, piercing light radiates, showing me glimpses of worlds I would have never known.
As if relocating the elderly is going to hide them from a Chinese virus that’s found itself in every part of the world. Some of you don’t think things through, do you?
Don't we tho? Over 100,000 dead worldwide while it is in "check"... That would be grim. I don't know how life is in the UK but here in the States farmers, food distribution workers, grocery store workers, and (thankfuly) restaurant kitchen personnel are considered essential. So the food network is currently unaffected while a million and a half people are sick and 100,000 of them have died. I guess I don't understand why I should be more concerned with a hypothetical doomsday scenario that could happen in the future than with a very real doomsday scenario literally actually happening right now primary function of a virus is to infect a host organism. The primary function of a car is to get a person from point a to point b. It's really not the same thing. And alcohol? People make the choice to drink alcohol. It messes them up. If I decide to down a couple of bottles of wine and then stagger out into the streets coughing on people, they're not going to get cirrhosis (I think is how its spelled) of the liver. Thats the difference. But I won't disagree that alcohol is horrible and that it has ruined and ended lives
It's unlikely there will be a famine in first world countries due to a lack of food production. It's not stopping.
Thats actually a really good point that I keep forgetting about. Our Healthcare workers right now are the real heroes and we should do our part to support them
I sincerely doubt some people who arguing otherwise (ignoring safety measures) are aware of what would happen if we ignore their advice! Same with their claims of what would happen longterm and that it would be prevented by not locking down. Are they really thinking they covered all bases there? I think not. Last but not least: they're usually arguing that our governments have not considered the long term concerns by locking down. Dubious nonsense of course.
It's not to keep old people from catching the virus, it's to send them somewhere so they don't interfere with the healthcare system and the economy... Well... I do live alone already. But, I am also isolated from the general population because I live in a rural area on a moderately large property. Nobody comes here to visit, I don't go other places to visit. Also, If I were to catch this virus when I go to the pharmacy and grocery store next week, or a month from now, I will just be sick... at home, alone. I will live though it or die from it, doesn't matter to me. I won't be spreading it around or clogging the healthcare system. So, Yeah... In my case if some agency were to haul me off to some other location to die, I would be upset.
Another COVID-19 conspiracy theory: = Preparation/Practice for Invasion:- Can we cope? Does a Nation comply with Government instruction? Can a Nation's resources respond to/in adversity
If I'm being honest though I keep going back and forth between thinking this is necessary And thinking there's a lot of government overreach here and that shutting everything down is going to end really badly And I think the long term mental health effects of putting a social species into isolation probably can't be underestimated. I dunno
Yeah, I just objected to you telling me that I needed to stop talking in such a way re natural selection, because we are not the same as animals.. We have a conscience. I see it that way, and I have a conscience. It's not that I don't care about our grandparents.. It's accepting they will die, just like all of us, and if a natural virus does it, that's something we just accept. Sorry I haven't quoted everything so I'll just answer in one response.. No, I meant drunk drivers kill other people. But whatever. Forget those analogies. They were mainly because you said this would all be worth it to save ONE life. How about.. Hey guys, I know you like to eat cows but beef industry is not great for the environment. Would you stop eating them to help the climate. No people don't want to do that, so they won't. Nevermind that it might make earth inhospitable. And regarding food production.. The UK cannot support its population, we rely on imports. That was the area that would worry me. I keep answering this. It's not something we're all missing or forgetting. We could have more hospitals instead of bombs. Asmo will jump in here with "yes but this is NOW, that's idealism".. But this WILL happen again, so why not talk about it now. Changes which would mean next time this doesn't have to happen. Asmo also doesn't think discussions about population are relevant. But.. Ah maaan I don't know how I've ended up so deep in this. I just don't care if a million people die. It's okay. It's not sad, no more than every other death. It's just life. That's the main thing. But I'm happy with the lockdown because it's fun. So I've got no motivation to argue why it's illogical. And I still think so. The negative impact will outweigh the positive. But we'll see how it goes I guess : ) we haven't even got close to it being lifted yet. What happens if a month later another virus appears. Do we do all this again? No one seems to want to face the long term. But AAANYWAY I'm happy either way so no reason to wear myself out in these debates. Haha.
It is government overreach but I think what we saw in places like Florida was that people left to themselves to do the right thing for their community won't. If the government doesn't force people to stay home they won't. They had to literally barricade beach parking lots here because people kept going to the beach in droves. Meanwhile in Sweden they aren't enforcing any of this and number of cases there are as comparable to any other northern European nation. They interviewed their prime Minister or president or whatever and asked how he could be so irresponsible to not enforce all these safety measures. He said it was because he didn't have to. People were social distancing and staying home ready. I guess my point is if we all collectively volunteered to do the right thing, we wouldn't have to have the government enforce it
I said we as in collectively as a society, as a ... species. I wasn't telling you to stop talking. I would never...
We're not on different pages here, and I am also one who thinks my idealism makes much more sense logically than what we're already doing (just in general, not about this specifically) This isn't really a short term solution though. I guess I'm doing what you said asmo would do lol, but the "now" does seem particularly relevant. Should we talk about it as a long term solution? Yeah but it probably won't happen because humans tend to be reactive rather than proactive ( unless you and I become leaders of the world, Dr. Rue. Which IS my plan). But in the short term even if we build new hospitals, there's still a medical equipment shortage. And there wouldn't be enough medical staff to staff the hospitals. And we're likely to hit the peak in the next few weeks anyways, now is the critical time to try to keep the number of cases down
Yeah totally agree, I think I made this same point a couple weeks ago. If people could be trusted to not be dumb But people be dumb
