That is the only reason right there, for me! If it was just me by myself, I could care less about the current situation. Gotta be able to protect the family and what’s yours!
I too worry about the jobs. The jobs for people. Each country has become too reliant on China for industry and other countries. The control of everything is held there, solution? Bring back industry, take care of your own, supply for within your own borders, to the people within first, excess can be exported perhaps, but have a stock pile ready to deal with catastrophe. the jobs and industry moving overseas was to help other countries, they promoted this as being helpful to those less fortunate, but was or is this true? grocery stores here are restocked, they are only allowing 6 people in at a time. You must remain 6 ft away from all people. As one leaves another may enter. also, this isolation is going to end when; flu season is over, which is at the end of winter. The extra two weeks should make a difference.
I am self employed. I just got shut down until at least March 31st but I'm expecting it to be much longer than that. I'll be fine because we have savings and a plan but I know many people in my industry that are totally fucked. Even just a 9 day shut down will set them back severely. I'm certainly not one that looks for handouts but something will have to be done to help small businesses out because many people don't have enough saved to sustain their business for several months of being shut down.
Think if people could see what happens 6 months later , now, they would be lynching their politicians in public today Putin at the moment seems to be the only world leader prepared to just let it run its course
Lets be Real; Russia has performed 133,101 tests for the Coronavirus, and yet only has 253 confirmed cases of the virus. Sure I believe that.........................
And let's be real, it's not like most in the first world previously gave a shit about any of this, most of which preventable: 190,990 Deaths caused by water related diseases this year 841,742,601 Undernourished people in the world 24,313 People who died of hunger today 2,944,349 Communicable disease deaths this year 110,242 Seasonal flu deaths this year 1,723,985 Deaths of children under 5 this year 41,656,548HIV/AIDS infected people 381,281 Deaths caused by HIV/AIDS this year 222,474 Deaths caused by malaria this year These are all from the worldometer website, ones listed as "this year" just from the 83 days since Jan 01 Maybe a long hard look at our individual value system is what is needed. If you really do give more of a shit about 5000 mostly 80 yr olds In Italy over the more than 100,000 deaths of children in Africa due to Malaria, maybe there is something wrong
Two questions: 1. Do you believe the Chinese figures? Because that's what most of the modelling/ projections are based on 2. If Russia just let it run its course, how many deaths would you expect in a 12 month period? Population is 145 million
i'm sure the big corporations will be happy to give the defunct small business owners a minimum wage job when they reopen.
Take into account its geography !!! - Notwithstanding its Spring, much of Russia and particularly Siberia are covered in Snow and Ice. Only yesterday did the Russians hold a festival out on the ice in the middle of Lake Baikal. In order to survive, viruses nead warmth = something totally absent in Siberia, which would substantially account for the low numbers of those infected with the virus.
Ok, I heard viruses like corona as well as the flu thrive and spread better in colder temperatures (maybe not as cold as it is in Siberia right now though ). Hence it is speculated it might do far less damage when spring really sets in. Bacteria thrive in warmer temps.
Will warming spring temperatures slow the coronavirus outbreak? Seems its uncertain how the covid19 virus will behave in warmer temps.
I think that you're being overly pessimistic, but I agree with you on many points (and I'm speaking from a canadian perspective where the loss of life will likely be less significant than in the US). I worry that the only way to fix this now is through the government adopting more coercive measures and taking greater control of industry. I don't have a problem with that, per se, but anyone who thinks that governments will give up all of that power when this is over (whenever that is and whatever that looks like) has their head in the sand.
