Coronavirus Update: De Blasio Says NYC 10 Days Away From Widespread Shortages Of Critical Medical Equipment

Apparently there's a law called the Defense Production Act that we could implement to have more ventilators. Not sure why it's not being done.

So, The Donald was right. The Donald knew that Great Firewall of China wasn't airtight. Plant that seed amongst the Chinese people. The world blames the Chinese Communist Party

I already said I fixed it

But Also, your country just reported 13,931 new cases today as a correction of the lag for the last couple days

    #3 in the world now.

We have about half the cases of Italy and about 1/30 the deaths... Wonder if the difference is just the median age.

As for the stimulus/bailout, it looks like we're back to the old argument of trickle down vs. direct subsidy. The republican senate has suggested $1,200 checks, yes. But those checks are only a fraction of the total bailout. And even those only go to people who generate income and pay taxes. The lowest earners get half that much ($600). Why? Perhaps it's because they likely won't be paying it all back in next year's taxes. As for seniors earning social security, democrats proposed increasing their monthly check, along with increasing unemployment insurance for those who will certainly lose their jobs.

Other discussions are ongoing around rules for corporations utilizing bailout funds. Like not allowing them to take bailouts and still fire/layoff workers.

EDIT: Also, Rand Paul (a senator) has tested positive for coronavirus.

Once again you are making assumptions on what my opinion is based on what sounds negative to you in an emotive way in the short term

I am a numbers man. Just because the maths sounds cold doesn't necessarily mean I am. But yes, I always cared more about the walruses, horses, all the other magnificent mammals on the planet more than whether there are 1 billion or 10 billion humans on the planet. And if there was a sentient walrus, he would think you are the cold one, for wanting to sacrifice his kind so you can have 10 billion humans to sit around and pretend just promising to try is enough rather than actually working out how much everyone has to try by what amount

That sound like I'm waffling? What's that got to do with SARS 2.0?

It's exactly the same kind of argument isn't it, except this time it's within the same species

Influenza vaccines are only effective 2/3 of the time. That 2/3 is the average across all age demograhics. Work a lot better on young adults through to mid 50s. Pretty useless to over 75s. Influenza isn't kind to infants and children, Sars-CoV-2 is.

What do you think happens when we do get a Sars-CoV-2 vaccine? It will make under 50s even less susceptible than they already are, only effective half the time in 50-75 years Olds, fairly useless to those over 75. A Sars-CoV-2 vaccine will just strengthen the boomer remover thinking

All the world leaders know what they are doing, they have the magical advice from all the best "experts" That's the leap of faith you are taking at the moment

But, what if they don't. What if there aren't any "experts" on this? None of them seem to have a plan past the next two months

We are all just supposed to sit around for 6 months, half of us unemployed, just sit and wait for everyone to go bankrupt and the food run out...wait for a vaccine that's just going to make the younger ones even more immune.

Again, not really my personal opinion, the maths biatch or science bitches!

This is the current plan? You have got to be kidding me. What is wrong with everyone?

And how it makes you feel is individual. Hit by a truck for 10 days, not many people know what that feels like so yes I'd say a good portion of younger snow flakes probably would feel like they hit by a truck. Others probably just get flu like symptoms and get over it like they say you're meant to. So none of that scares me and I still believe it's the medias job to induce fears and panics and when things aren't working and people aren't listening then the lies and fear just get bigger.

So, still not a concerned Irmi here. :) not for my life anyway.

Your fellow country men routinely bitch about your government and the healthcare system, but come on, it is the best in the world. Certainly the best in the world for countries with more than 100 million people. And it's low/ mid level that's going to do all the grunt work.

You are going to get some figures that sound crazy on their own, but then you divide by 330 million and well

It's a very contagious disease that goes straight for the lungs, air pollution has to be a factor, but that's going to be masked by the effect of overseas traveler's that skew the numbers in the big cities anyway

You have better ground level health care, you are more spread out than some of these other places, not being in the middle of winter of course is a factor, you don't have as many smokers, you don't have as many really old people. You were never going to get that doubling in 4 days curve

Nurses of the USA, they are the real heroes. U-S-A U-S-A

Again with the numbers; once they actually see it, and 99.5% of their friends just get a little bit of a cold or really lethargic and stay in bed for a couple days but then get over it and that one guy in high school that had asthma gets sent to the ICU well then....

Another interesting part to this is, if any government decides to try shut off the internet to try control the spread of information, then all of a sudden you have all those Millennials and Post Millennials that can't really use their iPhones...the group's you are most reliant on not spreading this virus

So, good luck with that too
