I don't get job losses. So you can't work for a few weeks. It takes longer for an emoyee to fire you, hire someone else and train them up plus they lose more time and workload trying to find someone.

Seems dumb to me.

A Moveable Feast is what really got me into him. It isnt fiction; it's more of a memoir of his time spent in Paris as a young writer. It features stories about Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein..its so good.

There's a great little story in there about how T.S. Eliot was working in a bank at the time, and their literary crew decided he was far too talented to work in a bank so they started a save T.S. Eliot from the bank fund.. it's basically my favorite story of all time. I'm clearly not doing it justice here lol

Also...Men Without Women. It's a collection of short stories and I think his writing style is well suited to short stories

 

Not sure how German business works but when I worked as a manager, I had to cut people's hours and let them go whenever we were not making profit. And the business was dictated by the seasons to an extent so it happened somewhat rapidly.

It's tough for me to imagine many businesses dealing with the loss of sales and impact from coronavirus.

 

We have two covid cases here in west Kentucky now; nothing in my county yet. And one case in far southern Illinois.
