Although it remains a risk going to a crowded supermarket, there should be some rules in place to minimize risking contaminating eachother? There are here.

Anyway, if this is the only place a lot of people are risking it getting it from strangers, the virus still is gonna spread a lot slower, which is what we want. Or is the US going with a different strategy?

Right, most measures are not followed and acted upon for our own healthy self (so its not, as some smartass pointed out, cowardice or lame to go with them). They are primarily to save as much in the risk groups, like certain chronically ill, a majority of the elderly, and those with weak immune systems.
Spot on! Of course i can understand that if no one or nothing is explaining to people that there's enough stock (not in store, but in distribution centres and at the factories etc. and the main concern is transporting it faster because some idiots are buying it more rapidly and in bigger quantities) that they think better safe than sorry, I go for me! ... but in the Netherlands that can't be an excuse anymore. I saw both the prime minister and folks in several distribution centres and supermarket managers explain there's enough stuff.
Imagine someone working shifts in the hospital, who misses out on toilet paper etc everytime they get in the stores after work... We're all in this together. Least one can do is respect and help those that do the most dangerous work! :)

I was really just trying to be funny and make fun of the hordes of hoarders

But I also think I have point. The store was out of sanitizer wipes for people to wipe their baskets and carts down the last time I was there, because everyone was rushing the store to buy wipes. If everyone would just go shop when they would normally shop it wouldnt be a big deal, but with huge crowds in the store to the point people are bumping into each other, it makes it a little harder to maintain "social distancing"

Yes, I acknowledged the point (i was just naively thinking about normal shoppers when I read that post, not hoarders). Even if they wouldn't hoard the supermarkets will still be THE risk spot for people who actually take the social lockdown advice. So in my neck of the woods there are some extra rules in place, like keeping at least a meter from eachother at the checkout etc. But I guess if there are too many stupid and selfish people those rules will not be followed..
People not shopping normally is a big concern. And the problem following out of it for others is completely unneccesary. It's created by those hoarders.

Be quiet or people will come for your TP stash, justifying taking it with your own quote!

Italian doctors and health personnel are warning them for this mistake. It's not about keeping the virus out, its about keeping it managable so deaths can be minimized.

Do you care more about what the pope says, than the experts and doctors with first hand experience? Do you think i care? Why are you asking that....

Boris Johnson’s response to the virus appears to have been as absurd as Trumps for the first and very critical month.
