Several months ago, I got a really good promotion at work which requires additional time for the added responsibilities, but more money, and more stress.

Yeah, there has been some chatter about similar things. So far just chatter and chatter doesnt pay the bills. But if I cant go anywhere for 3 weeks I might as well treat this like a staycation. What else is there to do right? Plus it allows me to keep an eye on the elderly woman next door

I think the stock prices have hit bottom... don't know how it works though. I think you buy cheap and sell high.

 

Yeah so when the pandemic first hit Asia, those nation’s currencies got weak so it would’ve been good in hindsight to buy that up. Now that the situation is less severe over there, the currency has gotten stronger. Gotta think about trading currencies and anticipate which ones will get strong or weak depending on the news cycle.

 

also, something was on the news that was a stark warning to me, because I was interest rate shopping in terms of a bank account not too many years ago... and it said something about banking in Lebanon. So these are the interest rates

but there was a warning that you can actually lose all your money that way. This from NPR.

I can't find an article from NPR about it. It was on the news hour last night though. I did see something about limiting US Dollar withdrawals but it's from several months ago in February, or last February... Apparently people were putting all their money over there.

Spot on. It's not about keeping the virus out, it's about ensuring it goes gradually so hospitals, especially the IC, can deal with it. It might be avoidable that hospitals have to decide who they will let die and who they will give the last bed, as is happening in Lombardy. Seems a worthy goal.

You seem to imply people taking the advice to stay at home are taking it less seriously. It depends for a large part on what job someone has (my work is also mainly logistics and so I'm just continuing that). Most government advice in your and mine country is really sensible. The best a lot of people can do atm is avoid groups of people in public.

 

Why? Lots of old people here (in fact, I have been passionately arguing for locking them up inside their homes long before the coronavirus outbreak )

So like 95% of forex trades lose money. I built a bot to see if some penalized linear regression based on betting against the market would win with monopoly money. It did, but didn't outperform S&P 500.

I'm kinda thinking it might be good to buy a few airlines, hotels & cruise ships. Assuming those don't collapse, the news can't get too much worse.

May be a bold assumption at this point.

 

Even if they don't collapse, those are things that cost quite some money while not in use. So it's arguable wether its a smart investment atm.
