Coronavirus could leave major airlines ‘bankrupt by May’ Sydney-based CAPA Centre for Aviation warns

Most of the world’s airlines will be bankrupt by the end of May 2020 due to the ongoing effects of coronavirus, a Sydney-based aviation consultant has warned.

CAPA Centre for Aviation made the dramatic prediction as countries lock down their borders in light of the spread of COVID-19 which has caused more than 170,000 infections and 6,500 deaths around the world.

European nations like Spain, Italy and France have introduced strict lockdowns for tens of millions of citizens while countries like the US, Australia and New Zealand have either banned flights entirely or forced residents to go into self-isolation for two weeks on arrival.

CAPA Aviation said the impact could wipe out the aviation industry entirely unless governments act quickly in a co-ordinated effort.

“As the impact of the coronavirus and multiple government travel reactions sweep through our world, many airlines have probably already been driven into technical bankruptcy, or are at least substantially in breach of debt covenants,” it said.

“Cash reserves are running down quickly as fleets are grounded and what flights there are operate much less than half full.”

“Forward bookings are far outweighed by cancellations and each time there is a new government recommendation it is to discourage flying. Demand is drying up in ways that are completely unprecedented. Normality is not yet on the horizon.”

Funny how people who say the government is mismanaging the health situation of the Coronavirus are the same people who think the government should manage the entire healthcare system

Just got off the phone with the CFO due to some concerns I raised with the regional manager.
He sounded... kinda sunny about the whole thing. Says we’re somewhat recession proof.
    Well. Alright.

No projections about how Covid-19 might affect business... but that was kind of to be expected.

  5. “The one thing we really don’t need is mass hysteria. Eighty percent of people have such minor symptoms, they don’t actually require any medical care at all. The 20 percent who do feel quite ill need to be evaluated, and some of them will require hospitalization and some of them will require intensive care.”
    — Dr. Robert Murphy, executive director of the Institute for Global Health at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and an infectious diseases professor.
Murphy said senior citizens are the most at-risk for severe symptoms. Those with underlying conditions — like cancer, diabetes or those with cardiovascular or lung disease — could be at risk, too.

  6. “The vast majority of cases are going to be mild, and people are going to recover just like they do from a cold or flu-like illness.”
    — Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.
Adalja said those with more serious cases will want to notify the hospital ahead of time so they can prepare potential treatments. There may even be a special entrance for you.

Yeah, but they are not going to, are they, unless they are half dead. Then are going to want to keep on working, because the rest of the family is out of work and they are not going to risk going to the doctor's in case they test positive and are sent home for a month

The government was set up to manage this whole shebang but your stable genius shut down the very office which was designed to handle pandemics. I want a Democrat Government to manage my health care. I don't want a Republican government to cut funding for my health care and then deny all or most services. During the last 65 years I watched the Republicans mismanage all sorts of government services which require corrective actions by a subsequent Democrat administration. The Tea Party Republicans founded their cult on the very idea of forcing the government out of the way so business owners can rake in the money. It was only a matter of time where such a health crisis would hit the nation. It took three years of Trump style damage to most of our government agency to the point where now government is not prepared to protect vulnerable Americans. Trump is the one who shut down the office which was designed to manage such a health emergency. He fired all the experts and cut off the funding. That agency was prepared to order the masks, test kits, and respirators for the Coronavirus victims. Trump was more interested in playing golf. He has spent nearly $200 million dollars of our tax money on golf. Just think of all the test kits and respirators that could have bought.

New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Los Angeles are closing down bars, restaurants and movie theatres. Some of those businesses won't survive being shut down. I expect other cities will follow suit eventually. It occurs to me that one of the symptoms of this outbreak is depression, people are getting depressed whether they're infected or not. Personally I intend to go on living my life and if I get sick I'm prepared to deal with it. Let's all hope for the best.

Why don't you stick to Knuckle Dragging activities? You aren't qualified to participate in American Democratic processes.

It's like you're failing to understand the economic implications here. Someone of is are going to be screwed and still never contact the disease. The handling of the virus will affect pretty much everyone. What is wrong with wanting an alternative to the way it is being handled
