Barr is going through his same act with Trump, softening the public for pardons of criminals.

William Barr Supported Pardons In An Earlier D.C. 'Witch Hunt': Iran-Contra

    excerpt:

"This won't be the first time that William Barr, President Trump's nominee to become attorney general, will be involved with what's been called a "witch hunt."

Barr, who is scheduled to go before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday for his confirmation hearings, ran the Justice Department once before, under President George H.W. Bush.

Back then, the all-consuming, years-long scandal was called Iran-Contra. On Dec. 24, 1992, it ended when Bush pardoned six people who had been caught up in it."

Trump is proposing a remedy for his big mouth problem.

Trump floats halt to officials listening in on calls with foreign leaders

    excerpt:

"President Trump said Thursday he may end the practice of having national security and foreign service staff listen in on his calls with foreign leaders after a July call with the president of Ukraine triggered his impeachment in the House.

Trump complained extensively about Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a key witness in the House impeachment inquiry, during a radio interview with Geraldo Rivera, accusing him of being "insubordinate" by raising concerns about the president's conduct on the July 25 call.

"Why are so many people allowed to listen to your phone calls anyway?" Rivera asked.

"Well, that’s what they’ve done over the years," Trump said. "When you call a foreign leader, people listen. I may end the practice entirely. I may end it entirely."

Top White House and national security officials typically listen in on presidential phone calls to keep everyone on the same page and create a record of the conversation."

In the interview with Rivera, Trump admitted to sending Giuliani overseas to dig up dirt on Biden. Trump had previously denied directing Giuliani.

Kravis quit the Justice Department altogether. The replacement for him and others will be selected by Shea, an associate of Barr who Barr made acting U.S. attorney for DC.

Barr Just Cost the Justice Department Its Prized Public-Corruption Fighter

    excerpts:

“When someone like Jonathan Kravis leaves the office,” said Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney, “that means he will be replaced by someone hired by the new U.S. attorney, Timothy Shea, whose conduct today does not instill a lot of confidence in his integrity, in contrast to Jonathan Kravis, whose conduct is consistent with the best traditions of the independence of the Department of Justice.” (Shea is a former Barr aide whom Barr recently installed as acting U.S. attorney for D.C.)

“The president has made it clear that his insistence on loyalty includes loyalty from the institutions that administer criminal justice, including DOJ and the FBI,” said NYU’s Gellers. “You might say without exaggeration that Trump wants personal loyalty from the rule of law itself.”

Trump made vague remarks that suggest that he wants the NY investigations about him that involve his tax returns dropped in return for him restoring the Global Entry and Trusted Traveler programs to NY which Trump recently took away, creating delays for NY travelers.

I pointed that out when he first got nominated by Trump. Barr is a right wing extremist who wants a strong executive.
