That would mean I'd have to take 99% of the HF problem marriage thread users as philosophers. Yeah, that ain't happening.
"Philosophy is a way of thinking about the world, the universe, and society. It works by asking very basic questions about the nature of human thought, the nature of the universe, and the connections between them. The ideas in philosophy are often general and abstract." I'm sure a lot of these people could agree to this thought process. c:
I mean I guess that's amusing but while we're airing out facts about Philosophy, the proper quote was written about 2,000 years after Socrates death. I actually think Descartes head would've been funnier there as well.
Still. Can't think of any revelation from any philosopher that blew me away and made me think to myself, wow, would not have worked that shit out myself. That one, he basically just said; get a good wife you will be happy, get a bad one, you won't I mean, really, .... No shit Sherlock
I suggest you read Ludwig Wittgenstein or Arthur Schopenhauer but in regards to Socrates, I think that quote is just a clever quip, he's probably better known for the Socratic method or having individuals assert specific claims and then go on to query them about how they arrive at such claims. Questioning ideas and beliefs might on the surface seem rather trivial, but I think for his time it was quite impactful. It was, in part, what probably landed him in prison.
Really? Why? A quick google search, This one stood out, but I kind of worked that out about everyone when I was 7 years old "Nothing is so difficult as not deceiving oneself" Which is just another way of saying denial is the most powerful force in human nature "For a large class of cases - though not for all - in which we employ the word meaning it can be defined thus: the meaning of a word is its use in the language." Which just means context matters; ground breaking stuff "We feel that even if all possible scientific questions be answered, the problems of life have still not been touched at all." So humans don't know everything. Man, so could not have worked that out myself Need I go on?
Nah, you're ok VG. I read your posts and clearly you demonstrate a level of intellect above that of Wittgenstein. I just offered his works as a philosopher, that at times, made me introspect in unique ways when compared to much of classic Western Philosophy.
I'm with VG on this one. I've not really got much interest in reading philosophy but I am into philosophizing. Often I find people who are into reading philosophy have their thoughts limited by it.. Like, they won't consider someone famous to be wrong, so they only think within what all the old, dead philosophers say.
That's fine. I didn't know if you were or not anyways. c: I really just liked the quote. I am not a philosopher in any way but I just thought it got the message across while sounding kind of snazzy.
I dont really like philosophy. Most of it seems pointless to me. Except Nietchze. Nietchze is bae. I like him because a lot of his work challenges the most core values I hold dear and I still find myself agreeing with him
