It gets better. The wife of one of the soldiers in my squad was a social worker who worked with the disabled. She worked with Downs Syndrome kids. Shari was there to perform for the kids. He asked me and my roommate to show up to support his wife and because the Down Syndrome kids would love to see soldiers in uniform. It was an Air Force town, we were a single Army battalion on an Air Force Base.

It took about two hours of planning, but we managed to get the entire battalion to show up. A typical Army battalion consists of about 500 soldiers. We were a small battalion so only had about 300 soldiers, but they all agreed to show up for the kids. It was amazing. The hall was overflowing as we all danced with the kids.

Strangely enough, that soldier was an Apache who grew up on a reservation in Arizona. His wife looked like a witch, she had pure white skin. They were swingers. He was always trying to get me and my fiancé to swing with them, so I asked Shari to make Comanche jokes to mess with his head (Comanche pretty much wiped out the Apache and their dominance in the plains). I think he also played Fu Manchu. That was rather impressive to read about Christopher Lee, always liked him as an actor and definitely didn’t know about the other accomplishments.
