So I just remembered from my post earlier about different cultures and seeing someone from one on Black Friday... the clothes the woman was wearing have a name. She was wearing a burka!

I don't know why I couldn't think of that. I didn't want to look at her much because I think that pisses off people in that culture. I made some eye contact with her hubby. But yea... super weird seeing them here. Anywhere outside of the middle east it must be a little different than usual seeing someone wearing that though. I'm not aware of any other place where women do.



And for some reason, I'm not struggling with boomer being a slur. If it is, I won't have trouble because it's not really part of my vocabulary. Baby boomers. I think the very name has me thinking of 1980s America. I know I know. That's Gen X, not baby boomers! But something in my mind puts those two together.

Weren't baby boomers the ones who had cell phones in limousines then? A naïve question to be sure. blah... am tired.

I'm curious as to where you live, I see a fair amount of women with burkas here. I saw 3 women in burkas at night when it was foggy out a few weekends ago, looked like grim reapers.

 

Without being terribly specific, I live in Ventura county about an hour north of Hollywood.

 

The part where you assumed immigrants in general think homosexuality is a crime (my immigrant mother accepts my homosexuality, so immediately you're 0 for 1) to start. You're assuming immigrants are intolerant. How about prayer 5 times a day being mandatory? What immigrants are doing this? And more importantly, can you provide proof that any immigrant group is pushing to make this mandatory? And lastly, my personal favorite, saying that immigrants shitting in the streets is customary. If that isn't hate, I don't know what is. BTW where I live, we do have a problem with homeless people pooping in the streets. And they're usually native born Americans and not immigrants. But I'm sure you knew that.

Um, what you listed wasn't cultural beliefs. I mentioned immigrants and you equated that to anit gay religious zealots pooping in the streets. Don't drag me into this "im hateful as well" nonsense. Also, if I'm "hateful as well" (your words) then you're admitting what you said was hateful.

Or, they made contacts in another country while going to school and later were offered a job in said country and decided to take it. People immigrate for hundreds of reasons. You're making a bad generalization about all immigrants.

Ok. Then state my opinion back to me.

Yeah, it can be frustrating growing up in a country where your race and culture are not the status quo. That's what I deal with. Do you?

Look, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I'm not that person. This isn't an attack. This is a defense. Weather you intended to or not you said some hurtful things. And I just think you need to be called out on that so you don't continue to say hurtful things. I apologize if I offended you

 

I can't imagine why immigrants would want that. They come here to be Americans, not to remake the US nation into a model of the one they just left. Image is also an interesting term to be using here. Is it for the biblical connotation?

 

Yeah, I know. I was being sarcastic. What you said is more typical of the immigrant experience but other people see it as an assault on the American way of life. I was making a joke that people took as a serious statement.
