    Ugh, Adani

There are something like 400 open cut mines across australia, but the protesters are all adani adani adani because Bob Brown had a road trip that one time

I remember that ABC guy one time inteviewing protesters down in Melbourne asking them where the adani mine actually was. Half of them actually said adani in queensland. Adani is the name of the Indian company. The other half said they were clearing rainforests, the site is on an old cattle station

And it all got downsized anyway because Adani couldnt find investors anywhere in the world to back it

Meanwhile Newmonts mine near Boddington is a hole in the ground 4kms wide

As you can see by the terrain, its not in the desert, its only about 50kms from the coast in WA, in right in the middle of a forest

Lokk it up on Google Maps for a bit of perspective - Boddington Gold Mine

Our largest open cut mine, yet for some reason environuts here are always Adani, Adani, which is like 1/10 th the size. Because they just follow what the media tells them. Its bizarre

Indeed, Suzan. 'Soda stream' is merely offering a better alternative. We don't even need to get a 'Soda stream' bottle (I wouldn't). Just get a more durable bottle. Instead of buying a crapload of disposable ones, wether you reuse them or not. Going with a more durable bottle are the little changes that should become the new standard/norm.

umm yes you do, you need a soda stream bottle to spray your soda stream into. You cant just go sticking any bottle into the fizzy spray. Only a soda stream bottle has the soda stream seal that seals all the fizzy in when the gas gets squirted in.

    Doesn't mean I don't use one. :D

The cola goes much farther when mixing whiskey than cans do.

But tbh, if I collect the cans like I do, and recycle my cans on the spot at the local recycling center, then that's better than using soda stream bottles which you aren't allowed to recycle, probably because they're all shit.

    Change my mind.

I'm not advising soda stream in the first place. But getting a more durable plastic bottle is obviously better than buying disposable ones regularly. There are plenty of alternatives. But esp that part in the advertisement of soda stream where they show how one bottle replaces all those others is good. Confronting. I'm glad this awareness is spread :)
Not using rubbish is better than recycling rubbish. So if there's a good alternative go with it.

If you're storing simply water in a plastic bottle you're a noob anyway. Everybody knows plastic is no good after a year, you get that plastic taste (also soda stream cap lids known to mould) glass bottles or metal canisters is where it's at. I love the metal ones and glass too because it feels like your water is extra cold :) I've had the same 3 long glass bottles of water in my fridge easy since I moved back home and they moved into my house with me now that's like.. 8 years?

Yups, metal or glass is obviously even better. Plastic disintegrates faster, esp disposable plastic so that's one reason not to reuse them for long.
My opinion on cans grows only more negative. They're basically plastic bags with a can around it. So in the instance of beer I avoid cans now. I used to buy a sixpack if id go chill in the park ot something.

like when you fill that metal bottle up with cold water, and you feel your hand go gold.
    the feeling... is... orgasmic.

  16. Wow, how long is your commute?

  17. There's a guy on YooHooTooB who is using plastic soda bottles to hold compressed air. They can hold more than 100 psi (6.89 BAR), so they are well suited for compressed air powered model aircraft. This is because the bottle is really 2 bottles, an inner and an outer structure formed as they were being molded. The interstitial space between them is microns, but it's enough to equal thousands of miniature arched bridges that provide insulation and strength. The plastic for the inner surface is the same sort they use for lining cans only a more durable polymer to fight stretching.

What I wonder is how much volume can be realized with other gases like oxygen, nitros oxide, butane and methane. It's possible to build model rockets that don't produce the noxious, sulfurous clouds of shit when they fly. But then, most are powered by the same black powder recipe used in flintlocks! I've always thought liquid fuel was the way to go, but compressed gas would be much lighter and it only had to provide thrust for 3 to 7 seconds.

Bottles that fucking strong are surely made out of shit that we won't know about for 20+ years when we find it in our blood. Accumulating like urushiol, slowly, over years. I wonder if it will hit before the cancer I will be getting from gobbling Zantac for the last 20 years. Why? Why do I trust drugs? Just because they work? WTF kind of logic is that?

About 5mins because I care for the environment and choose not to work far away so my means of transport don't cause more pollution.

If im going to be accused of living in the boonies is my fault, then literally living on my employment must also be seen in the same regard, so like, so it is pretty much everybody else's fault for living far away from work that they have to take nasty polluting transport you see. ;)

  19. No argument from me, I've spent the last 20 years working primarily from home. But the bottom has dropped out of that market, unless I want to work in the Middle East (and I do not). On the up side, there's no way I'm going to be commuting for as long as I wasn't since I'll be "retirement age" soon enough and some spreadsheet jockey will see me as a liability.

Regardless of this tangent, I'll be paying a bit more attention to the women slogging to work each day, especially the ones who are not eating, watching a show or applying war paint. What ARE those women doing?!?!?!

If I find myself commuting by this point next year, I may start working on a vehicle powered by cooking oil, probably a VW or Pugeot. I have waste oil contacts in local fast food joints, so everyone behind me will be huffing fries all the way to work.
