It's not funny to most people. They get to feel superior since they think they have thick skin since only they laugh. No, he needs to figure out what humor is. 9 out of 10 right wing jokes I hear are like this. It's just a mean and racist statement and the "humor" is the racism.

There are many cultures around the world that lag far behind in human rights. Islamic cultures very much so. Saudi Arabia finally banned slavery in the fairly recent year of 1961. It always existed in Mauritania. Libya brought it back a couple years ago after Gadaffi was murdered. Not to mention child brides.

So it’s baffling to me how so many people think that embracing and spreading Islam is progressive

 

Nobody is arguing against that women have lesser rights in islamic countries or that its a bad thing.

Lots of women in the Muslim lands have rights. It is only in a few American supported regimes like Saudi Arabia that they have less. Incidentally, American women do not have equal rights. The Equal Rights Amendment did not pass in America, because of Republican opposition.

 

Gaddafi was knocked off by the United States. The turmoil in Libya today is a result of American interference in their country. Your claim that Slavery and child brides were conditions that were brought back to Libya is bogus. There were no laws passed in Libya to bring about such conditions. Nonsense. The purpose of the "joke" was to stereotype Islam, in furtherance of his long-standing AltLite Nativist agenda to promote antipathy toward Muslims. The "joke" seems to imply all or most Muslim women lack rights. Is that true? You mention Saudi Arabia. It's definitely true there. Wahhabi Islam is notorious for that. Likewise, Afghanistan. On the other hand, Turkey, Indonesia, Algeria, the UAE--not so much. Besides, as jokes go, it's pretty studpid--elementary school level.

 

But it is progressive, for men. Imagine how the US would be if we just simply adopted Islam. There would be no more arguing with women, about anything.

I'm not sure there are that many people who think that. There are people like me who think it's important to be tolerant of cultural differences; to avoid racial, ethnic, and religious stereotypes; to look for the good as well as the bad in other people; and to make distinctions among individuals. I've had an opportunity to attend services at a local mosque and to get to know a number of Muslims. I also attend Bible study at my Methodist Sunday school and the local Catholic church. There are things I like and don't like about all of them, but overall, I find them all to be worthwhile.

It's a traditional Christian men's group founded in 1990 by Coach Bill McCartney, enjoining men to take back their patriarchal position of leadership in the home. I used to meet with a group of fundamentalist men from the Church of Christ who had been ostracized form their churches because they were divorced and held responsible for not keeping their women in line. So it's possible for you meet your needs for patriarchy in certain Christian communities right here in the U.S.

People ignore the realities of most Muslims and like to nit pick the details that fit their narrative.

What personal experience do you have with Muslims or women in the home? Chances are none. Most Muslims living in Europe treat women with respect. They are mothers, they are sisters, they have a mind. Their role may be to care for a family but we need that role. Oddly it's also the place alt-right men seek for women. Let us the man love and honor you. For that we expect a certain return. So I don't see why they think it's such a zinger to say they like women's rights.

You seem very concerned with women's rights. Why don't you fight for them in America? A lot of right wing men love to discuss Islam yet are anti-feminist MGTOW types. You have more control of your own reality than the Middle East. Just something to keep in mind. Go help a women in your state who needs access to planned parenthood, go help her fight for equal pay.
